why would pc gamers buy hearthfire?

Post » Thu Aug 30, 2012 7:11 am

We have the creation kit. Building a house in the creation kit really isn't a complex task. Is there any reason to buy this as a pc gamer at all? I really can't think of anything aside from adoption...

Well, the DLC can be used as base for mods that expand upon it's idea. Assuming it does it in a way that has benefits over the mods already out there.

And also not every PC player is a modder. I consider myself an advanced mod user, but i've no clue how to build anything with the CK, though i am quite handy with the rest of it.

Maybe it is easier for them. I am no pc player (maybe next year, if I can afford a better computer), so I don't really know a good reason.
But what ToJKa said is logical.

It seems like a good modding resource. A lot more "build your own" type mods could spring up, maybe ranging to entire citys, which would have been very difficult/immersion breaking otherwise.
As for the content itself... thats just a side order.

Hmm I can see this. Do you remember the mod for Fallout that let you build a city anywhere? I forget what it was called, but now that you mention it I can really see something like that popping up again.

Because Bethesda have the skills, opportunity and tools to create things modders can't do, or would have to spend a lot of time doing.
I daresay Hearthfire will add numerous things that existing mods don't.

I would, because I still haven't figured the CK out, nor have I found a house mod that I enjoy.
And I believe Hearthfire is going to add some more little things.

Real Time Settler i believe, though i never used it myself. And "city" and "anywhere", that's already two things better than Hearthfire :lmao:

Well my point was that even someone that has never even opened the creation kit can learn how to build a basic house anywhere in the world within an hour or so just by watching tutorials and playing with the kit. An entire city can be made in weeks by a single person. I really think the "base" of this dlc needs to add something (aside from adoption) that isn't currently possible with the creation kit. Otherwise there is nothing to build on it with.

I'll buy it so that any upcoming mods that use this as a base will still work. And if you are a member of the pc super race then you should be able to throw away €4.99.

Modders can already build whole new cities. Even without this dlc , if this is a sign for things to come i think they will lose fans quicker than can say fusrohdah

Besides it is probably going to be mandatory for any further dlc

I can build my own houses as I have good experience with the CK, but I'll buy Hearthfire anyway.
It's probabably less bugged and more stable than most mods and they will proably add all sorts of small things.

Just look at Dawnguard, it added all sorts of stuff, not just the Vampire Lord and the questline. Dawnguard was well worth my money.

Maybe they released this to break the exclusive deal with the Xbox so that the next big expansion will be on all 3 at the same time

Well wait until more details are announced, like everyone said there's probably loads of little surprises included in Hearthfire. Also the trophies, although maybe a mod already exists for that.

Mainly to show your support for Bethesda.

I'm skeptical about buying it. I can probably spend an hour or two watching CK tutorials and 3 hours applying what I learned. Problem is I only play Skyrim 5-8 hours a week, I don't think I have the time. I'm not much of a modder, but I do have some experience modifying skins on my own. It is possible to build a small shack/house with console commands too, only difficulty is decorating it afterwards.

To be honest to everyone, I hate kids. I can barely stand those brats in Skyrim except for one in Old Hroldan and the twins who sell Dwemer parts. I don't think I can tolerate a kid in my basemant. Based on the trailer, the kids seem shallow like wives and followers. You just give them allowance and allow them to play outside, what else?

One thing that the modding community can never achieve is to make new characters and quest with good voice acting. Very few audio mods out there. If hearthfire contains at least a few new quest, 5 dollars isn't much.

I might get Hearthfire as soon as I watch some gameplays on X360 or if Beth gives more info.

And if you are a member of the pc super race then you should be able to throw away €4.99.

Reminds me of EA's BF3 forums

Yeah, and then modders will be able to use the new things that Hearthfire adds.

I'm going to. Why?

Because I don't like building my own. Because I don't like the visions that other people have for their house mods (let's be clear here, people: smelters don't belong inside a domestic dwelling). Because this will... just be easier to deal with.

I'm going to get it also because I want to see how they implement all that stuff (which means, unfortunately, trying to decipher the compiled scripts... again).

There are plenty of good reasons.

- many 3d models we have seen in the trailer are not in the CK as reusable assets
- adoption
- new NPC animations
- new NPC dialogue options [the ability to hire a steward, play with your kids etc] and new voice acting lines
- new carriage options

At the time of this writing there are no house mods able to offer all of the above, no matter how many LOLZ THERES A MOD FOR THIS the trolls throw at you.

Most modders can't spend a budget paying "good" voice actors, to create a mod that won't earn them a cent. There are still plenty of good voice actors who work for free though.

It is probably made as a replacement for mods for us console users who want to be creative.
Also Hearthfire will add plenty of stuff you can't Mod for only 400 mp/cash equivelent

- Adoption.
Which is kinda a [censored] you to the people that play as races besides the Humans. Because the only kids models that are in the game are Nords and Redguards.

It's fantastic that Hearthfire will be for everyone because console users can't use mods. House mods are always one of the largest categories of mods created because it's such a desired addition to Bethesda games. All kinds of houses are available from a simple tent with a bedroll to a palace. Of all the ones I've tried, there have been a couple that were what I might have created but none were exactly what I'd create if I took the time to try. I'd just rather play so I use the wonderful modder's creations. Why wouldn't I use Bethesda's too? I'm hoping it's very customizable. I don't want animal heads on the walls...I want tapestries. If I can do that, I'll be thrilled and if I can't, well, it's only $5 and who knows, maybe I'll do the CK tutorials and learn to make my own mods. :tes:

True, however heartfire will generate an standard for building houses in game, including building stages who few bother with, yes moders will expand this perhaps the ability to build anywhere.
I also guess that more features than adoptions are added, probably better handling of wifes/ companions to make them compatible.
