100% repair vendors

Post » Sun Apr 03, 2011 3:24 pm

Its difficult to really answer this without knowing how fast your weapons degrade and how many other options there are to repair weapons which are rare or unique.

However I voted yes, because if all else fails someone you can throw money to so you can use that great [censored] you found and wore out is more fun then having that great [censored] be worthless junk.

Well, since it is said that one is able to repair everything up to 100% from the get go.... I guess it's not ridiculous to assume that the "repair NPCs" can do that too (hopefully at a significant cost at least).

Yes, because we all know constantly repairing items is annoying but that should cost a lot more if you repair at 100%.

What'd be great is if some weapons/armor that are hard to get, don't degrade. Like the Winterized Power Armor from Operation Anchorage. Just perhaps harder to get. Ah, pretty much a combination of the work of getting the Experimental MIRV and Operation Anchorage, but not as insanely strong as the MIRV. I mean, the Winterized Power Armor is good, but no where near the best. The only reason it's good is that it never degrades. Alien Blaster-ish weapon that's hard to get, degrade, 10mm pistol-ish weapon that's hard to get, don't degrade. Otherwise what's the point in keeping a friggin weak weapon like that?

If it is true that 100% repair vendors are in, I hope there will not be for hardcoe mode at least very rare as in one person rare. PA is to complicated for a wastelander bumb to know how to fix. My character should not know how to fix it unless he's super smart great at repair and found some "how to fix PA" manual. His last job as a courier does not really qualify him to fix PA. The BoS even have a hard time fixing it.

I don't want it. I find any game gets boring when you have a crapload of everything. If its hard in the beginning oh well. It's supposed to be. I think if they did it would have to be one so if you wanted it you'd have to be nice to that person or faction. If not, try it next playthrough.

I say yes.. .. I think it would be nice if vendors actually had different levels they could repair the equipment for you.. lower levels of repair cost less then higher levels of repair. So in the beginning levels of the game when your character is poor you would only be able to afford the lower level services.. as the game progresses and you get more money then you can buy higher level services. As long as the repair service was money based it wouldn't unbalance the game any.

I only read through a couple posts in this topic, so forgive me if this has already been brought up:

1. Weapons can be repaired to 100% with any repair skill in New Vegas, the purpose for the repair skill is for making things such as ammo, weapons, and other things, not repairing I guess.

2. There was that woman in Mothership Zeta that could repair 100%. This makes me realize that they better have other people who can repair to a lesser extent, because she drained quite a few caps from me when I had nothing to repair my broken weapons and apparel, and I'd prefer to have the option between having an expensive, perfect repair done or a decent, cost efficient repair.

3. I remember I had a third point to make, but I forgot it while typing point two, but I'll edit this post if I can remember. Why did I even type up this point three if I don't have a third point anymore, and why don't I delete it? Are my thoughts automatically transferring to this text box? Hmm...

Edit: By the way, I suppose I am in favour of having highly skilled repair vendors.

Since repairing high-end weapons can get really expensive there is nothing wrong with haveing merchants that can do this. No, haveing such merchants will not make the repair skill useless since doing the repairs yourself will cost less cash, meaning less time needed farming said cash and more time haveing fun.

Having a high repair skill was very useful in making money in Fallout 3. You repair things in broken condition and sell the finished weapon/armor for quite a sum.

My gripe is that it was really hard to fully repair most of the unique items. That's why I loved alien epoxy.

Anyone can repair a weapon to full health now. I think high Repair characters repair more with each repair kit or duplicate though. Having a merchant repair to 100% is probably only going to be useful for weapons that you can't find a duplicate for yet.

I voted no because I feel that it detracts from the repair skill, but with repair kits I'm now not so sure if repair will be important in the context of repairing weapons anyway. Unless the kinds of ammo you can make using the repair skill are any good then I'll be fine with having the job of repairing weapons done by vendors.

I voted no because it shouldn't only be special NPCs that can repair to 100%. They've announced that the player will be able to repair to 100 from the start no matter his repair score. The NPCs should have this ability too. I'd like to see merchants have option for normal repair and for full repair. The normal would work like in fallout 3. The full repair would fully repair the item but the price would be multiplied by a factor that is greater the lower the NPCs repair skill. An NPC with a repair skill of 100 would full repair and regular repair at the same price while one with a low repair skill would charge a ton more for full repair because that NPC would need to use more resources to fully repair the item. The high cap amount for repairing expensive equipment combined with a even a measly 2x multiplier makes paying a vendor for full repair a little painful. Switch that multiplier to 5x and it'll really hurt. Repairing entirely broken power armor at a normally skilled vendor would probably take half the wealth a player accumulates in the course of the game.

I voted yes, but would prefer if it cost ALOT of money to get them fixed up that good.

One of the biggest problems with Fo3 was imbalance in the economy, caps were very easy to get and becoming super-wealthy was simple. With Oscuro on the Obsidian team I have more hope for New Vegas, but I suspect there will always be a need for things that take cash out of the economy. The cool stuff that we have to buy with caps, the more valuable caps will become and thus the more valuable everything else will be to scavenging and selling goods. I find the games are alot more fun when I'm struggling for caps versus when I'm a millionaire and there is no challenge to getting anything.

So 100% repair vendors that charge through the nose? Good thing.

With the change in the repair skill allowing anyone to get their weapons up to 100% at any skill level provided they have enough spares or repair kits to work with, I don't see any reason why not to have 100% repair vendors. It'll just be a matter of caps one way or the other (or other currencies).

I'll echo what has been said in numerous posts above me. 100% Repair should be available but only at higher level/quest based or faction based with high reputation.

The main reason I agree with the ability to repair items to 100% though a particular vendor is that not everyone is going to pick the repair skill in their character builds, and no one skill should be important above all others that it is a "must have" skill, since we can only realistically tag and raise a handful of skills in NV.

In other words, I want to be able to raise a Doctor/Diplomat/Unarmed type without having to rely on vendors that are stuck at 50% repair across the board like in FO3. That kind of repair should be saved for the backwater vendors. I want to be able to take my gear to a vendor and repair up to 75-90% in a major city and/or settlement and get up to 100% at one of the major factions once I have high reputation with them.

It won't invalidate the Repair skill, since you will be saving tons of caps repairing gear on your own and will have the convenience of being able to repair your gear in the field, even in the middle of a firefight, which is something that a character with low repair skill cannot do.

That's my 2 caps on the subject... :P

Yes, there should, but they should be very rare and you have to be very friendly with a faction to get the person

they should be ther because repair kits are not going to be common and if you find a vendor they will not be cheap so at least one guy in the wastes that maybe you have to save from mutants or something would be good or even make him a random encounter

I'm going to specialize in Repair so I don't have to be dependent on vendors to repair my things and I can repair on the run so my weapons and armor aren't hampering my ability to go out in the Mojave and have to make return trips to get things fixed.

I'm going to be my own personal 100% repair vendor. :tops:
