Not really. I've never been a fan of Ancient Rome esque armour and I'm the same with Oblivion's spartan/full plate/chainmail attire.
They just don't give the appearence of an individual, just a legion. Which I guess is what it's designed for, except from protection.

I like the stormcloak apparel more. Which appears weak but just feels more personalised and powerful. Showing inner strength.

yh. I liked them in Morrowind as well. I like the Roman Empire inspiration to them. It looks cool. I felt they lost some of this in Oblivion.

That and the influence from the later western & southern European nations as seen in the steel, silver & ebony armours

They also have the East Empire Company which is later Britain sounding like the East Indian Company. Some of the ships in Oblivion looks like galleons which again was predominantly countries like Italy, Spain, France & Britain.

Nords I see different as having the older Germanic style Norse or Templar feel to them
& Bretons I see as being more Celtic in appearance with more cloak & trousers as opposed to full on & extravagant armour sets
Redguards I see more Sahara Africa (Arabic style North Africa across to Mali style West Africa)

I like it as the four human races are nicely made removed and unique from one another.

I like their look. The light armor shield looks excellent, though its the rarer of the two types. I would however have preferred to have some arm & leg wrappings as it looks silly to be in the frozen north with exposed limbs.

Indeed, they do not look very well equipped to put down a rebellion in a place like Skyrim, though I suppose you could argue the defense was an impromptu affair. Like dike Rumsfeld said "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jPgljRvzQw." :nono:

I find them a bit to ''Roman'' for my taste. All the references and ranks makes it to obvious and I would really like them to have a more unique identity.

For a race that conquered their surrounding neighbors, built structures, roads, applied a somewhat civilized law system and spread other aspects of their culture I think theres nothing else Imperials could have been based upon.

I preferred oblivions the most. Especially the plumed helmets. I think they might have taken the Roman thing a bit too far. To be honest oblivions plate armour was closer to the mw armour than the skyrim is. I think it waters down the fact skyrim is fantasy. It is now a lot more close to the real world than oblivion or morrowind. I wouldn't mind having a roman armour type in the game, but I prefer the oblivion imperial armour.

I preferred the Oblivion plate armor. It was more original. As much as I love history, I think the Roman Empire and its equipment has been the model for just too many fantasy empires by now. I would like to see something different for a change.

That's a Greek Corinthian-style helmet, not something the Roman soldiers wore, and the Imperials are modeled after the Romans, not the Greeks.

As far as the amount of clothing goes, it's a fair point, but vast stretches of Skyrim are not that cold, and not portrayed as such - thankfully. When I first heard about the game I was excited, but simultaneously afraid that the whole place would look like a monotonous, snowy hell. Thankfull there is a lot of diversity of climate.
Yeah, I was wondering why they had that style of helmet. One thing I did notice about it though was that that kind of helmet is completely closed. All parts of the helmet join together over the face. In real life they are more open. A plumed imperial captain helmet would look more roman. Perhaps the alternate helmet is a sort of reference to the plumed greek style helmets in oblivion.

I like it. The Roman-esque Imperials has been in since Redguard and makes them stand out from the others. It's like not liking the Nords because they are too "Viking" or "Germanic" because they had the same cookie-cutter medieval LOTR plate as everyone else in Oblivion.

Love it. Just wish there were cold-weather options for those unlucky bastards that have to patrol the Northern areas of Skyrim in skirts after I take it over for the Empire. I love the look of the Penitus Occulatus chestpiece, but that skirt just irks me when i'm in the North. I've seen a lot of amazing mods that remedy this by adding new Legion armors, but sadly my graphics card is getting old and would likely explode if it were introduced to Skyrim.

Hopefully we'll get some new Legion/Stormcloak armors in a dlc(I imagine i'll get my wish if one of the expansions deal with the Thalmor.). The new variations of the Veteran Ranger armors in New Vegas' Lonesome Road were a very happy surprise.

This kind of Helmet was worn by the romans. It's called ``Italo-Corintian`` helmet.

It says greek bronze helmet, but it probably was worn by Italians to some extent. However, that helmet will not have been used in battle, it would have been for ceremonial use or by someone who isn't participating in the fighting. Bronze is a weak metal, the helmet is also large and cumbersome with very small eye holes. The traditional greek war helmets look like those on this website. http://www.hellenic-art.com/armour/helmets.htm The problem is we always say greek helmets, when in reality the helmets were slightly different in all the greek states. Whereas a roman plumed would look more like this http://www.knightsedge.com/p-774-roman-helmet-red-plume.aspx.

So, a simple question: Do you like the appearance of the Imperial Legion?

Personally I like their new look.

They die the same, wearing that junk of an armor, or a dress :)

I like their "new" appearance especially when compared to their Oblivion counterpart. Though I wish the Legion had some Japanese flavor to it; the Legion IS supposed to be heavily influenced by the Akaviri who are basically Feudal Japanese on 'roids.

Only other thing I wish is that the Legionaires in Skyrim were more appropraitly kitted. Skyrim is balls freezing cold in most places, and probably chilly in all the rest, and they're running around with their legs and arms mostly exposed. Making armour sets that include long-sleeved shirts, trousers, or some sort of appropriate underlayer would be greatly welcomed. Especially since not everyone in the Legion has the benifit of being a Nord or Khajiit.

Perhaps they would annoy you less if you stopped getting caught searching every lady's underwear drawer in the province for "gold". :P

I do like the Empire's Legion. I liked Caesar's Legion too.

very satisfying killing Stormcloaks and just hearing in my head, "Die, rebel scum!" from another favorite Empire of mine.
