Why Isn't the Shrouded Cowl Fixed Yet?

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 11:26 am

Seriously, this glitch/bug has been present since day 1 of Skyrim's release, and Bethesda STILL hasn't fixed it? For those of you who don't know, the masked version of the Dark Brotherhood's Shrouded Cowl does not display the mask on male character models, and only females display it correctly, like Astrid when you first meet her. So male characters only get a hood.

I'm guessing appearance bugs are rather low on their list, I'm still waiting to hear about the Necromage Steady Hand slow mo glitch.

Yes! This may sound silly but that has been one thing that has bugged me in Skyrim since day one! I just don't like the way the hood looks without the cowl.

Well, considering that there is a "Shrouded Cowl Maskless" item on a shelf, I'm pretty sure it is a bug. Besides, why would the mask only show up on a female models but not males, if not for a bug?

Its not a bug, they couldn't stop beards from clipping through the mask due to how they were implemented. So it works on females but not on mails.

Why couldn't they just remove the beard when you equip the item? Like how your character goes bald if they put a hood on. And what if your character doesn't even have a beard or just has a small one that wouldn't clip through?

Because of HOW beards are implemented. They aren't done the same way as hair. You're hair actually occupies the headgear slot while the engine can't actually determine if you have a beard or how big the beard is. So only female men/mer can have the masked cowl.

Many mer don't have beards so for roleplaying purposes neither do mine, the fact that beards were the excuse is inexcusable. You can make my character shatter his body into a half man bat but you can't remove HIS NORDIC BEARD? WHAT IS THIS?

Do beards clip through closed face helms or the Nightingale Hood? If not, it seems that you could do the same stuff for the Shrouded Cowl as you would these kinds of items.

It could be done so that equipping it removes any beard or facial hair, if any. How come other things like the nightingale cowl manage to remove the beard?

i think that during this thread, the "it doesn't work because the beard clips through" argument has been debunked. Like others have said, if that was the case, why does virtually every other mask, helmet, and cowl work just fine but not the shrouded one. You have all of the closed face helmets, you have the nightingale mask and cowl, you have all the priest masks, and yet the shrouded one doesn't work, i dont see how couldn't be a bug.

I agree this bug should be fixed in the new patch because without the face mask the hood seams out of place

People tend to throw the "Your wrong" moniker around without even looking for proof, then once evidence is provided they disappear without an apology.

Signed, Also they need to resolve the issues with the Thieves Guild and Linwe Hoods making the character BALD when they are a Vampire.

Doesn't that happen no matter what? Or do they stay bald after you take them off?

That's not a viable answer, as the Nightingale Hood is basically the same thing, and my beard doesn't clip through it's cowl...

Because closed face helms actually remove your entire head why do you think the muzzle on a beast race doesn't clip through? Those helmets actually remove your head. If the shrouded cowl completely obscured your face then like the nightingale hood it'd work fine, but it doesn't your actual eyes remain visible.

As I said before due to how beards were implemented the game engine can't simply remove them like it does the hair on the top of you're head. I've actually looked into the PC mods that "fix" this bug and they have beard clipping issues.

If that's the case, they should have made only one version of the Shrouded Cowl, which had different models depending on gender (like the Forsworn Helmet). Also, while this may be the accurate explanation, I still say it should be fixed. What we have currently is a jury-rigged solution because they couldn't figure it out the first time. That's fine. I've jury-rigged lots of things in my life to make them work well enough to be functional when I until I got the job done proper. But then I went back and got the job done proper.
