Do you fast travel?

I was just wondering if there is anyone out there that Never fast travels. It would take a real long time to do all the quests.

In quests I usually fast travel to the nearest city and go from there.

The only fast travel feature that I use is my horse. Otherwise it's on-foot from point A to point B. Doing so allows (among a few other things):

1. Gain skills experience with road creatures/bandits/etc.
2. See easter eggs or things that you may have missed on your previous trip
3. Extends the life of your character and thus the game
4. Helps with role-playing

Not against fast-traveling, I just prefer not to utilize it.

I agree!

i dont usually use a horse but i say in one area and do the quests and raid the dungeons there. For instance i have started my game in Markarth and i now roam between Falkreach and that city. When i have a quest that requires me to go to Windhelm for instance ill do it later.

Ive fast travelled a lot with my previous character but i find it (for most of the arguments you said) more satisfying to not use fast travel because you see the world a lot better and see things you would normally miss out on.

It makes the game more real as well, and imo you are connected with it a lot more...

Never have. It takes too much of the adventure out of what I encounter during my travels.

Never, ever, fast travel. There's just too much to see & find, and in any case, I think of the travelling as part of the gameplay, not as a barrier to gameplay.

I fast travel mainly because many of the locations are impossible to reach and it would take hours of tedious climbing/walking with nothing to do but press forward and taking detours because the way you chose doesn't really lead to where you need to go. Once I discover a location I fast travel there. In fact if I'm aiming to go somewhere I don't really walk somewhere in a straight line. I hit every nearby spot and unlock it for fast travelling so I can go back there later. I don't want to spend my time walking when I can be fighting and upgrading my character and advancing through the story. If you walk everywhere you have too much time on your hands. With fast travel this game can easily last 100 hours. Without it, yeah.... add 300 hours of just walking.

Extends life how? If he fast travels he ages faster or something? That's ridiculous.

What's the difference between yes and rarely in this poll? I mean rarely is also yes. Maybe it should be changed to "Always", "Most of the time", "Sometimes", "Rarely" and "Never"

Only circumstance where I would fast travel is, for example, if the game crashes after a long walk somewhere. Say Ive just walked from Solitude to Riften and the game crashes outside the city gates with no saves in between. In those cases I could fast travel, unless something cool happened on the way that I want to do again. The same might also apply for "silly deaths" in special circumstances. That being said, it still hasnt happened once. I just think its funnier to walk.

omfg he means that one: your character will see more, thus have more experience, thus having more "life knowlige"(from an rp point of view). second: it extends your gameplay.

unless you are planning to play something else, fast travel and be done with skyrim fast.
or explore, walk, climb and appreciate the game...

I fast travel every single time I go somewhere, or just travel to the nearest location I can get to. And, if after traveling I arrive during the day (while not in a city for trading) I will wait until night time. Prefer most of my game outside of cities to be sneaking at night.

I run or ride a horse most of the time. I also use carriages, augmented by my patented 'imaginary carriage' system: run or ride to the closest non-carriage town and roleplay that 1. they do have a carriage or 2. that I have talked somebody with a cart into giving me a ride. Then I fast travel.

Depends on the time of day. I get around two hours a day to play (work and kids :verymad: ) At the start of my session I'll mostly walk everywhere towards the end I might want to get somthing finished (i.e hand in a quest) before I turn off so I'll fast travel then.

On a side note, I also use fast travel to get my horse back or get my companion back instantly.

I was being sarcastic, but whatever. So you're saying I don't appreciate the game if I fast travel. That's a bold statement. Kind of elitist if you ask me. I think anyone should enjoy the game as he/she sees fit. Your opinion on whether you think I'm enjoying it means squat. For me, climbing the same mountain 5 times is a waste of time. From rp-ing standpoint sure, I dig that. Not everyone has 1000 hours to put in a game though.

I feel like you have to since the game was designed with that in mind. Quests usually force you to go all around the map, there are few "local" quests.

I try to avoid it but after 150h and 4 characters, it's hard not to use it.

I'd like to see it done better though. Distance traveled should have an influence in your decision. I mean, clearing a quest near Riften and then selling loot in Solitude should have a cost of some sort. For example:

1) I'd like to see something like the early Fallout games had, where you'd see your progress on the map (it wasn't instantaneous) and you'd have a chance of random encounters (like you'd have if you were actually walking places);

2) Or they could keep it this way but justify it better in the world, like having a teleportation spell where perks would allow you to travel more distance at once, or a shout where more words would increase distance (with the cooldown avoiding you to keep using it over and over again).

Yes...same here exactly. Or if I lose my horse I will fast travel so that it returns immediately to my side. I think fast travel detracts from the RP experience greatly. Then, the game becomes a shopping list.
