Skyrim won the IAA for Outstanding Achievement in Story at the IAA's last night.

Lol. Wow.

It's about what's popular, I guess. Unless they considered the whole series and it's lore, it just seem like it was given it by default. I can't think of another game that had a remembered story (not like CoD was going to win. Batman? didn't play that game so I have no idea)

Better than any of the other competition.

Also, you're the one who deemed Skyrim as the "best game ever" a few days back, then started bashing it.

...and Braveheart won 5 academy awards (including best picture), awards obviously have nothing to do with actual quality so why bother?

It won best in story? Hmmm.

Maybe it was the best out of what they had to choose from. Idk.

The main quest storyline was well written IMO. So were the Daedric quests and some other side quests.

I wonder if they what they are looking at though. The main story line is interesting but there are also many, many side stories in the game that are also quite interesting. If they are taking it for the sum total of all the writing in Skyrim I have to go with their decision as very few games offer up this much content.

I can see it being entirely justified to win. I will admit that Arkham City is right up there too, though.

I don't see anything wrong with the Main Quest's narrative, its actually pretty sound in my opinion.

Its the Guilds, Radiant, and Side quests that deserved a little more investment.

On Braveheart :

How can anyone not like this movie? There is no hope for humanity on the internet, jfc.

Skyrim is a great game. I can understand some of the critiques it gets, but it's got the most involving story I've seen in a game this year. As a newbie to TES, Skyrim's story was the one reason why I started learning about TES lore. Skyrim has a great story, and in addition to that it has a huge and wonderful backstory and series behind it.

And I have nothing nice to say about Mel Gibson, except for the fact that Braveheart was a kick bottom flick! I mean come on, there is blood splattering on the camera lens, some nudity, a few wars, some family drama, some d bags who deserve what they get, and in the end Mel Gibson fights Jet Li ...oh wait, that's a different movie...

I really enjoyed the Companions quests. Haven't played the Mages' College, DB or Thieves' Guild quests.

I also enjoyed them, but was speaking more generally about all of the Guilds. Come to think of it, they all had pretty nice stories but were akin to watching that 1 hour movie when you just knew it would have been better as a full length film. College of Winterhold probably exemplifies this the most.

Truth be told, I'm pretty sure most of the guilds in Skyrim were starting points for TES VI when it comes to story. Where Skyrim was 200 years past Oblivion, I think that TES VI will be pretty close to this timeline.

Depending on what DLC holds I guess.

The Wicther series,Hell the Witcher 2's prologue is more interesting than any of the content in Skyrim not to mention it actually has a story.

Skyrim is awesome. But I don't think it's the best story out recently. I think there is probabely a rpg with a better story about.
But a worse game could have won, so good for Skyrim. :)

Braveheart is a great movie though.

Predictable, boring characters, historically inaccurate to the point where even nazi history-writing can be considered closer to reality...

"They may take our lives...but they may never take our...FREEDOM" - Oh shut up and die! I felt disgusted throughout the entire film and only wished that the english would triumph and humiliate William Wallace...

You mean the Witcher??it is a game for advlts thank god it did not have the painfully awkward Mass Effect 2 love scenes and that is a very small aspect of the game.

Witcher? That story is not nearly as good as Skyrim, neither is Witcher 2 which I'm pretty sure was created when the entire game company was drunk.

Yes, I played Witcher 1 and 2. Sold the last one back to Gamestop.
