You can't Deny Source Engine its one of 10 best game Engine's
That depends. If you're trying to argue that it's one of the 10 best engines ever, it's not. If you're trying to argue that it's one of the 10 best engines currently, it's not. If you're trying argue that it was one of the 10 best engines in 2004, you might have a point. But no, there's no reason that any company should use it today. However, Valve will continue to for at least the near future, because it's already established and would be less expensive to develop on than creating an entirely new engine.

Do remember the Creation Engine is essentially Morrowind -> Oblivion -> F3's GameBryo engine that's held together with masking tape and hot glue.

Call of Juarez 2 looked fine (though I never played it). If you've ever played the third Call of Juarez, however, you'd be able to tell that it looks blurry with low-textures even compared to a good looking game released years prior. In addition, that used Chrome Engine 5.

There isn't much about the Creation Engine to like. It's just a heavily outdated and modified Gamebryo that suited Bethesda for the release of Skyrim. There's really no reason that Skyrim should look only marginally better than Oblivion, a game that had been released more than 5 years prior.

Apart from the one, they aren't development screenshots.

Here you go, 1080p in game shot: http://pluswun.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/oblivion2.jpg

Still doesn't even compare.

The problem is that when I say "marginally better," I'm referring to how it looks slightly better as a whole. But when I'm comparing two separate aspects, Skyrim almost always loses.

The shadows in Skyrim are garbage. Even maxed out, they are pixelated and jittery. The only way to make them look better is to tweak the .INI, but even then you're trading quality for distance. In Oblivion, you could max the shadows out vanilla and they looked great. Sure, not quite as good as some of the best these days, but far better than Skyrim (ignoring self-shadows, with both games svcked at).

The world and object textures in Skyrim (at least the PC version) are garbage, and that's honestly what pisses me off the most. The 360 had issues with textures not improving in Skyrim after installing it to the HDD, but they got a patch to fix it. PC games are stuck here two months later without so much as a word from Bethesda regarding whether or not these crap textures are fixable. Almost everything in Skyrim looks flat at close inspection, and even sometimes far away.

The flora and fauna in Skyrim look like garbage up close. If you go right up to a tree or shrub, you can see that the foliage is rendered in 2D sheets. It's honestly embarrassing.

The only things that Skyrim has a clear advantage in are in character textures and animations and water textures. However, the latter is easily fixable in Oblivion with a small patch.

In the end, it's really disappointing how many steps they took backwards.

It looks like PC is now losing the console wars in favor of the worst of the bunch... Quite sad really. Hopefully Bethesda will remember that most of their faithful fans are PC players and they will change their tune.

EDIT: Don't forget that while Creation does LOOK only slightly better than GameBryo it sure does function a helluva lot better.

I'm glad you provided a link to my profile in case I forgot who I was, very handy.

It's difficult to like a topic when 85% of the posts are you accusing people of not knowing what they're talking about when they don't agree with your lofty opinions of the Source engine.
