Will you buy another Obsidian/Bethesda game?

Post » Sun Mar 20, 2011 11:14 am

Bethesda only when ES5 comes out other than that I am pretty much done. This is amazing how much i feel ripped off the worse part is I actually liked FV, I probley would be the biggest fan of it. If it didn't insist on stealing two straight weekends in a row due to DLC saves glitches.

It depends on how they manage New Vegas' patch. I'm playing the Asian version, and we haven't had an update at all. I'll give it time, say a month or 2. If by 2011 we don't have a patch for Asian versions I'm boycotting Beth/Obsidian products for good.

Never pre order. Never 1st week. Only after reviewers and other gamers have their say.

Its pointless bothering with reviewers. They boot it up and give it 9 out of 10 then read the back of the box. There done!
They NEVER point out the bugs or problems. Listen to the poor mugs who bought the game every time and you won't go far wrong.

I second that opinion - The reviewers and review websites depend on the corporate dollars for support, so their reviews are most likely biased.

My personal rules are similar to the person a few slots above:

1) NEVER Pre-order
2) Wait 2-4 weeks for the 1-3 patches to be released (They start working on the 1st patch before release, as they already know about a lot of the issues).
3) Read the forums and feedback from the people who make the early purchases (there are always people that believe the hype).
4) Determine if the patches clean up the game to justify spending the money.

the thing that upsets me the most is the game was fine when i first got it. no problems. then i got the update and now it svcks. It crashes when trying to load certain zones, and my vats is useless. i noticed that even if i tap the vats key when there are no targets around the game freezes.

I love RPG and oblivion and fallout are the best ones for the xbox, so i would buy another game from Bethesda, however i agree. i will not buy it during launch. i will wait a while for the game to get stable.

I did notice that some of the bugs are engine bugs. since FO uses the same engine as oblivion if you play all three games you will find many similar bugs.

I would not mind the bugs at all, if i had gotten an advanced copy and was a beta tester. but i dont like paying $60 to be a beta tester

I would buy another but not on release day. But who knows, they may learn a lesson from this. And the people who may care alot about the quality of their product dont always have the say about anything when it comes to quality and making a buck. If this game had no bugs it would be a masterpiece for its time as far as video games go, it is totally immersive. I do think if they use the same game engine again, i would be totally hesitant but ultimately curious and would break down and play it anyways. I hope that wont happen and that they supe the engine up at least and make some much needed improvements as it seems pretty outdated to me, nothing has really changed since morrowind in my opinion but we are all still buying it because it still succeeds in allowing such engaging gameplay for more hours per game than ive put into any other titles by 3 or 4 times at least. Bethesda makes games that are huge and exciting and I hope they do a better job of improving and refining the Fallout universe. Its definitely disappointing that the game didnt improve much from Fallout 3 and that the engine seems exactly the same since morrowind and even more disappointing is the way Bethesda chose to do business in regards to the state of the game on release day, but in spite of all of this, I still have high hopes for their future projects...but I wont be pre-ordering any of them.

Since Obsidian/Bethesda isn't saying anything (or doing anything as far as I can tell) about all the glitches and severe problems that a majority of players are having with Fallout:New Vegas

Yes, I will buy another Obsidian game. For 20 PLN (5 euro), 2 years after the date of release it. Obsidian are total bunglers and buying their games before thousands of patches is just a suicide.

Fallout 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, Kotor 2, Alpha Control, New Vegas - it's enough to don't trust them. Maybe they games are really good, but technically they're worst things I've ever seen.

Sorry for my english.

If you want sophistication in gaming, try Blizzard. Until then, have fun buying broken games that don't get updated, because people like you will give them money whether or not they finish or refine their products. The incentive to produce a good game is profit, just like any other trade. If you can make profit selling junk, then your going to do it.

Are you kidding me? I bought World of Warcraft the day it came out it was terrible. For almost a week, I couldn't even connect to the game I had bought, I couldn't play it. And even after that the lag and bugs were ridiculous 'til a month or two after launch. You are comparing a game that has been constantly patched for five years to one that has yet to receive any major patches.

I think i'll probably try renting a game for a few days first and check the forums and see if the signs are good or bad before i decide whether to pay full price for it.
Ignore the ridiculously over-hyped reviews and see what the paying public are saying.

Prerelease such game is not a good idea at all. If you want to be an alpha-tester for a full game price, then you are welcome to Bethesda forums, otherwise you must wait at least a couple of months.

I love that people are blaming obsidian.. like bethesda has some fantastic track record or something.. Nobody seems to remember the release date bugs of morrowind, oblivion or F3... If you don't want major bugs don't buy games until the game of the year edition. Anyhoo.. of course I'll buy the games. As long as it's a game I want to buy. I love games. And with all games come glitches, bugs, workarounds and patches. I have very few pc games that don't have patches.. and most of those are pretty old. At least they can patch console games now. Nintendo through Ps2 if a game was glitched you had to find a workaround.. with old cartridge games you were lucky if you could get the game to boot up the first time you put it in.. I had a floppy disc game for my apple IIe that had an ungoddly amount of discs.. everytime you made a decision or wanted to do something you had to put in a different disc.. It was called knights of legend because the story was originally planned to get you to be a knight.. but the first game only took you to squire.. They never made the rest of the games. So yeah.. even though there are bugs present in games. Games are a thousand times better than what they used to be. And games weren't any cheaper. Atari games cost 30-40 bucks.. Snes games cost 60-70 bucks.

I know that they're working on it, but an update on the status of the patch would be nice. The last update they gave us was a week and a half ago.

You're talking about a game that was not anticipated to have the break out success that it did. At least during the time that the servers were getting slammed what Blizz employee's were around were working around the clock to make it all work.

I'm not even quite sure they're trying to fix this for Xbox and if they are they sure aren't showing any signs of it. I'm honestly at a loss as to why this game was released like this? Did anybody even test it? As a gamer, we would much rather have a release date pushed back to ensure quality then have to deal with weeks of headaches after launch. Not mention, Obsidian is banking on everybody having internet. Archaic as it may seem, there are some people who don't plug their Xbox's into the internet. How are these people supposed to even play?

Yes I will. The patch fixed the only issue I was having which was the hanging requiring restart. Since then it's been fine and I love the game. I love all their games.

I will more then likely, but it really depends on one thing. If I have recently upgraded my PC or not. I have been pretty lucky in the bug issue department (a few minor things, one inventory issue, and a crash after jackpot in a casino was my huge issue). I'm a pretty firm believer that I am getting along without so many issues because I have what could have been considered a pretty damn good rig when FO3 hit the streets. Now it's antiquated beyond belief.

I had FO3 on the PS3 and that was not a pleasant experience for a while with freezing and other stuff, So I went to PC.

Hell, I will still probably buy release day anyway, if I am interested in the game and have the cash.

I wanna say no. But I know I'll cave in and buy it anyway. I'll even preorder it.
But you can bet I won't open the shrink wrap until I've read PLAYER reviews. Not after this fiasco. And if the game turns out to be crap like this, I'll sell the preorder codes on ebay to someone who wants to suffer through a game that is FUBAR, return the unopened game for full price AND make some money off it in the end.

Not on the day it's released anymore. I will wait now on any game that comes out to see if it works or not. This blew any trust I have in game companys producing the best product for our money. The Gaming world cannot give Fallout New Vegas rave reviews while it rips apart our machines with bugs. In fact they ruined the rush effect the gaming world loves in my opinion. Wonderful game if it will work right. Which so far it has not. I wont be so quick to part with money again for any game that may come out in the future. I feel llike a total idiot for this mistake.

No news on what the problems are or what we can expect for a fix or even when.
I expect the best for paying more for a Xbox 360 game instead of worrying if a PC can handle the game I purchace. AS of now the disk gathers dust on my shelf instead of being enjoyed. I feel cheated out of my earnings payed for this product and am at the point of no longer caring if they repair the game or not but want my funds returned in full for a defective product that will not function as discribed.

I may at some point repurchace this game but only after it has been out more than a year and completely playable. But it wont be for 60 dollers if I do forgive and spend money for Fall New Vegas.

I guess that really depends on how long it takes to release the patch and how effective it is . Seeing how eager they were to take our money I think we deserve an explanation and a speedy solution so far we have a lame excuse , "oh a small number of people have reported some problem" an obvious miss truth if not an out and out lie and a half hearted " we are working on the problem and we will fix it soon" . So what I would like to know is what is soon? , 2 weeks?, 2 months? ,what ? . Soon is a reletive term I could say that soon we may see a maned space flight to mars or a moon base or some other rediculous statement . The very LEAST they could do is keep the public posted on their progress and so far they couldent even be bothered to do that .I realive I sound like a sour puss but I expect to get a reliabe product when I purchase something and failing that a solution or replacement or refund if its defective .Honestly someone should lose thier job over this
