PC: Do you use Mods?

Once I thoroughly play vanilla, I mod the crap out of each game, especially Oblivion. I think the most I've ever had at one time was close to 90 mods. A lot of them were small tweaks, though, and at least 20 of them were Unique Landscape mods.

For Skyrim, I will likely only use UI tweaks and various bugfixes for my first two or three characters.

I never use mods.

I prefer professional work.

Out of those 190 mods i have for Oblivion that add weapons and creatures, the only way i can tell it's added by a mod is that it has higher resolution texture than the unmodded ones :hehe:

Same applies for New Vegas, it's easy to tell apart the modded weapons and armor because their textures adn models actually have detail.

Bethesda has to create a whole lot of items, and as such the attention to detail affordable on a single item is limited, whereas a modder can spend a lot more time and effort in making their stuff look good.

I'll do what i did with Morrowind and Oblivion, I'll play through 2-3 times with no mods and then i'll start adding every mod i think adds something to enhance my experience in the game.

Professional work, eh? You mean as in releasing official DLC that causes shops to remain closed? Or the horrible FormID bug from Shivering Isles that was discovered by the mod community in the first place? <_<

20+ mods. I think I reached 200 mods in Oblivion. First time I modded Morrowind I think I reached somewhere around 500+ ... it sort of crashed alot though.

I run more mods than I care to count, probably in the 100+ range. A number of which I made myself. I tend to stay away from the large overhauls as I like to fine tune things myself.

I didnt go beyond this post and its probably already been said but there are mods out there that are much higher quality than the vanilla content of Oblivion and Fallout.

I always use mods but I never overdo it. I normally use about 20 mods or so at the same time but I think that this can hardly be considered as hardcoe.

I mod it so much that either my game lags, or it doesn't work at all ;)

here is a list of the mods I have installed for Oblivion - somewhere around 150+

I certainly hope Skyrim won't need that many

That struck me as an interesting viewpoint.

The vast majority of mods that I install aren't things that I think "fix" the game - they're just additional things that I want to play around with. Sure, I play with Fran's scaling mod (not the whole FCOM setup or anything like that), but beyond that the only things that I use to change basic features are what I consider "preferences", not "fixes". Like shorter grass models, so you can actually see things in the wilderness. Or DaRN UI - the basic UI functions fine, I just prefer a different setup.

But, like I mentioned earlier, the vast majority of mods I use are additional "stuff" - more armor & clothes, more races, more hair, more quests, more, more, more. :D

Like all things, yeah - there's alot of crap out there. But there's also a good amount of really nice work. (Which is why a select few "modders" over the years have ended up working in the industry).

Also, I like to play the game "The Way The Developers Intended?" - which, to me, means with mods. (after all, they released the game with mod activation built into the launcher, and with robust modding and development tools freely downloadable).

(First play is vanilla, of course - have to see the game in it's basic state in order to decide what mods I'd like to try. :D)

I use a lot of mods but most of them are fixes and gameplay enhancements. I don't like mods that add new content to the game.

You should add options for I don't play PC?Consoles.

Why? This isn't a poll for console users.

I would also point out that "modding" =/= installing a mod that someone else created

Of course modding == installing a mod that someone else created. Anytime you modify anything you're 'modding' and if you chuck OOO onto your Oblivion install you just modified it dramatically.

It's an issue of semantics.

Isnt the hard limit for mods in the games 255?

Yeah, I wonder that too. Modding and using mods are two entirely different things.

They are? Well I suppose they are technically, but I figured most people around here will tend to roll their own if there isn't already something available. Maybe another option could've covered that point...

254: two are reserved, one for the base esm and the other for the savefile. You can merge certain mods with Bash though, and I'm assuming Mash did the same.

Yeah, http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/41808-1296413411.jpg, clearly inferior to Bethesda's work. :D

I never play without them. Even if the games had nothing to "fix" I would still want to sample all the creative genius the community has spent time crafting. :D

You do have the option to select "I do not use mods in my Elder Scrolls or Fallout games."

I play Morrowind and Fallout 3 on the PC.

Morrowind I don't mod very much, I actually like the atmosphere of the world as it is, and I'm happy with the mechanics and UI. The mods I do use are stuff like NOM and Morrowind Crafting, to make roleplaying more immersive, TR for it's wide and seamless expansion, and some graphical mods to make it look nicer. I do have a few housing mods too, but mostly the srt of stuff that fits into the world neatly. I usually end up making a small mod tailored to each character anyway, with stuff like homes and equipment. I liek Morrowind so much that I'm afraid too much alteration would ruin it.

Fallout 3, I treat more as a blank slate. I've played the vanilla game to death on the PS3, the world is pretty empty and lacking in most respects apart from its vast wasteland. I basically mod the crap out of it, as I feel that its worl lends itself more readily to different types of science fiction styles and gameplay, so I don't feel like I'm damaging anything by using lots of mods.

Pretty hardcoe about my modding. My usual Morrowind installation contains, at the very least, 70 mods, with many more that I probably haven't found yet. I gave mod making a go, but didn't have much motivation to pursue any large scale projects, so I just stopped (That and anything I could mod already was, so what was the point?).

For Oblivion, I had about 20-30 mods running. This is largely because, unlike Morrowind, many game-improving mods came in large packages (Like Francesco's and OOO), rather than spread out everywhere and forcing me to find each individual improvement. Basically, more organized.

Edit: I'd like to note that I hardly ever get addon mods, like extra dungeons. If an improvement modification happens to add some NPCs and such (Like improving the awful enemy diversity in Oblivion), then I'll let it do so. However, adding things like one single sword I thought was cool, a crafted dungeon, one new enemy, etc., I will not bother installing. If I have to resort to a plethora of addons to enjoy a game, then that just means the game svcks and I shouldn't even be wasting my time playing it.

Actually, that goes for all mods, now that I think about it. To be frank, I shouldn't have to mod any of these games, since they should be good enough, in my eyes, to play vanilla. The fact that I can't enjoy them without mods is not a good sign and maybe the publishers should start to consider what gamers really want in their games...Nah, that'd never happen.

I use a few mods to patch up the game and sometimes include expansions. Usually that's it, but I sometimes use mods that improve the game's graphics, and extra fun user created goodies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Lo0qD6rOz8
