Worst book you've ever read?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 5:50 am

I remember reading the majority of the first Twilight book and I'd have to say it was the worst book I've ever read. The plot is "I love Edward and I'll do anything to be with him". The characters were incredibly shallow and they were just names to me. It also seemed like the author used a thesaurus after completing the book and replaced a few adjectives to try and make her writing look better.

So, what is the worst book you've ever read?

I have read all four Twilight books. They are the worst books I've ever read. Why did I read them? The same reason people stop to stare at a horrific car accident.

Atlas Shrugged. Ayn Rand's books are little more than glorified propaganda pamphlets.

I couldn't bare turning the pages on the first book. I was thinking of getting the second one, but I couldn't stand the glittery vampires playing baseball. I heard they get worse as they go on, because the author breaks all the rules of vampires at the end. Not to mention Bella is a shell of character, hey atleast she's clumsy.

I don't read that much anymore, I think Eragon was the worst of the (admittedly few) books I've read.

Lol. It's really the only bad book I've read thus far in my short life.

It depends, it's usually boring, unless you find that book that is just so horrible that it becomes fun.
I can't remember any bad books, I know I've read some, but the titles weren't worth remembering.

Never read a bad book (I don't even read books that often), but finding an extremely poorly written story is just a mere two minutes of creepypasta browsing away. It's like American Idol for writers.

Only recently have I begun reading fiction for personal enjoyment. Before that I only read books that served me a practical purpose.

Anyway I've been smart enough to stick to what I know is good so far, so I can't bring anything to mind at the moment that I would label as outstandingly bad...

Alice in Wonderland. The Infernal City was sort of... meh.

Most books I've read have been pretty decent.

Bella Swan is quite possibly the most unlikable protagonist I've ever come across. Kristen Stewart plays her well - I hate movie Bella as much as I hate book Bella. Not sure if that was what she intended...

Fair point. But in my defense, I have actually read all four books, which is about 3.999 more books than most Twilight bashers have read.

Well I saw M.I.T.H (hamburger helpers book) once. It was horrible. But its more of a comic so.

Game of thrones. I was suprised all the people talking about how good it was, but it felt like fanfiction. Its like Twilight, only worse becuase there are plenty of people who go on about how bad twilight is.

Only some I had to read for school. Let's see- Nietzsche and Kant maybe. I flung Tess of the D'Urbervilles across the room after finishing it. That was more hating what happened to the characters than hating the book.

Can you elaborate on this? As a huge ASoIaF fan, I'm genuinely curious as to why you think this. I consider it to be one of the best fantasy series of all time.

I haven't really read any bad books and I have read many. My least favourite would probably be one of the Star Wars books, but I still wouldn't really consider it bad.

Oh, I have to correct myself. I actually own some Books about the Blizzard Universes (Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft).
None of them were really good, I had the most fun with the Diablo books, most were mediocre. And most or parts the books are bad

I had the most fun with the Diablo books...

An extract from the most recent Diablo book.

They came in swarms over the hills. We braced ourselves for the onslaught. There was not a man among us that wasn't ready to give his life to our cause.

The enemy crashed upon our front lines like a tsunami breaking on the gates of Hell.

I just found it dull and hated the characters. Then the author started describing 2 siblings [censored] and I felt myself dying inside. Its been a while since I read it, but I quit shortly after that part. Reading that was just painful. You could have just implied they had six, but no. The author needed to start describing what the kid was seeing them do.

I felt shame that the library would know I read that book. I would rather have mein kampf in my checkout history.
