Do you like the appearance if the Imperial Legion?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 1:21 am

Actually it's their old look from Morrowind. I think it was a bit overdone this time. Perhaps some kind of look straddling Roman and Saxon.
I know it is similar to the MW look, i have played the game quite a bit. However, it is still a "new" look. Their armor is no longer a combination of a medivel plate armor and a roman uniform, and it have become more colorful.

I liked the old look more. They are supposed to be the strong guys with heavy armors.

It's hard to go wrong with Roman armor, when done right it just looks delicious.

They look appropriately Roman. Dorky, but all the better to cut their heads off.

It looked that way in Morrowind. The Legion outside of Cyrodiil always has Roman-esque armour, whereas within Cyrodiil each city has its own guards as we clearly see in TES: IV.

Nope their armor is too skimpy (especially for such a cool cimate) (they dont have pants). Also the imperial officers helmits (whatever the mohawk is called) is just a dull boring metal (http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2511).

They give me a strange 'default a-hole ambitious white man imperialist' look about them. Imperial imperialists, yes. Lol

I mean does it suprise you that they've got the whole 'red = bad' and 'blue = good' thing going on? Not to say that there IS a good or evil in their conflict here, but it IS kind of drilled into our brain from playing games since we were kids. 'Blue bad guys' were uncommon, just like 'red good guys.'

Why are the Dremora red and black? Same reason every goth fashion sense loves those colors. We associate them with hell, fire, blood, and evil. Silly, because they're just colors, but it's true.

It doens't help when the red dudes are the ones who submitted to the Thalmor (who again, are not 'evil,' but elitist and apparently a bigger threat) and the blue dudes are blowhard rebels that the common man would relate with for being an underdog.

I don't really think the Imperials are portrayed as being at all the bad guys in Skyrim. Their point of view can be defended just as well as the Stormcloaks' point of view.

I like the Roman look. Never have understood why some people are so allergic to any fantasy look that bears a relation to the real world. That sort of thinking leads to everything looking like it belongs in World of Warcraft.

I like the look alot, and i love the fact that one of the leading 'human' races isnt based off medieval English structure like most rpgs, movies, etc. Not that that is 'bad', but its more refreshing than the usual. As for originality, theres only so far you can stretch originality in a fantasy-medieval setting. Elves and other races is fine, but i like having some connection to 'our world'.

That's a Greek Corinthian-style helmet, not something the Roman soldiers wore, and the Imperials are modeled after the Romans, not the Greeks.

As far as the amount of clothing goes, it's a fair point, but vast stretches of Skyrim are not that cold, and not portrayed as such - thankfully. When I first heard about the game I was excited, but simultaneously afraid that the whole place would look like a monotonous, snowy hell. Thankfull there is a lot of diversity of climate.

Very well said. I'm all for fantasy that is more grounded in its roots in medieval and ancient mythology, legend and folklore.

Most of them fit, but I've noticed a few forts right along mayor roads, where I just can't see a reason for letting them fall apart, hell a few of those forts actually have the road going right through them. You'd think that the Empire, Stormcloacks, respective Jarls would at least care about that.

I would think yes, but than again I am from a culture that avoids uncertainties like the plague. Nords are a more wild bunch, they care little for the walls, as can be seen wen looking at Whiterun. The Empire made sure the roads and forts were maintained, just look at how they looked in Morrowind. Now that the Empire is in decline all the forts go down with them, I like this notion.

Only Oblivion was weird. The scale was too small for the capital of the Empire, but the roads were also small and the forts all inhabitat by bandits. It made little sense for the capital province. Budget and console power was most likely the reason why it wasn't bigger and why no legions marched through the land. This is why going back to a backwater place was a good idea.
