[REL] Wrye Bash

Except that neither MOM nor mTES4 are set up to recognize Skyrim.

That is unless something has changed recently. That is why we await the MOM successor.

... perhaps one could call them Oblivion images and then point all the directory paths to the Skyrim folders ... don't think anyone has done or even tried that yet.

I don't think tricking the app into using Skyrim that way would be a good idea.

Having some confusion on installing. I'm trying to install 295-5 using the installer (with plans to copy the files of the SVN over the top of that install) and have some questions. After several months away from Skyrim, today I've installed the game fresh, gathered the new mods I want, along with BOSS and Wrye Bash, and I find that the installer is a bit different than I remember it last time.

Last time I installed Wrye Bash using the installer, I left all of the options on the initial screen at default, as it filled in all of the necessary information for me and located my Skyrim install folder itself. This time it does not seem to recognize anything.

At the initial screen of the installer I saw that Install to extra locations was UN-checked. I let the installer go and completed the install leaving that as it was (UN-checked). Unfortunately it did not install properly, or at least I don't think it did. I did not see a Python folder on my main C: drive this time like all the times in the past when I've installed. I also did not see a Mopy folder, or anything else I'd normally associate with a successful Wrye Bash install in my Skyrim folder.

In my Installed Programs I saw that Wrye Bash was there, so I un-installed that and restarted my computer. After the restart, I went back in to reinstall Wrye Bash again. This time I checked Install to extra locations and was presented with the following options:

Extra Location #1: - (default UN-checked)
Wrye Bash [Standalone] - (default checked)
Wrye Bash [Python] - (default UN-checked)
... the folder box underneath is empty...

Extra Location #2: - (default UN-checked)
Wrye Bash [Standalone] - (default checked)
Wrye Bash [Python] - (default UN-checked)
... the folder box underneath is empty...

Which ones do I need to check, and do I need to manually navigate to my Skyrim directory? Or is the installer set up to automatically find it?

Never mind. Sorry, I had not yet ran Skyrim for the first time, which is why nothing was detected. After running Skyrim once, the folder is auto-detected. DOH!

Straton hope I catch you in time - While at this stage, dont select Standalone, its useless for Skyrim right now.

Choose Python to install, and the Python Wrye Bash. For all the python installation 'parts' just let the defaults happen .. next next etc

After it has successfully installed, have a look at the first post ^^, under Development, open the first spoiler to get instructions on installing the svn version (without it you will run into problems trying to launch BOSS and the new load ordering for Skyrim)

After you have the svn installed, check out post no.10 above.

And then, have a look in your skyrim data folder and delete the archiveinvalidationinvalidated.bsa - You will not need it for Skyrim.

Hope all goes well

Edit: One more tip; After the above go to your windows Start, All Programs, Wrye Bash - Then right click on Wrye Bash - Skyrim and choose send to desktop (if you did not select Standalone as part of your installation then this should be the correct icon) .. Now you can run it from your desktop icon.

I'm still having some problems, sadly.

On the initial install screen, my Skyrim folder is being properly detected. And Wrye Bash [Standalone] was checked by default.

So I also checked Skyrim and Wrye Bash [Python] and clicked Next.

The next screen tells me:

Standalone Version: Congratulations! All prerequisites detected!

But, it also says that the installer could not find the following required components (all of which have a default check next to them):

Python 2.7.2
wxPython 2.8.12.1-unicode
Python Comtypes 0.6.2
PyWin32 216

Are all of these components not included in the installer?

If I click Next, will it attempt to download and install them for me?

Ack! I had the forum reply window open for a while as I typed out my last message, alt3rn1ty, and you must have replied while I was doing the same.

So do NOT check Skyrim then? Let it install with all of the defaults?

Also, archiveinvalidationinvalidated.bsa not needed? What handles that now then?

Well, going to try again following you instructions. And thank you. :)

Yes it will install the Python components aswell, have a read of my previous post again.

Edit: Yes you need to check Skyrim, Python, and Python Wrye Bash - Uncheck standalone.

Sorry for taking up your time here with inane questions, but I'm trying to go slow and careful this time so I don't screw it up again. On the very first screen, I don't have a check-box for just Python, what I see are the following 3 check-boxes:
Skyrim
Wrye Bash [Standalone]
Wrye Bash [Python]

I'm thinking I need to check Skyrim, UN-check Wrye Bash [Standalone] and check Wrye Bash [Python] , is that right? Will the next step have me cownload the Python components, or are they a part of the installer itself?

Again, sorry for bugging you with all of these questions. I hope I'm almost done. :)

Thank you for those links. Yes, I guess I do have some catching up to do. Why did Bethesda change a system that we had all gotten used to anyway?

You are correct. Skyrim should be checked, Wrye Bash [Standalone] unchecked and Wrye Bash [Python] should be checked. Once you hit next Python will auto-download and start installers automatically.

Grrr! I'm getting the following when trying to start Wrye Bash...

C:\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Mopy\Wrye Bash Launcher.pyw is not a valid Win32 application.

What did I do wrong?

Also, if I don't use BAIN, do I need to worry about the INI tweak issues mentioned in post 10?

And lastly, regarding the Leveled Lists and the Bashed Patch, do I need to delete my Bashed Patch and rebuild regardless, even if I'm not having an issue? Obviously I've not ran anything yet, so I'm not sure if there will be a problem for me.

I'd try rebooting. It sounds like the registry hasn't yet picked up that .pyw is a Python app. If that doesn't get it, rerun the Bash installer and make sure it grabs the Python dependencies.

Even if you do use BAIN you may not need to worry about post #10 just yet. So far I haven't run into anything that would get messed up by that. Just keep it in mind for later.

Yes, I'd delete the bashed patch while you're thinking about it. That way you won't be pulling a head scratcher later wondering why it's not working :)

Okay, I restarted my computer and tried again, but got the same error.

Next, I uninstalled Wrye Bash and then re-installed it, and then copied the SVN files over the top of that install, selecting yes to replacing files.

Then I restarted my computer.

Once the reboot had finished, I tried again. Sadly, same error.

What should I try next?

Try clicking on the wryebash debug bat file and see if that fixes it. It has fixed it for one user.

I'll try that next.

Just finished uninstalling Bash once again, deleting the Mopy folder as well, as the uninstaller never seems to remove it.

Then, restarted computer.

After the reboot, I ran CCleaner to hopefully clear up any registry errors.

Then, restarted computer again.

After the reboot, I re-installed Bash and then copied over the SVN files.

This time windows tells me:

Windows can't open this file:

File: Wrye Bash Launcher.pyw

Time to try the debug.

Tried one more thing before I resorted to the debug.

Tried to start bash again, and this time when I was told that Windows could not open the file, I directed it to the python.exe. It worked and Bash finally started.

Although I wonder, should I have python.exe open it, or pythonw.exe?

Also, is Bash supposed to have a DOS box open behind it while it is running?

Should direct that to the pythonw.exe file instead. Though it won't hurt anything for the DOS box to be back there either.

My brother had the same thing for some weird reason. We also tried re-installing everything etc, and nothing worked. It's just an annoynce though really as you can still run the program fine but you need to tell it to open with python every time (the checkbox for always opening with python remains greyed out). If you find a solution, do post - I'm sure he'd be happy to find out and I can't really help him much as I can only do so when I go to visit.

Okay, redirected to pythonw.exe instead. Thanks Arthmoor.

Peste, I have the option for always opening the file with the specified program. Maybe it depends on the version of Windows we run? I'm running 64-bit Pro.

So is he. Anyway, I won't spam the thread about it as it is working for him in a manageable way, and next time I go visit I'll have another look at it and see if I can sort it out. Glad you got it all working. :)

One final question and then I'll get out of everyone's hair. ;)

If I want to manually arrange my load order, do I even really need BOSS? We can still arrange load order with Bash, correct? If so, how do we arrange the load order with Bash? I see the new tab/field/header/whatever called "Load Order" but cannot see a place to change an esp's load order number?
