Do you still watch "kid" shows?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 8:55 am

I still watch scooby doo. One of my favorite movies is On Zombie Island. The new movies that are being made just don't have the same feel.

I'm also enjoying The Amazing World of Gumball and Adventure time.

Oh, and I still watch power rangers. The new ones are kind of lame compared to the original 7 seasons that had the same continuity.

...Don't judge me.

I did watch The Sarah Jane Adventures, mostly out of nostalgia.

No choice, kids; the older two rule the telly in the morning, and the little fella gets to watch what he wants the rest of the day. I can cope with the pre-school programmes, and just about stand stuff like Batman of the future and Yu Gi Oh, but whoever came up with Ultimate Muscle has my undying hatred. I get my revenge by giving the older boys the choice of watching Winx club with me, or buggering off to their room.

Sure, I either watch the old Nick shows that show on Teen Nick's 90s are all that. I also watch iCarly or Victorious. I don't care what others think, I find those shows very enjoyable.

I still watch cartoons, but not a lot of the newer ones. I still sit down and watch shows like My Life as a Teenage Robot or Jimmy Neutron, hell, even PPG and Samurai Jack if they're on. Only new cartoon on the air currently that I watch is FiM, if only that it makes me feel like i'm back in the 1990's, sitting on the couch with a bowl of cereal watching saturday morning cartoons. G1 Pokemon and Yugioh, Fosters, Rocket Power, Rugrats, Looney Toons, Animaniacs, I could list cartoons all friggin day.

No. I really don't understand the phenomenon of full grown advlts who don't have children watching shows like My Little Pony.

Some of the newer shows actually have pretty good story to them.
The Amazing world of Gumball and Adventure time have tons of things that are catered to mostly advlts. (ie: fish with legs named Darwin, pals before gals, blood pact, etc)

And My little pony actually has some decent writing, I personally don't care for it much, but I watched a few episodes and its surprisingly deep for a show meant for little girls.

Edit: Batman Beyond :D
Totally forgot about that, loved that show. I think I still have my batman beyond Halloween costume in the attic.

I don't watch a lot of the newer stuff, but I'll occasionally look up some older shows that I watched as a kid.

Are You Afraid of the Dark, Rocko's Modern Life, Hey Arnold, and Rugrats were my childhood. It's such a shame most of Nickelodeon is such crap now.

Fairly Odd Parents, Samurai Jack, edd edd n eddy, All That, Drake and Josh, spongebob square pants.

I'll never be too old to watch Samurai Jack, Sponge Bob Square Pants, or The Fairly Odd Parents.

However, these new kids shows are just plain terrible. Adventure Time, that stupid show with that blonde kid and the whale, etc. is crap. Total. Garbage.

Watched 150 episodes of Yugioh a couple summers back. Totally worth the time.

I still watch classic 90's cartoons to this day. If anything, there was a lot of advlt humor in those old shows.

I watch Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Labeling different works as kids-only or advlts-only is severely limiting in the art of stories, and often results in less quality work on the part of the writers. On both sides you have unnecessary, superficial elements thrown in just to appease a target audience, and that hurts the overall product. Often, writing in "kid's shows" is so poor because the writers know they can get away with it. They know that children will just eat it right up.

It would be better to write what you want to write and let the story find its audience on its own, instead of manufacturing characters, plots, music, and everything else into the standard package of what the producers think will sell. Labeling stifles new and fresh ideas and causes different parties to be turned off to what might actually be a good, well told story.

Ahem... Sorry for my rant. Just had to get that out. :P

Sure. Lots of them. Every day on Facebook. With free tips on how not to write or behave socially.

And I can still laugh with Pingu, quite appropriately.

Nostalgia. Obviously that doesn't apply to MLP, I don't really understand that phenomenon either.
