Maybe something related to climbing would be nice but do we really need an entire perk tree created just to be able to jump while running though?
I think part of the issue with climbing is really the inclusion of a third person camera. In first person, you can throw in some basic arm animations and I can buy that I'm climbing a cliff face. Toggle back into third person and it suddenly looks off and will require that much more time to properly implement. Considering Beth's animation skills, I don't really see it happening.
I miss Acrobatics too, but bringing back a skill mechanic to increase jumping ability will mean little unless the environment itself supports the mechanic.
In othe words, there would need to be rewards for having a high Acrobatics skill: More rooftops, windows or trapdoors you could enter (to bypass certain obstacles), cities with more buildings period.
That's really the problem. The loss of acrobatics, climbing, levitation. These are all simply products of lazier and lazier level design. Everything now is accessible by foot. There are no pits to leap across, no ledges to float to, no cliffs or buildings to climb. Everything is so tediously straightforward. There's barely even any multipath dungeons. This is crazy to me, because Beth is always talking about supporting the three main archetypes. But they don't. Almost every guild quest is exactly the same. Kill this, get this, explore this. Nothing really relies on any character specific trait. I can murder my way through half the thieves guild quests.
If Beth really wants to do justice to the various character types, they need to stop homogenizing everything and take some tips from Deus Ex: mutlipath solutions that take unique advantage of character strength.
