Your favorite RPG

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 6:59 pm

Hey everyone,

just wanted to find out what your favorite RPG of all time is. Sure on a Bethesda forum a lot of people will vote for TES games but my favorite is definitely Might & Magic 6. Don't know if a lot of people know this one but it was a lot of fun playing this back in the days and I must have spend countless hours on this game without ever actually finishing it. Still I love it to bits.
So what's your favorite RPG?

One of these again? :P

Obviously being on this forum I really like a lot of RPGs, but I'll narrow it down a bit. These four are my favourites, but I can never decide which one I like best.

V:tM - Bloodlines
Knights of the Old Republic
The Witcher
TES III - Morrowind

Morrowind's my big favorite (big surprise) and it's probably my favorite game I've ever played. Following in a close second in the RPG category is Mass Effect 1. Probably one of the most immersive, tactical games I've ever played. Especially on insanity where you really have to struggle to survive!

It shifts between Fallout, Fallout 2 and Planescape: Torment depending on the day and mood.

Full moon, rainy, and wolves are howling outside.

Which game wins?

I have an assualt rifle that never overheats, and my immunity recharges before the effect wears off... Without immunity the thorian creeprs and rachni would be much worse, due too their acid attacks ignoring my shields.

Fallout new vegas, by far.

Today i think it's Torment, just started a new game an hour or so ago (high res mod and some other goodies, and it looks aesthetically more beatiful than most games out there).

I don't really have one favorite, but I'd rate the following very high:

wRPGs:
Gothic 2 (+ NdR expansion)
Fallout 3 (+FOOK)

jRPGs:
Final Fantasy 8
Breath of Fire 3

Gothic 2 was really the best one out of the series (and Bethesda could learn a lot from this game!).
And Fallout 3 is just the best game Bethesda ever made.

But why FF8 (and not 7 or 9 or whatever)?
Because it's the first one I played, and I still really like its unique feel and world.
And BoF3 is just another cool jRPG with some really nice ideas and a rather good story.

Another one would be Alundra.
But it's probably rather an action-adventure-jump-and-run with RPG-elements (like Zelda). Dunno, if I would really call it RPG.

Is it the same res. mod you can use for Baldur's Gate?

I need to play and FINISH it next time I get around to installing it again.

My laptop broke, im a cheap bastard and wont fix it (why spend money when I can invert the screen and read upside down) so I cant play games, but im still curious to see what the modders have done with such an old game.

I don't know why but I could never really get into Gothic 2. And from the Final Fantasy series 10 is my favorite although I played 7 and 9 before that. Still it's a close call between 7 and 10 for me.

Going to make up some genres here.

Open World RPG: Morrowind
FPS RPG: Deus Ex
jRPG: Chrono Trigger
Party based RPG: Baldur's Gate 2

And a special mention to Roguelike RPG Dungeons Of Dredmor.

What des modded PST look like ?
The widescreen mod allows for larger screen resolutions, including widescreen, giving you a more 'zoomed out' view of the landscape.

Oh I completely forgot Betrayal at Krondor. Awesome game, especially after having read the books although that kind of spoiled the story. But just living it in a PC game was awesome.
And seriously, no love for Might & Magic around here? :)

Saga Frontier for me. A wide open JRPG that has a colorful and shiny combat system, interesting characters ranging from robots to nobility vampires to drunken ex-samurai to even a superhero, the awesome soundtrack, the environment, and the 7 main character stories to tell.

After that, it follows to Daggerfall, Fallout 1, and Guild Wars.

You asked for one, but I gave four. Deal with it.

Final Fantasy IX

My favorite game in general.

While I'm not a huge fan of JRPGs, I must say that FFIX is in my top 5 favorite games of all time, because I can play the damn thing over and over again, because the story is that good!

And not a SINGLE line of voiced dialouge!! (that I can remember)

It's hard to name my absolute favorite RPG, So I will instead go with my top 6.

In no particular order:

Fallout: New Vegas
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy Tactics
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Baldurs Gate II
SW:KOTOR II
