Would you give up ponies?

If you where given the opportunity to not have to sleep as in the human body did not require sleep and you could go on forever without becoming tired would you take it? I know I would, I hate sleeping. It is such a waste of time, It is time I could spend doing other things. Life would be so much longer without the need to sleep.

No. I really like the pleasing feeling of sleep. Plus remaining waking at all hours puts a huge amount of stress on your mind. It's not worth the lack of "tiredness".

But I like this question a lot.

Yep. I've heard Krishnamurti didn't sleep- he just rested his body with no loss of consciousness. Not sure that's true though.

Well since humans require sleep we stress when sleep deprived. But if we were wired to live without it, then there would be no stress.

But no, I wouldn't give up sleep. I sleep 10 hours a night and it feels great to sleep. Plus, it cures boredom for me. Plus, I love pleasant dreams. I get sleep paralysis sometimes, but not very often.

Oh don't get me wrong I love dreams, In my idea we would still be able to sleep if we wanted to. (Probably for the specific reason of dreaming) And you got it right I meant there would be no stress.

Interesting.
If I could at certain times turn off the sleep receptor in my brain when I deemed necessary it would be nice. Without stimulants.

Absolutely.

The average person spends something like 20-25 years sleeping during their lifetime. Such a waste.

I'd like sleep to be more effective, or the ability to go longer without needing it. Like sleeping a full night (eight hours) and then staying up for the next three days.

I always waste so much time from the inability to get to sleep at a decent time, and the inability to wake up when I want, or need to.

I wouldn't, because without sleep, one cannot enter REM and dream. Dreams, though most are not remembered, are the mind's way of coping with stress and other issues. Dreaming is used to make sense of reality. Plus, my bed is really soft and there would be no point to having a bed if I couldn't sleep.

This.

I do enjoy sleeping, don't get me wrong...but that's because we're wired to enjoy it, since we get tired. If we didn't have to sleep, and didn't need REM, oh yes, I'd be up all the time. I think even if we didn't need sleep to survive per se, you'd still get enjoyment from lying down and relaxing now and then if you felt like it. Muscles would still get sore/stiff and overworked at times, after all. And blankets when you're cold would still be cozy, even if you aren't sleeping.

Considering I have chronic insomnia, I've effectively done that already and I hate it. I wish I could sleep. :(

Dunno.

If I could choose to sleep or take a sleeping pill to sleep then I'd take it. But if I had to stay up for the rest of my life, probably not worth it. Imagine not having anything to do and just having to wait until the next day comes around.

I'd imagine that work and school hours would be doubled.

Anf for that reason I would say no.

Sleeping's not a waste of time, since you almost don't age while you sleep.

Also, sleeping is fun, especially if you know what it's like to live without it.

Assuming that our brain wouldn't suffer from the millions of other things that happen when we don't sleep, apart from tiredness that is, yes. The only reason you want to sleep if because your brain and body needs to rest. Remove the need to rest in every single way, and you will never want to sleep.

Man, that would be a fast moving society then. Poeple would be overworked since there's no reason to close the business for night.

Ive had insomnia and a week was the longest ive gone without sleep, and i can tell you, you need to rest your mind, being awake that long seriously is a quick trip to the funny farm. It is seriously someone i never want to go through again, unless they want to lock up , because your temper is one of the first things to go.

If I never got tired? Sure.

I already try and sleep as little as I can, since I find it to just be a waste of time.
