Would you give up ponies?

HELL NO! I love sleeping and in my house it's rare with a two year old running around so no, I would never give it up.

No, what would you do? Everyone else is sleeping.

Actually I wonder... Even if we could give up sleep, would we be able to resist it? An example is our diets. For the longest time, certain nutrients are needed, so our body makes us crave them. Now we have these things in no short supply and it's hard to resist them (some failing) because our body still tells us to have more even though we don't need more. Sleep is similar. Even sometimes when having gotten plenty of sleep, your body will tell you to sleep when you don't really need it because it's programmed to at some times. Even without the need, that "craving" for sleep wouldn't just go away just like the craving for sugar and salt don't go away just because you've already had enough to meet your needs.

No, it may sound stupid but I seem to come up with the best drawings when I'm so tired I struggle to stay awake. If I didn't have to sleep, that would mean I wouldn't feel exhausted, and no drawings I'm proud of.

Also, when I wake up I have solutions to problems from the day before, so it's useful.

If you where given the opportunity to not have to sleep as in the human body did not require sleep and you could go on forever without becoming tired would you take it? I know I would, I hate sleeping. It is such a waste of time, It is time I could spend doing other things. Life would be so much longer without the need to sleep.

If you're in security you don't have to worry about making this choice :P . I enjoy sleep it helps me recharge my batteries and allows me to enter dreamland where I can escape from the BS of the real world----now unless Dreamland becomes Nightmare World for awhile then I'll pass on sleep until my good dreams come back.

That's what video games, books, photography (don't need sunshine for all photos) and TV + other "solo-hobbies" are for.

Not to mention thanks to the Internet, you can always chat with someone awake on the other side of the world.

Yes, if you were to sleep the average which is I believe 8 hours then you are effectively wasting 1/3 of your life. Why wouldn't you choose to live 33% more

I would. Like others have said we'd have so much more time if we didn't sleep.

I'd love to give up sleep, then I could enjoy the outside more.

I'm trying to take up video game mapping, and it would be so much better if I could work all night, while I do my house work and stuff in the evening and afternoon and go to school in the morning.

If I didn't have to sleep, I might actualy be going somewhere in my video game modding.

That depends. If I could go to sleep if I chose to(to distance stress and the like) then yes, I would gladly give up the need to sleep. I would never give up the ability to sleep however.

If we no longer needed to sleep we would not be the same thing we are now. It would drastically change our way of thinking and our society. If it was just me then hell yeah. If the negatives of no sleep were removed then I would love to not need to sleep. Not like I still cannot lay down and close my eyes and learn to meditate.

Well if this where the natural thing there would be stuff to do for 24 hours. There would always be stuff open and things moving.
Oh. I thought it was just me. I thought I was special.

If everyone gives up sleep then I guess it wouldn't be so bad.

A couple of bad things come to mind.

If no one had to sleep then that would mean more time you would inevitably end up spending working. No reason to have to go home to rest so your boss will make you work 16+ hours a day.

If no one had to sleep than there would be no beds, and alot of fun things can happen in beds

But if it was just me that didn't have to sleep then sure I would take it.

I like going to bed. I only get about six hours sleep a night so its not like I spend a huge amount of time there.

Yes. Like someone already said, sleep wastes a lot of time. I often find myself "making time" by taking it away from sleeping.

Like right now.

I easily spend almost twice as much time sleeping. Right now I have 14-15 hour days. So that's 9-10 hours of sleep a night. I love sleep, but I would like to keep myself awake sometimes when I feel fit without the drowsiness.

I was talking in an anology. Also as said in the cyborg thread cyborgs aren't immortals. By not needing sleep your productivity and capabilities skyrocket to the point it is like you lifted a limitation. The advantage of cyborgs are that you can fix real disabilities and solve diseases (or at least nullify them)

It very well could make the world a better place from a standard of living perspective, and you a better person or at least a more versed person. Imagine what you could achieve, invent, cure, fix, solve if you had another 25% of your time. Now imagine if everyone did. It would make the world a better place
I don't think it would make the world a better place. What about all the bad people? Everything would just equal out and be the same.

But that is still 25% of your life....

No. I love sleeping, as it helps keep my mind off of things and helps relieve stress.. which I get a lot.
