Your weirdest habits?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 9:50 pm

I have a similar behavior. In addition to not stepping on the door sill, if I'm walking down a hallway or something with tiled floor, I do my best to not step on the outline of the tiles, and only step in the center. Luckily, I'm not too obsessive about this, and if it'll make me look crazy if I do these things in public, then I have enough self control to just walk normal and ignore it.

I try to make sure I step on the same type of tile with each foot and make sure the inside of my left foot is the same distance from the crack as my right foot... I honestly feel weird when I try to ignore this habit and just keep my head up.

Also I make really symmetrical beats with my teeth.. like "right left left right left right right left" and so on.. lol

My biggest OCD: Numbered volume can't be on an odd number except for a 5, so I like volume in intervals of 5 or even numbers. For example, If the volume was 19 on the TV, I would put it down to 18 or up to 20. It it was 23, down to 22 or 24 or 25.

You would drive me nuts. I like my numbers odd, or if not odd the individual units of the number must add up to 6. I am so happy we're not roommates.

I have to have the volume ending on a 5 or a 0 on the TV, and any even number on my laptop.

For me it there has to be a 0, 2, 5, or 8 at the end of the number.

I could only imagine the horror of watching TV with you. You and I would probably end up fighting to the death over volume. :P

This is usually what I do as well. But at night when my family is asleepthe EVEN numbers come into play sometimes. See that Oof, EVEN numbers.

If I were to list them all, it would take up multiple lines and be a wall of text that the likes of which have never been seen on the internet.
-I make funny noises a LOT during any task, almost like it is my mind going through its paces.
-I hum while eating and it bugs the hell out of everyone.
-When I wake up in the morning, I need to crack near every joint in my body. This includes my neck, back, fingers, toes, joint in the middle of my foot, ankles, elbows, the middle knuckles of my fingers, and my wrists.
-I do this weird thing with my tongue. It is hard to describe. I think it is a stress respoonse.
-When i get anything new that has buttons on it, i have to press each button using every finger on both my left and my right hand before I will use it.
... and many more!

I live by my nose, so I'm always sniffing things. I pick up an orange, quick sniff. Pick up a pillow, sniff it. Pick up a jacket, sniff. Open food containers, sniff. Pick up a book, sniff. Enter a car, house, office, bathroom, or even step outside, first thing I'll notice is smell. I'm the one in the room who will be asking "Do you smell that?" (good or bad smells) all the time. I've tried to reduce the frequency of auto-pilot item-sniffing since I suppose it looks weird but yeah...I'm a bloodhound. Hubs apparently can't smell/doesn't notice half of what I can smell. heh

So as long as the serial killer behind the shower curtain isn't odorless, I'll notice him long before I open the curtain.

I am also a sniffer. One thing I'm weird with is bread at the super market. Whenever I go with other people, they always think I'm mad when I examine the french stick with forensic detail, I need to squeeze them all, (through the paper bag of course) smell them all etc.

Also, when I meet a girl for the first time, the first thing I notice is her nose. I think that's very weird and now that I'm aware of it, I try not to.

Also, does anyone else narrate their life sometimes? I like to have little on going dialogues in my head and almost pretend like I'm in a book.

Ie: Fin (my name) stalked cautiously down the street, glancing over his shoulder every few steps, just to make sure that no one was in pursuit. All of a sudden a young woman pushing a child appears from a side street and nearly sends him reeling when his head is turned, she manages to avoid him and fixes him with an icy look of disapproval, tutting as she carries on her way."

I'm pretty sure thats's weird. It's not all the time, only occasionally when my mind wanders.

I am not alone... I also take a moment to look at my surroundings and engulf everything and I can picture it perfectly.

Those little sticker seals on the edge of games/cds/movies that usually has a print of the name/date of it I've spent upwards of 20 minutes carefully pealing them off the case to avoid ripping it. Then I crumple or fold them up and throw them out.

That would be amazing! I'd love to have Morgan Freeman follow me around, just giving a little narration on every day life. :D

ARGH! I hate these stickers! I always have to peel off any and all stickers on my cases of anything.

If I managed to get it off in one piece, I had to fold the sticker perfectly in half so that there was absolutely no sticky edge, then usually fold it again as many times as possible, then bin it.

lol Well now I don't feel so odd anymore...

Or maybe I should being I share a LOT of these quirks.

But let's see:

I do the shower curtain thing. Not sure why, just oddly became this nagging feeling. I have no clue where it even came from. (And I'm actually rather embarassed to admit that. lol As I've NEVER told anyone I do this.)
I turn from my left to the right side to sleep.
I also seem to divide my plate up into meats, starches, veggies and eat them in a specific order. I'm getting better about mixing my food though... which I use to NEVER do.
On the same token, I can't have sauces, dressings or syrups on top of my food. I have to have them on the side and dip my food in it. I'll even ask for a seperate bowl when eating pancakes at a restaurant because I can NOT pour syrup on them. Ugh.

There are other quirks but they tend to pop up randomly. Certain things are placed in a way that bothers me or I'm in the process of doing something in a specific way and someone tries to change it. Just really gets under my skin.

I live by my nose, so I'm always sniffing things. I pick up an orange, quick sniff. Pick up a pillow, sniff it. Pick up a jacket, sniff. Open food containers, sniff. Pick up a book, sniff. And this.. so this! No one could understand why I got so angry when they changed the detergent I had been using for the last 15 years. It smelled like perfection to me .. scent crack. lol Then they made it smell like someone puked up flowers and bubblegum... UGH! I still haven't found one that appeals to me. (Or maybe I'm just weird like all my friends tell me.)

Guess I'm in a pretty bad place if you consider your habits bad XD I have a few ones but the weirdest one is probably how much I stick to the same food when ordering at places. There are at least three places in the city where I can just walk up to the counter and hand whoever is working my card and they will go get what I usually order correctly down to every little detail. But that's probably not surprising when you've ordered the same thing either over or nearing to a hundred times at certain places...

Another habit I have is when it comes to card and board games I describe my every action out loud. I think it started simply because it helps to keep track to rules and such to keep your opponents attention on what you are doing so if you do something wrong they can spot it more easily, but at a certain point it just becomes annoying to my friends.

Me: I tap a forest and a plain for a Jade Mage. I tap a forest and two plains for a saporling. I...
Friend: Darn it Ellert just tap your mana and cast your cards!
Me: Okay... I tap one plain and a forest for Spirit Mantle... oh... sorry...
Friend: *sigh*
Me: I move into combat phase......

XD Yeah perhaps I keep silent for a moment but then soon after I forget myself and I start describing my every move again. It is a running joke at the local hobby store that I should go teach games to blind people since they wouldn't miss anything I do.

I also tend to scratch my nose in a certain manner when I'm feeling embarrassed or when I'm trying to pull off a lie or cheat (which in turn will often make me feel embarrassed) so it's always easy for a friend of mine who likes to cheat a lot in games and brag about it afterwards to notice when I'm trying to beat him at his own game.
Spoiler
But then I usually just end up finding a way to beat him without cheating :P

Every time I take shower or go to the bathroom I always check behind the shower curtains to make sure there isn't any serial killers hiding there. I also lick my front teeth when I get nervous.
So do I! I always have the feeling that there is a person just watching me use the bathroom or something. So I take a peak behind the shower curtain, just to be safe. Sometimes I don't look though, that's when someone is behind it!

My door doesn't have a peephole and there aren't nearby windows, so I just don't answer the door if I'm not expecting someone (plus I had a peeping tom issue at the last place I lived...creepy).
