I used to be like most of you, then I took an arrow to the knee
I hated Pop music and everything about it, the artists, their lifestyle, the music itself (God I thought it was awful) couldn't stop hating. My common rants were similar to yours, that they have no talent and their music is appreciated for no good reason by majority of society and the blind, sheep-like fans that worshipped the likes of Justin Beiber for no good reason.

Then I matured, I went out to clubs, where this 'awful' music is played and my opinion changed. I realised that it's not about talent, or money or fans. It's about fun, some songs in the charts are particularly bad still, but they're fun. Yes... They're not great, technically at least, but they're fun and promote a good atmosphere. I can't imagine going to a club and partying to some Metallica, despite the fact that I worship them. Different music appeals to different people, and just because it might not be your thing, try not to hate, enjoy it for what it is and it'll start to sound a lot better, promise.

Er anyway, people have always hated pop music. I think by its very nature, it's the ubiquity that gets on a lot of people's nerves

I believe it's called Pop music for a reason, it's definitely a majority that like it so I don't think that argument really holds well.

This is rather true and I keep telling my brother this, we listen to similar music but I go to clubs and that that play "normal" music and had to adapt to it in order to enjoy myself, now I bought a few CDs similar to the dance/rap style (Example) they play and find it alright to sit and listen to. Whereas my brother comes in and can't help but go thats pish bla bla...Telling him that there is probably only 1 club that plays his music and at that it's usually always gigs with high entry fews compared to most clubs but nope, he won't change his ways. Guess its to make up for the time he spend listen to Aqua and The Venga Boys

The way the vid is, trying to be feminine but not showing their face.
Also this vid confrim my thoughts.

Kinda annoyed at the dislikes, just because its a dude in a dress. Gender shouldnt have mattered, its someone playing the guitar ffs.

Late edit: Its a woman. I dont want to spread what I know to be misinformation.

Becuase so many people have phones, ipods, and other crap, but dont know how to use headphones. And since pop is so damn popular, I was forced to listen to it for ages on the bus to/from school.

I dont care much about the singers (except lady gaga, I dislike her more than others), its the fans that have most of my hate.
I can agree to this, everyone wanted to listen to pop, and nobody wanted to listen to Vivaldi or Iron Maiden when I was in 6th grade (or later on for that matter).

I've always wondered why people hate Nickelback so much, their songs are catchy and they aren't bad. They're not what I listen to I just don't understand all the [censored] people give them.

I enjoy pop music, but the problem is when they try and market their music as deep and meaningful (ie. Alejandro) or social commentary when it really isn't.

I can appreciate pop as pop, but not when it is trying to maskerade as something weightier.

Maybe just because it doesn't mean anything to you, doesn't mean that it doesn't mean anything to others.
To be fair though I don't really like Lady Gaga, she tries to hard to be 'individual' and it annoys me, but that has nothing to do with her music.

I flicked that on for maybe 5 seconds at the most before switching off, my issue was 1) Male in female clothes 2) Male doing a dance like a female 3) I can't find my headphones

Maybe he couldn't afford clothes and inherited his big sisters dress.

I agree it's weird, it's probably just trolling or to get peoples attention.

When people are in their teens music is simply another vessel for asserting their identity above all else. Most of the time people simply grow out of it. Most of the time.

nickelback svcks because they're wannabe and commerce (they have basically said they're only in it for the money and they disguise themselves as a rock band, imitating 90's grunge artists while sounding more like a mix of pop and country), the vocalist sounds like he's taking a [censored] and their songs are messy

Because most pop singers are false, delusional and pretentious. They sing lyrics about themselves and 90% of it is things they don't know about or don't mean. It's okay to sing a song about a kind of person, but pop singers will take it to another level by claiming to be that kind of person.

When a teenage boy come on stage and sings about love when he hardly understands the concept then that's being false and delusional, and when he claims to be the kind of person he sings about that's being pretentious.

But that's not really the real reason people dislike pop singers so much, anyone can act like a fool and few will bother to pay attention to the person. However it is when the person gains a large audience of followers who will swear that the person is genuine where people will start to really dislike the person. Too many bad 'musicians' who have such inflated egos due to the constant barrage of praise they get who will continue to make and sing bad songs and when called out on their lack of talent said fan group will respond "you're just jelous".

Which of course in turns creates even more rage amongst people who take the time to care. As for myself I try just to ignore pop singers unless people I know have a similar taste in music as I do tell me about some good pop singers. There are always some good apples and some bad apples when you have millions of apples laying around.

Like when leona lewis sang hurt. I dont watch x factor, it may have been a good cover. But I highly doubt that song has any meaning to her, unlike Cash/Reznor.

1) Yeah coz I want to be famous to bring a doofus
2) I'm pissed that they get money whereas other more deserving have to go without
3) I wouldn't want a girl who was after me for money or fame
4) ....... Um
5) ....... Not sure what happened
6) They're pretty much all fake yes.

Now can someone explain to me what the [censored] this is about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UePtoxDhJSw&ob=av3e. I have been forced to listem to this crap at work and I really would like to know why people like it?

It's shallow, egotistical, fake, boring, sounds attrocious (imo opinion of course), there is so little music actually present ........ and he's got a face I'd like to punch.

Yet over 100 million people have watched it.

In terms of it being popular and on the radio because such music is good is wrong. Beethoven isn't on the radio unless you listen to the 1 dedicated classical station there is whereas the [censored] above is on dozens. Unless of course you are going to try and attempt to tell me the [censored] that wants to be a bumble bee is more talented that Beethoven.

Do people no longer aspire to make great music or is it all about making a fast buck with the cheapest [censored] they can get away with selling?

I don't dislike pop because it's popular to dislike it, I dislike it because I really don't like the "limp" music it contains. I dislike hip hop because the culture it promotes is wrong and yes I do believe such music brainashes people. There is more gun crime and knife crime nowadys since black gangsta music has been on the airwaves than there was before it. People are quick to blame movies and games for criminal acts but rap has as much if not more important impact because it is a cultural thing

As for my previous post where I asked about whether Katy Perry was famous for her looks or talent I'm glad to see no one disagree's

To claim that popularity means that a majority of people like it is to miss the essential nature of the music industry, which is discriminatory towards a certain age group and type of person (that is, the age and type which tend to spend the most money on music) and completely ignores pretty much everyone else. It's certainly true that a lot of people do like pop music, but if you got a representative sample of the country and asked them what they thought of (for example) Lady Gaga, I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of people weren't fans of hers. Hell, I wouldn't even be surprised if the majority of people didn't even know who she was.

Come to think of it, I'm British, over 20 and a regular internet user. So the only contact I've had with Justin Bieber is via his haters. If it wasn't for them, I'd probably know nothing about him other than that he was some sort of singer or something.

Guess you've never been on twitter then, pretty sure majority of it's users are big fans of popular music.
Not taking anything away from your point, music is meant to be diverse, but chart music sells the most, therefore it's pretty clear that it's most popular.

We should petition all radio stations to play songs like Crazy train on a regular basis.

I don't expect there to be metal on the radio all the time (as much as I would like that) I do however want there to be decent music advertised.

Most people from my experience don't even look for other music. They just listen to what they are spoon fed by the radios and assume it's the best music gets
