Heh, from all over the place then. I'm originally from Zeeland myself. Still, seems weird to hear someone say they're Dutch (or any ethnicity/nationality really) because of their ancestors so many centuries back, but barely even know the language. I met a Canadian guy last year, he had a Dutch father and a Mexican mother (or grandmother, I can't remember). The only Dutch things about him are his height and his name.
Not so many centuries. My great grandfather (the family name) came over in 1892. My grandfather was the first one born here- 1911. He was tri-lingual- English, Dutch, Frisian. I never had the time to learn from him before he died- 1985.
The Dutch culture "thing" is strong here. Hell, I was born in Holland and went to school in Zeeland. I work in Borculo and have relatives buried in the Noodeloos, Vriesland, and North Holland cemeteries.
