100% repair vendors

Post » Sun Apr 03, 2011 12:04 pm

Also why is it that only our player and no one in the FONV area would be that experienced in repairs, bound to be at least one.

Because people will never stop complaining about being forced to go to them to get everything on them repaired to 100% and that it makes the game too easy "[insert good thing here] makes the game broken and it should be removed."

That's true but remember these repairs wouldn't be cheap and u gotta have the money for it. If you decide to boost your own repair skill then maybe you won't need these 100% vendors and you can save yourself the caps or w.e..Lets say someone tags their repair skill all the way up to the max; they have an advantage in that area and dont need to pay for a vendor to do the work. However, they would be risking improving other skills. If you decide you really dont wanna spend skill points on repair and rather spend them on another skill, then you have to deal with paying a crap load of caps to the vendors. There has to be some type of balance and I think this method would be effective.

Money is much easier to get than skill points. All you have to do is keep selling any weapons and ammo you don't use. Late game could be swamped with energy weapons worth a lot of money for all we know.

I believe theere should be one, like in Fo3 point lookout, hadley i believe he was and he was rather expensive, i prefer not to use fast travel so my stuff gets worn down fast and you can't just find a bunch of gatling lazers laying around so he was worth the boat ride for me. also, if vendors can't make the specialty ammo the repair skill IS still worth it.

The vendors might sell limited quantities of the home made ammo types, but if you're planning on using a lot of it, you're better being able to craft it yourself.

Back to the topic at hand, it always helps being able to repair your own gear as that help keep your cash expenditure down which in turn can let you get the armour or gun of much droolyness slightly quicker that you noticed that a vendor is offering for a silly amount of cash and you just can't wait to get your grubby hands on it to see just how it performs in action.

Why would you use 100% repair vendors for full repair (I.E. >45%-100%) when you can use repair kits for the bulk of the work? I mean granted maxing out the condition on your weapons to get those extra few clips worth of effective firing would be nice.

what about if its like how you can help that slaver guy in paradise city. that wasn't all that hard but it did take some time as how you had to catch a slave then find 20 Chinese assault rifles to get the advantages (which weren't all that great anyway)

Faaaaaar too easy for my taste.

You had to catch a slave (rather easy) or pass a speech check and cough up some caps (also not too hard).

Then run to Mama Dolce's and the only problem you might face was how to haul all those Chinese assault rifles in one trip.

Child's play.

Perhaps I understated my view. Part of the whole Vault Dweller/Chosen One/Lone Wanderer/Courier thing is self-reliance- getting around that should be a regal pain in the gluteus maximus.

Some people are not going to tag repair or put any points into it for roleplaying reasons.

Their choice. If they're worthy of the title "Roleplayer" then they're familiar with the concept of actions having consequences that must be dealt with.

While I would love to see them be utterly screwed for doing so, it's not fair that they should be unable to make full use of any piece of equipment so a repairman with peak skill should exist.

Show me someone that defines "fair" as "I can screw my skills up thoroughly and still be uber 'cause the game holds my widdle hand for me and coddles my mistakes" and I'll show you one sorry excuse for a roleplayer.

Maybe for such ninnies we should also do away with death and having to reload a save...after all, "it's not faaaaaaaair" to make people feel like they've failed. Let'em reappear in town with a big "Oh, you made a whoopsie!" sign on the screen.

Welcome to the videogame Special Olympics.

Roleplaying also encompasses not doing things, like not using the master repairman. But I'm sure you'll find a reason to complain about that, too, since that's all you people ever do, complain about people having options.

A char without a weapon skill can never use that weapon to full potential either.

I think it ,makes the game far too easy to min max.

Deal with it how? They would only have one way to do this, theres no choice in that. I thought an RPG was about choices.

The choice should be: To put points in repair or not. If you can get it easier than using repair then why not just max out barter and completely ignore repair on every playthrough? You get a double advantage there.

You do with repair also, considering you can make handloads and repair for free by your self. double advantage.

There is a significant DISadvantage to depending on other, mortal, characters for all repairs. You must always have the cash on hand. You must always travel to them if you want something done, even if you're in the middle of a quest, especially one indoors and not easily escaped. They can be killed leaving you with no options whatsoever and destroying all reason to even play a game that focuses on weapons. There are just as many downsides to this as there are potential exploits.

To be honest, thats something that always burned me in F3 was only being able to use that merc chick for 100% repaired items. In my opinion it shouldnt be difficult to obtain access. If your item is a unique item with no other like it (tenpennys suit for example), go to the vendor, pay the price, and boom, 100% items. Don't like how 'easy' it is to do this? Simple solution for that too. Don't use them. But of course, the fact that 'something easy' is in their game, they'll throw a fit on the forums, then secretly use it when they play the game.

Nah, don't want 100% vendors.

We've got a repair skill, and with the addition of repair kits, there's a good chance that'll solve the "unique weapon with no extras for parts" scenario.

Hopefully that's the case for Unique Named weapons and homemade weapons. Otherwise, for certain armors that are one of a kind, like the Chinese Stealth Armor, we'd never be able to get it in 100% repaired condition again, as the vendors in Fallout 3 can only fix it about 85%. Gun repair is more critical though.

i voted no but i guess it would be cool to have at least 1. but from my experience repair is a skill i want to boost with most playstyles but honestly once you get to 50% you can repair anything about 75% and at that amount its pretty much running at full capability. even if you're trying to mass hoard repair and sell items its more profitable to have items that are not at 100% so unless you have rare items like the gauss rifle that cant be repaired by other items then i guess it would be useful but for the most part i dont see it being useful but i say if you want it in the game it should be.

Yes i would like it to be like that! I would like to have 1 gun repairman out in the middle of nowhere that is hard to find but when you do find him/her he will repair all your guns

The chinese stealth armor repairs with recon armor. I feel very sad to be the first person to tell you this.
Maybe the Brotherhood of Steel will be a little more intelligently designed this time since the Brotherhood Scribes in the Citadel who are supposed to be the brightest non-Enclave minds in the world had completely un-leveled repair skill around 15 or 17, no better than the most piddling of wasteland junk traders.

They had repair hammers in Oblivion and you could still take things to a merchant if you didn't have any of those. More options are always better than fewer; that's how you end up with things like the unrepairable Gauss Rifle.

There should be repair folks with different skills. If they have a high skill, you pay more for repair, even if it is just to take a weapon from 95% to100%. But, you would pay less to say take a weapon from 20% to 50% as the overall condition is still low.

These higher skilled repair folks should be harder find too. Maybe you have to do some quest for them, or you have to travel to a far away point on the map or you don't get to discover them until later in the game. Or, you could invest by paying for their schooling so they get better as the game goes on.

i say yes, though they should be rare. Say maybe 3 or 4 throughout the wasteland. Maybe to even gain the option for them to repair your stuff, you'd have to go on a 'mini-quest' to gain their 'trust' first.

No.

I don't think I even own a 100% effective item in this over-modern world. I would hardly expect perfection in a Fallout sort of world, where used parts generally over a hundred years old are used to fix abused items.

The game makes it so its supposed to be a struggle to find and use perfect condition weapons. 100% repair vendors would ruin that part of the game and make the game in total easier, i'll pass
