If you thought the Eruption of Red Mountain was bad...

The Rift volcano isn't anywhere near the size of the Red Mountain volcano in the area it covers either.

Red Mountain is just the tip of a massive volcanic region that encompasses the whole of Vvardenfell. There's evidence of severe volcanic activity throughout that region and beyond. The forces at work beneath Vvardenfell are unparalleled, the Inland Sea in which Vvardenfell lies is actually a massive impact crater which indicates that the planet's crust is severely compromised in that region.

But yes, the Rift Volcano is a supervolcano much like Yellowstone. And it will give a massive eruption when it blows, because of the fact that the volcano has no (evident) way of dissipating volcanic pressure.

There are a few gas vents in the region, but that is to be expected from any volcanic region.

I honestly don't think it's that far out from an Eruption. The signs are there. Areas where the ground has uplifted to form hills, many steam and gas vents, numerous hydro-thermal areas, and the rumbling that you can hear when in the region.

Yeah, that's the sort of thing that makes me figure it's a result of the primordial catastrophic event where the Heart of Lorkhan was hurled to the surface of Nirn. Not as big an event as the Proto-Earth being struck by the theorized Mars-sized planet, which resulted in the Moon (and, I assume, the complete melting of any crust that had formed on Earth, which would prevent such a crater as the Inland Sea) but much bigger than any impact crater we have evidence of on Earth. Had there been any mortal life on Nirn at the time it obviously would have been an extinction event.

If you look into the Lore, most of Vvardefell island was destroyed by the Dagoth Ur Mountain eruption. This is the reason Freazhder went into Skyrim, to get away from the disaster. Damn Imperial soldiers then not liking refugees.

Lets hope the Volcano in Skyrim is more settled. Dagoth Ur was a complete disaster.
