ZAM Q&A with Matt Firor

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 9:55 pm

Eh, fair points. I haven't heard anything specific on it but I don't see why they wouldn't have some loadout save slots. I can't really think of any MMOs I've played recently that didn't.

Have we heard anything about macros? Might be able to do some keen stuff with them that could take some of the burden off swapping skills/gear out if they're going to be in.

Well hopefully with LUA modding that will be available there will be some UI mods made where we can save and swap gear and skills.

I haven't been reading that much bout the game till now. And i've gotta say that I am severely disapointed that we won't be seeing any actual "living" world pvp. Sure there is a dedicated pvp area, but that's it. No dynamic runing into the enemy while questing, no way to actually meet lower or higher level character from the enemy factions. This is just terrible <.<. It completely takes away the feeling of war during the leveling phase, it might aswell be one faction co op game untill you reach max level...

Of course this is purely my opinion, but having open world pvp in wow was some of my favourite stuff to do, teh randomness of it was amazing, so fun. :/. Such a damn shame because other elements of the game sounds fun.

So, normally I could place skills on my bar for a given weapon. Then, if I switched to a different weapon, I could do the same. So, over all, I could have a saved set of skills for each weapon I switch to? Sounds good to me.

Just to be clear, you could pick any active any skills from any tree, not just weapons, for that skill bar. The weapons just switch the skill bars. So, yes.

I noticed there was a mention of armor switching and other factors that would make the deck building have too many options. Or more to the point, there would be too many decks to build to make this option viable. I don't think that is true.

I mean, if you gave every player 10 deck builds per character, I bet that would cover most players needs. You have 6 weapon swaps over all, right? (Two handed, one handed+shield, duel wield, bow, attack staff, healing staff). I bet most characters will not be actively using all 6 sets most of the time. I would think each character would use 2 to 3 at most, for any given time. (not each player, each character) Don't get me wrong, eventually most characters will probably use all weapon sets eventually, but at any given time, they would probably only be working on 2 or 3.

The number of options do not force how many is "enough" but the actual design. For example if you are forced mechanically to change builds often (damage resists, types of attacks etc) or if the devs want you to "do more with less". You can see the different arguments popping up with Wow and the recent debates over trispec, or Rift with the ever demanding playerbase for "just one more role slot" to Tsw where you have tons of options but no real need to use any of them. Different designs lead to different problems.

I was surprised how little this Q&A actually said. Many of the questions were artistically evaded :D.

I'm not really clear on what you point is here. Are you saying because you might be constantly changing out one or two skills for another, there is no point in the deck building?

No, what is that?

Because some players are asking for more deck slots, we should have none? I don't see how that is logical.

I don't play TSW, so I can't speak for that. However, I do have a basic understanding of how ESO will work. I would use deck building.

It can still go either way.. I personally hope/think they do differently this time. SWTOR, Rift both tried wow-style-gear-mill (like half-dozen other MMOs before those...) and we all saw what happened. Better just to try something unique, Titan is knocking your door soon anyway.

Nah dude, I had the same feeling at first announcement because I absolutely love world PvP. But Cyrodiil is more than just a massive ongoing battlefield. Its a zone you can quest and level in, with dungeons, etc. You want world PvP, you quest in Cyrodiil. You'll encounter other players out there exping and gathering crafting stuff and doing campaign stuff. Plenty of people to fight.

Basically true PvP lovers will LIVE in Cyrodiil I think.

I get what you're saying, but I don't want it to be a "choice" risking to run into an enemy. I want it to be a costant danger. It is a war situation, people should be free to arrange attacks on whereever they feel like. And if you dun wanna be ganked at low levels, all power to ya, play on a pve server. This is really frustrating :/. Some of the most fun I had in wow was the old school pvp skirmishes around goldshire and crossroads which slowly buitl up to a huge battle. I loved it even when I was leveling there, it was awesome to see all these high level heroes battle it out, an actual battle. I can't believe freakin world of worcraft has become the "punishing" game in terms of open world pvp.
