Why is everyone complaining about the graphics?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 6:56 pm

There are some major critics out there who are pointing fingers at Fallout 4's graphics and animation. Now if you knew how much of a Fallout fan that I was, you would also understand why I personally take offense to this. I have a total of 3,000 hours into Fallout New Vegas, I also have about 1,200 hours into fallout 3.

Now why did I play Fallout so obsessively? Was it the 10 star, next gen graphics comparable to Battlefield 3 (At the time)? Was it the fluid animation similar to Crysis 2? Did I play the game for the minor details? (Such as heavy breathing after combat, and accumulated sweat that AAA games today typically have.)

The answer is no, Fallout 3/NV did not have any of that. Fallout is about a game where you can do what you want, when you want. Its about venturing out into the wasteland, meeting new faces, and doing your best with your finely tuned character to survive in the harsh environment. Fallout offered incomparable amounts of perks, stats, attributes, and upgrades; This allowed you to play the game your way.

To be frank, I don't want better graphics, in fact, I would prefer that Bethesda would keep the old graphics, and expand upon the massive game world. I would also love to see hundreds of new perks, dozens of new weapons, and thousands of upgrades to keep me involved for another 10k hours. You see, Bethesda cannot afford to do that because there are critics out there that break the developers, critics who have no idea what a good game truly is, and they have no clue how irrelevant graphics are in modern games that can have potentially no limit on detail.

I would rather have another Fallout 3 with expanded content, than another mainstream, walk in a straight line and watch your character do all the action game like Battlefield, Tomb Raider, or the RPG wannabes like Kingdom of Amalar

I just googled "Fallout 4 preview" and "Fallout 4 review" and didn't see a single mention of bad graphics. Where are you seeing these negative comments?

Very few people are complaining. If you're looking at the Steam forums that's full of trolls, video comments? trolls. Hardly seen any graphics comments here.

Let them moan and whine about a non-issue TC, the rest of us will be going in balls deep into this gem.

after watching leaked footage of the game ( in 720p) i will say the system requirements for pc should not be as high as they are, don't get me wrong fallout 4 looks great but its not a huge leap from skyrim quality. mods can always spurce up the game if need be so im not botherd.

I agree. The graphics look great to me. Some people are just impossible to please.

I personally find the graphics to look good. Some people expected more given how hyped this is and how game changing fallout 3 was when it come out.
Some people expect every new game to look better than the last game, even if those games are completely different.
Some people you just can't please and are looking purely at the low points of the game.
Regardless, this game will get heavily criticised due to the hype surrounding it. I'm looking forward to ultra settings on PC though, but I know I will enjoy the game just like you no doubt will as well OP.
I am also not taking those leaked videos too serious, probably just captured horribly as there we hardly any complaints before with the footage Bethesda released.
But in the end, if someone is going to let graphics or animations ruin their fallout experience than they can do that, I will actually be enjoying the game.

Annnnnnnd, ITS NEWS!!!! With hardly anything being put out by Bethesda gaming news has jumped on the comments of people who are saying its bad. What about those who think they look fine? Well, that's boring news to read. If someone can write an article saying one of the most hyped games has [censored] graphics, they will do it.

Without providing any links or spoilers, I myself have seen 100% real leaked 1080p direct feed screenshots of the PS4 version and 100% real leaked 720p footage, albeit compressed, of the XB1 version.

NOTHING I have seen is what I would call bad. In fact, I am impressed with what I have seen. The skyboxes look amazing, as does the lighting.

The environments also look good. Based on what I have seen, much better than Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Skyrim.

I did see the OCCASIONAL bad or lower quality texture here or there for certain objects within the game world (a desk for example). But those textures were few and far between. Fallout 4 looks great.

And if Fallout 4 looks good on console, imagine how it will look on PC, especially with legendary ENB mods.

I've only really seen complaints in article/video comment sections which are usually filled with trolls. I think the gameplay footage looks great and have no problem with graphics or animations. Enemies look great and I'm excited to see that they seem to have better AI

I wouldn't let it bother you. Some people just like to nit-pick and act all billy big [censored] like they know every detail that goes into making a game of this magnitude. My only current concern is that i'm only a click away from walking head first into a major spoiler.

Maybe I'm just a really devoted fan (a solid chance), but holy hell I thought the animations were slick and the world beautiful and thematic.

I don't care if it had Sega Saturn graphics, as long as the gameplay is good.

Well, my willpower is weak, and I watched some of the leaked gameplay footage. My first thought was that it didn't look all that great, but then I stopped and looked at how much was going on in the game. I'd say the graphics look 15% better than Bioshock Infinite, but there's 264% more going on in the game world.

I don't think most people are complaining about graphics.

I think SOME people are complaining about lighting. Apparently furniture and other static objects have no lighting or shadow effects at all. I'm not saying I care about that, but I think that's what most people are complaining about.

Oh, also the animations are atrocious. Even I have to admit that. And looking back at the footage the AI seems pretty bad too, but hopefully this just isn't a good example of it.

The lack of lighting on the leaked footage has lead me to believe that what we saw at E3 was probably PC footage played with a gamepad or something.

That being said, I still think that footage from E3 looked great, and as a PC player (with a gamepad!) I'm super excited to play Fallout 4. :disguise:

Most of the videos are from consoles, I think, right? Might explain the lack of max shadows.
