I wish to NOT use Steam

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 6:13 pm

Neither have I or the 100 people on my friends list. People need to complain about something, and since the game is superb they gotta find something else. And it's usually stupid [censored] like they bring up.

It's usually the same idiots who have no idea how drm or software works.

Just because you haven't had a problem doesn't mean its not out there. I wish me and mine and my kids friends and were as lucky as you. Two of the folks with big problems were IT guys.I really don't know what the relative issue is but non idiots do have problems also. I'm glad and jealous its works so perfectly for you and yours.

1. No, it crash and misbehave.
2. No, it NEVER offered me a choise where to install Skyrim
3. And what, genius, do you think happens when i restart setup.exe on the DVD?
4. You read it.
5. No you cannot. The setting is LOCKED.
6. I rather have a working game that i could play. If there is a problem i have a DVD that i can reinstall from instead of Steam using up my monthly 4G bandwitdh quota.
7. You don't risk loosing your account because of criminals breaking into steam and stealing your credentials? Great, we're in fantasy land!!
8. So i'm an idiot because the GUI is [censored] and changing the password is hard? Do you want to have a forum vote on what you just said?
9. Again...
10. too pointless to comment on.

People on forums... "Oh, it works for me".

1) That's your pc then bro. Sorry but it's stable enough for the 30,000,000+ other users.
2) You choose your directory in settings I believe.
3) what?
4) huh?
5) dude, it's in settings
6) it's 2012, get real internet. your caps are no ones problems but yours.
7) ok listen closely to what i write for 8
8) it's a pain in the ass because Valve does not have your password, it is encrypted from even them and that is why you cannot just request a new one. Because they don't know it.
9) ok we done here?
10) yeah we done.

Useless for you. But for business folks and people who travel for a living, it is a damn fine feature to have.

That it is for them, obviously not for him ( or me for that matter but my daughter likes it) I'm reading he would gladly trade ALL those featues just to stick the disk in and play. It seems such alittle thing to ask, really.

All these steps to got through. I have to admit I'm pretty nervous about insatlation even now. I have a disk so I have to follw special instructions or it won't install form the disk. special steps to kepp it offline etc.. There are answers to every problem but Its vexing we have to go through the hoops and rely on steams good will and functioning correctly and servers not being clogged etc for a non internet single player game. Hopefully my own instal will go more eeasily Maybe my PC being delayed arriving is a blessing in diguise.

Still this will be the first TES game since Redguard I haven't played on release day.

I'd advice you to stay offline and not read anything until you run into trouble. If you're ok - breathe out. If not, you have to deal with a bunch of people who think you're an idiot for pointing out problems.

I remember Redguard. I ran the installer, then fiddled around with the i-something audio driver (separate on the disk) and i were playing it...

You can't play without Steam.

Not true -> the Launcher pops Steam but "TESV.exe" does not so it is possible to play without Steam, just go into the game directory and shortcut "TESV.exe" there is not much need to use the Launcher anyway as we have no real mods and you do not alter your game options much past finding your sweet spot for performance to quality.

I would suggest backing this Exe up though as I would not put it past Steam to correct this.

You can't play without Steam.

That's what you think. You don't even need a crack to play without steam. You just need steam to install the game.

Alot of fans out there not so happy that required Steam to activate and play, that is just plain stupid. Now most of them cant even update the game, good job Bethesda!

If only internet piracy didn't exist :(

This is why we cant have nice things

It's all about having a choice, for me. I've been around since before steam and I used to hate it! However it's not that bad actually, for online games. Keyword being "ONLINE" If I buy a pc game on DVD I expect to be able to play it with out having an inernet connection. Having to go online to register a single player game is just STUPID! And that's why I'm not buying it!

Then where do you think the long list of problems comes from?

Yeah, it really [censored] considering some people like me, who live outside of town, have [censored] bandwidth caps. Seriously, $55.00 a month for 500 kilobyte/sec download speed and a 5.1 gig monthly bandwidth cap, with 5 cents per megabyte over the cap. Ridiculous.

Tears of joy perhaps !! -- You do realize that Skyrim was already up and running for them within an hour of the Aussies reaching the Steam unlock time -- so about 20 hours before most of us could get it to even attempt to activate - they had the game cracked and working without the need to have STEAM running in the background or even installed on their Systems
Meanwhile the Xbox 360 version had been out for about 2 weeks.

I think steam sounds kind of dumb too. We shouldn't need internet to play a single player rpg. >.>
You don't. You only need it to verify the game after the initial install. After than you can play without an internet connection.

Yeah but the point is: you still NEED an Internet connection, which is stupid for a single player game!

STEAM. I'm still here on some...company support forum and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the STEAM bit.

Some person above whose daughter is ten - good for her. She most likely downloads apps to her cellphone too. Personally I care about what I stick in this machine - which does not include gaming hubs. PLESE GIB US MONAYS is not what I enjoy looking at. Perhaps I should do that ol' micropayment grinder thing instead, it's much the same.

So I'm here.

I'm still not enjoying the game. It's been a couple of hours.

I repeat that I don't download this off the interwebs, I'm sitting here with a physical copy of the game and can't play because STEAM "plese gib us monays" game hub isn't allowing me to finish my installation. STEAM STEAM STEAM

*

Still no Bethesda logo in sight. Perhaps it's STEAM I'm about to play.

As for stopping piracy...met someone today who gave me a quick review as I was exiting the store with the pre-ordered game in hand. He'd been playing it on xbox for a week.

The only thing that game hubs is an enemy of is privacy.

Not to mention (but to mention, again) that if you only bought the digital version through steam, you get no freaking manual. Currently reading what I can of the manual from someone's nice 360 manual that they put up screenshots of on kotaku...Huh, so *that's* what that symbol on the compass means! /sigh

I don't like Steam either, and since the game has been pirated over 60,000 times already its its first day of launch id say its an inefective DRM. why can't these damn compaines give us an opition to accept Steam or not, i bet they wold make more money that way Steam alienates our troops overseas, because they idea of super fast internet is only 56k, and what about some ppl who have no internet conection at all?. Hell Steam can't even protect it's self from getting hacked. And yet you never hear the game dev's speak up when lots of ppl start to complain about Steam and thier servers always being down.

Oh my [censored] God... I buy a game - and then download it from the net for 4 more hours? Whatever happened to game actually being in the disc(s) ffs? Good God I hate this [censored].

Gonna start unoriginally as a Nord, by the way. Thorir Iron-Hand. He would've been Dark-Heart, but then he had been related to Edla. Actually just found after inventing the name that Oblivion had this Dark-Heart, too. :(

If an internet connection is bad for one game its bad for all games.
