Do you enjoy any 'bad' or 'poorly recieved' games?

Counter-Strike: Condition Zero is the first that comes to mind.

They've got good metacritic scores, but I've only heard a couple of other people who whole-heartedly and genuinely enjoyed the first two Fable games. Everyone on gaming forums seems to hate them.

That said, I have an everburning hatred for Fable 3.

And I absolutely loved Dungeon Lords when I played through it. (It's Metacritic score is 45)

ITT: Games that got good reviews

No?

Mirror's Edge wasn't very well reviewed IIRC but I adore it.
81 / 100

Assassin's Creed, I think, is another example of that - where it needed a sequel to really iron out and refine some of the gameplay concepts.
81 / 100

Metro 2033 and the Brothers in Arms series come to my mind. The got average reviews but I love all four of the those games.I'm sure there are others that I can't think of right now.
Metro 2033: 81 / 100
Brothers in Arms Road To Hill 30: 88.7 / 100
Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood: 84 / 100
Brothers in Arms Hells Highway: 79 / 100

Yup. like i keep saying Dragon Age 2 or Final Fantasy XIII aren't nearly as bad as the internets would have you believe.
Dragon Age 2: 78.92 / 100
Final Fantasy XIII: 83 / 100

Yes alot of games which have gotten mediocre or bad ratings have turned out quite enjoyable. I've noticed alot of times when reviews mention its the same old same old without bringing anything new to the table that its a good sign i will like the game. Some of the ones which have not rated well but give me great joy are:

Serious Sam 3
Painkiller expansions
Hellgate London
Singularity
Wolfenstein- the latest one done by Raven Software
Might And Magic 7
Bulletstorm
Divinity II Ego Draconis
The Haunted, Hells Reach
Supreme Commander 2
Elven Legacy
Dragon Age 2
Crysis 2- may have gotten great reviews but not from the so called hardcoe fans stuck in yesterday mode
Serious Sam 3: 77 / 100
Hellgate London: 71 / 100
Singularity: 76 / 100
Bulletstorm: 82 / 100
Divinity II Ego Draconis: 72 / 100
Supreme Commander 2: 77 / 100
Crysis 2: 86.79 / 100

Oblivion and FO3 were about as badly-received as you can get in some quarters at least, but I loved both of them! I suspect that's not quite what you were getting at though. Offhand... dunno, really. I think most games that I can think of have been in a similar situation where some groups of people hated them and others rated them highly; probably the closest is DA2, which I confess is something I've also complained about a lot, but I actually really quite enjoyed the bits that didn't annoy me!
Oblivion: 94 / 100
Fallout 3: 91 / 100

I actually liked Deus Ex: Invisible War quite a bit, even if I do tend to run into a number of series fans who feel differently about it. I actually thought there was a lot of compelling storytelling going on there. It's been some time since I've played it, but there were some memorable characters that I actually cared about as the game went on.

Party pooper! I just remember it getting loads of 50/100 reviews when it came out. I picked it up cheap, without really listening to the talk.

:thumbs up: Exorince. Thanks for that refreshment. But wait...

Are you going to get on my case because Condition Zero got a 65? Considering the 88s of 1.6 and Source, I'd say CZ was poorly reviewed.

I only played the free weekend for Brink, but despite the poor reviews it's probably the best musical score, aesthetics, bright color scheme, art style, and setting in a long time. I would prefer a game with aesthetics like this over something like Battlefield 3 anyday.

Yea, Nexus was amazing. I think I have my old disc around here. As a kid it was a might over my head, but now in retrospective I realize how awesome it was. Hope for a sequel. http://www.games-plant.com/nexus2/

That's why I said "in some quarters". I suspect it would be a pretty empty thread if we relied solely on games that got universally terrible reviews, because they'd most likely be terrible...

Alpha protocol. Gameplay reminds me of mass effect one, only choices actually matter. Yet ME1 got lots of praise, AP got lots of hate.
Because almost everything other than the story and its choices was implemented poorly. No ability to jump except at specific jump points, invisible walls everywhere. The hacking system was pretty annoying. Combat wasn't very satisfying, and that pistol ability that allows you to freeze time and line up a bunch of shots was incredibly overpowered. The stealth option is thrown out the window way too often (worse than Deus Ex HR's boss fights) and the AI cheats in that it can find you even when it can't possibly know where you are.

The dialogue system was kinda interesting, with it running on a timer so you have to choose fast. The problem with that was that most dialogue choices consisted of just 1-4 words, and so many times I had no idea what option I wanted to pick or what my character would say with each option.

I still enjoyed it a bit, but I don't see myself replaying it. Which is a shame for a game with actual meaningful choices.

80 / 100
Invisible War is still received badly by most Deus Ex fans, regardless of its review score. IMO only if you don't consider it a Deus Ex game at all, and you play it on a console (the PC port is bad all sorts of reasons) it can be considered a decent game.

I'm struggling to play it right now, I want to complete it for the story. I will finish it this time and never look back. :P

Pretty much this. Most reviews of Mirror's Edge I saw said it was terrible.

Final Fantasy XIII: 83 / 100

I'm not talking about the reviews, i'm talking about the "BioWare/Square-Enix is dead to me!" internets. There's a big difference

On certain boards those that didn't hate those games got flamed :lmao:

Exorince everyone knows that anything below 90 is awful.

And everyone also knows that everything above 90 is gotten with bribes :teehee:

Only ones I can think of would be New Vegas' DLCs, namely Dead Money and Lonesome Road. In fact, I find them to be the best in the pack, and find Old World Blues, the most well-received, to be grossly overrated.

I liked Fable and loved Fable 2, despite the hate people put on Fable. I really didn't like 3 though. And I also like FarCry 2 for some reason.

It means love.
And most of the games I've played were not big hits. Infinite Undiscovery is a good example. No one liked that game, but I was very into it.

I'm another one that appreciated Alpha Protocol despite its flaws. It was a pretty ambitious game. I also didn't think that DA2 was the disaster that many think of it as. It was disappointing, yes, but I think there's a lot of hyperbole flying around the subject in most gaming forums.
