17 Year Old Going To Midnight Release

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 5:55 pm

I've been waiting for TES:V since the day Oblivion came out, and I've decided to go to the midnight release for it at my local gamestop.

This is my first midnight release, but I have a problem. Curfew here is 11pm for those who are under 18. I happen to be 17, old enough to purchase Skyrim, but not old enough to meet to have no curfew.

If I am just outside gamestop with other people, or inside(I don't know how these work, are you in our outside the store?), can I get in trouble with the law?

I'm nervous. :obliviongate:

I don't think so - not as long as your business is commercial. If you were just loitering at the park, then I can see you getting taken to the station.

Hey, I'm 17 too! I would doubt they care... but hey, bring your old man along or something. That's what I'm doing! Great father-son bonding time. =D

You can probably pass off as 18 very easily.

Well you could always resist arrest or go to jail and pick up your game after you served your time in jail. But your gaming skill might decrease and so will your stamina. sorry but that is what happens. You should be fine by the way :)

There is no way in hell either of my parents would come haha.

Well the place where my local gamestop is at is a local strip mall with segway mall "cops" and police frequently hang out there because a lot of teens walk around high or just cause trouble.

Only reason I'm sketching.

It would be me and like 4 other friends and whoever else shows up. We are all 17.

Nobody will care that you're breaking "curfew." A cop will only ever arrest someone for being out past a curfew if they're doing something else suspicious. I assume you're in the US though, so you will need a photo ID to buy M rated games at most stores.

EDIT: Mall Cops will only kick you off of the property if you're making trouble. Real cops will more than likely leave you alone, they don't have magic eyes that tell them your age.

I tracked your IP and have reported you to the proper authorities. They will be in full watch mode.

This. Unless you live in some kind of totalitarian hellhole, curfews aren't generally going to be actively enforced. They're just in place to give police the official authority to send you home if they think you're doing something suspicious but can't prove it. Waiting in line, especially with a bunch of other people, isn't going to raise any eyebrows.

I never thought of going to a midnight release and calling the police for mass crowds of curfew breakers.

Better be careful! They don't have Skyrim in jail.
Court appearance probably won't happen 'till Monday.
That means by the time you are released, your reserved copy of the game will have been sold to someone else!

And of course I am being totally sincere in the above.

If you can go into a store, try to buy booze, and just be shooed out by the clerk, I think you can get a video game without getting in trouble.

I was actually picked up by a cop once when I was a teenager for being out past curfew, lol. But it was in a small town, & I was up to no good...

If you and your friends aren't acting sketchy, then I'm sure no one will notice :spotted owl:

Edit: just make sure there aren't any chickens around to see you....

17 year old wouldn't go to jail. He'd be returned to the custody of his parents.

and unless the cops are actively patrolling the gamestop, you've got nothing to worry about. You gotta act like a Dark Brotherhood operative and stick to the shadows.

If they do catch you, just calmly and politely tell the officer that you will not be taken alive, and book it as fast as you can outta there.

I like to go around to midnight releases to tip the cops off to doings like yours.

No but seriously, no one is going to say anything.
