List the top 10 movies that you would recommend watching

For me, in no particular order:
1. American Psycho (Only if you're over 18)
2. The Dark Knight (IMO, the best superhero movie ever made)
3. Watchmen (Good, but falls just below the Dark Knight)
4. 300 (Great action flick if you're into that sort of stuff, and again, 18+ only)
5. Fight Club (What can I say? Noone talks about fight club...)
6. Avatar (The 3D in this changed my life)
7. Shutter Island (Mind = blown)
8. Lord Of the Rings 1,2 and 3 (Yes, I know it's 3 movies technically, but if you watch one, you must watch all of them!)
9. Thor (I was really surprised by this one, turned out to be ALOT funnier than expected)
10. the Shawshank Redemption (Just a purely awesome movie. Words cannot describe how good it was )

I'm a bit of a Will Ferrell lover, so my top 10 may not appease all tastes. I also haven't seen a lot of classics.

1.) LOTR Trilogy
2.) Remember the Titans
3.) Anchorman
4.) Step Brothers
5.) Apocolypto
6.) R.E.C
7.) Semi Pro
8.) Man on Fire
9.) No country for old men
10.) Fight club

8. Mad max 1, 2, 3

This would be on my list of films I wouldn't recommend. I thought Mad Max was boring.

Mine, in no particular order:
1. The Fifth Element
2. Point Break (bit of a guilty pleasure, but great action movie)
3. Memoirs of a Geisha
4. Lord of the Rings
5. Fight Club (read the book too)
6. Hero
7. Troy
8. Batman Begins + The Dark Knight
9. Inception
10. Die Hard

These are just a few of the movies I think everybody should watch.

Heh. I thought Inception and The Dark Knight were extremely boring. And don't even get me started on the Frodo/Gollum scenes of LOTR. :P

1. Fight Club
2. Reservoir Dogs
3. Inception
4. The Dark Knight (but only if one has seen Batman Begins)
5. Watchmen
6. A Scanner Darkly
7. Night of the Living Dead (1968)
8. Rec/Rec 2
9. Superbad
10. Saving Private Ryan

I'm a huge fan of Tarantino in particular, and to be honest, my list would've looked more like: Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill/Kill Bill 2, Sin City, Inglorious Basterds... but I thought mentioning Dogs was enough, since it's the one that started it all, and still my personal favorite. Fight Club however, is the film that changed my life the most. I'm also a Nolan fan and an Alan Moore fan, but I didn't mention V For Vendetta since I enjoyed Watchmen much more.

I've gone through the lists above, and am definitely going to go and rent some of the movies mentioned. Taxi Driver, Schindler's List, and Princess Bride. Apart from Das Boot, those are the only 3 I haven't seen that have been mentioned up until now.

Inglorious Basterds is really good. Some amazingly tense scenes in that film!

This time I'm going to use films I love that 1-I don't often list in this type of topic and 2-that were made before 1980. No particular order:

Cool Hand Luke (1967)
The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
The Magnificent Seven (1960) (yes I know it's based on a Kurosawa film)
The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
A Bridge Too Far (too long but still great fun imo) (1977)
12 Angry Men (1957)
High Noon (1952)
Rear Window (1954)
North by Northwest (1959)

Anything Clint Eastwood except for the chimp movies
 Ditto.

Blade Runner
Chinatown
Inception
Usual Suspects
Dr. Strangelove
Star Wars
Empire Strikes Back
The Longest Day
The Departed
Airplane

Not necessarily a list of films I feel are the "best" as such, but if I ever suggested only 10 movies to see, it would be these.

Vertigo
Once Upon a Time in the West
Rain Man
Rabbi Jacob
Blade Runner
Some Like it Hot
Sunset Boulevard
They Call me Trinity
Delusions of Grandeur
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

I'm not a huge fan of the LOTR movies... I find them to be too much of a straight adaptation of the books, there's nothing really innovative about them... and they're not quite as good as the original material. They have beautiful landscapes and armor designs, though.
