ZAM Q&A with Matt Firor

New post put up on Twitter.

Few things that we can finally take away from this

1) Finally it's confirmed that you will NOT see members of the other faction when doing the 50+(+) zones. (Called it) :P

Well guess that's really only the "big" thing really confirmed in that article. I mean we pretty much knew that was how it was going to be. But there was many naysayers out there though.

Not sure if i like that there will be no loud-out/deck management system. Hopefully after some testing, feedback will show that it'll be a necessary feature. I just don't see how they can think its not needed to be able to "save" somehow your builds that you can make. He says because the system is so open its not feasible. I say because the system is so open its mandatory.

I'm pretty sure that it was hinted at, if not mentioned, elsewhere that you would be in a segregated instance for the 50+ zones with your faction only, so this might not even be new information...off to find a source :D

Edit: Thanks, knew I had seen it somewhere :tops: Something new would be nice though, E3 feels so far away....

Well we have had two Devs already say this before, but some people (won't say who) kept insisting that I'm not listening to them correctly and saying that we will see the enemy faction when we do 50+(+).

Maria Aliprando said it to Sjin when he did his interview with them back when they did the second media hands-on.

We’re working on moment-to-moment gameplay, which for The Elder Scrolls Online means questing and combat and, to some extent, the leveling system. As part of this, we’re anolyzing how to make combat flow better/look more connected, make sure that enemy AI is consistent and that combat just feels fun and rewarding.

Should ease some people's mind.

A tad bummed out at how rigid the PvP environment is presenting itself to be. If you want PvP, you get it, if you don't want it, you don't get it (by staying in certain zones).

I can see why they're doing this, as not everyone wants to PvP, but sometimes It's just kinda fun to get into an unexpected fight.

Oh well...

They mentioned crafting materials in Cyrodiil. I would imagine certain items can only be obtained from that province and thus would provide incentive to explore, even if you don't want PvP (giving the risk you crave). Though being able to avoid it by staying in the faction zones is not new, despite some people's cries for OWPvP and the denial that Cyrodiil is the 'PvP zone'. Equally players can still level up in Cyrodiil though due to other players / quests / possible mob density in some areas it wouldn't be as effective.

You seem to be forgetting that while staying safe is not new, you were at least able to see them.

Whether one or the other makes more sense is debatable, and subject to the actual rules of said in-game world, but I am a tad disappointed that there's no possibilities of PvP in those zones.

The biggest thing I took away from this is that they're aware of the complaints about floaty/unconnected-feeling combat, and are actively working on making it more satisfying. I had concerns they might simply ignore that feedback. Glad they didn't.

Definitely happy about that bit.

With regards to deck building, I think the system is too organic for that. Or at least it is intended to be. Something like Skyrim where you just play and your character is determined by the choices you make in the actual game world.

A deck management feature would make it more about math and min/maxing. I think they are trying to avoid such behaviors (in line with playing the game rather than that UI.)

You’ve stated previously that crafted gear will be on par with top tier weapons/loot drops from various sources and some of the best items in the game will come from crafters. How do you see this playing out in-game? Will there be some control mechanism to prevent top-level equipment from becoming too common (e.g. bind-on-pickup materials that drop from raids, cooldowns on recipes, etc.)?

Crafting at high-levels focuses on augmenting existing armor and weapons, so think about it as crafters can make your awesome gear even awesome-er.I

like this alot!

That was never mentioned. It was touted as a version of the opposing faction areas that your side would be in without the enemy (though scaled up in risk / reward to keep it interesting and relevant), it was a continuation of PvE content.

That people decided to press the open world arguement, and many got muddled between what was said and what people wanted to have, would be the problem.

I would imagine some items would be made rare either by dropping of monsters (possibly in Cyrodiil dungeons) rarely, being rare gatherables within Cyrodiil, or getting the recipes for the improvements themselves could be awkward / rare. Eventually it will all become somewhat common but that could be a long way off and slowed due to those with prized recipes leaving over time.

Aye I knew it was clear from the beginning that is how it was. But it seems that a lot of people weren't 100% convinced that this was true.

To go along with all the talks about unexpected PvP you have to realize that Cyrodiil isn't just a PvP zone. Yes it's the only zone in the game that has PvP enabled, but it has tons of different PvE aspects to it. Ranging from 18 public dungeons that are found in there, to possible crafting materials that can only be found there, and daily quests that are found within the cities that you own. So there is plenty of incentives for PvEers to want to go into Cyrodiil and still experience that feeling of unexpected PvP on them.

Yes I've said like 3 times on this thread I've known that it has been confirmed for a long time. I was taking a little jab at certain people you kept refusing to believe that it was true.

So Crafting at end-game consists of making items you find more better? So exactly like every crafting profession in every themepark MMO since forever.

In my opinion, when I think of crafting being on par with endgame gear, I see a crafter being able to make the best briastplate in the game. Not enchanting the best briastplate in the game found off an endgame boss.

Dev speak at its finest and I KNEW this could never last.

I believe It's been mentioned several times, that you will only be able to see allies who are in the same situation as you (leveled to 50, and starting in a new zone).

SO where does this: Being able to guild with and group with people from your friends list regardless of faction play in? Cause that was stated after the last press event as a possibility. 2 things cant be right here.

Well then that will be wrong then. That's three times Devs have specifically said that you will NOT see other factions when in their zones doing the 50+(+). Believe whatever you want to believe, but when the Lead Designer of the game (Firor) says that you won't be able to do it, you better damn believe that you will NOT be able to do it.

I thought you were saying enemy players would be visible in the faction areas 50+, as you were referencing PvP and safety :D from this original post in the conversation...

Yeah I don't remember reading anything about that either. I mean they want us to have "Faction Pride" in this game. Why would you say that, but still let us team up with people on the other faction. That is just a blatant contradiction towards what they want.

But I agree if this has been said, please link the source to it, because I would like to see this.
