Acrobatics Skill Tree

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:55 am

I'd love to see some combo Acrobatics/Unarmed/Athletics/Unarmored skill.

The thing I can't figure, though, is how that perk tree would ever fit into the symmetrical constellations, where you have 6 skills for each birthsign. I doubt Bethesda would wreck that symmetry and throw a 7th skill into the Thief, e.g.

It's the same thing with the lycanthropy perk tree. Love to see it, but don't know how they'd make it fit.
Well, they can make spell combos from the GJ video become a skill of it's own, name it Spellcraft and put in Mage branch (even though I would prefer if Mysticism makes a return, but I really doubt that that will ever happen in Skyrim).
Unarmored (at least my version) could go in Thief branch.
All what is missing is a skill for Warrior branch (no, don't say unarmed or spears since those should go under OHW and THW skills respectively).

My Vision Acrobatic Tree

Jump while Sprinting

Jump 2x Higher

Defensive Jump to Left/Right Side

Defensive Back Flip

Jump 3x Higher

Attack while Jumping

Jump off of Water Surface

Jump 4x Higher
Does that sound good as a Acrobatic Skill Tree?

Jumping on water and jumping 4x normal height?
I thought that we were trying to keep this somewhat realistic.

Trust me man. 4x Jumping Height is not that much.............I used it on PC........It still is nothing like Oblivion or Morrowind.

I wouldn't mind a lot of those, but they'd have to work under certain conditions. You shouldn't be able to swing as fast with heavy armor like light armor or no armor.

And you shouldn't be able to roll in heavy armor either... or swim... but anyways.

I wouldn't mind jumping higher to a certain degree if you train. If I jump in heavy armor all the time, and then after a lot of training go to regular clothes I should be able to jump very high. Nothing unreasonable. And different races should jump higher.

I kind of like the idea, but i like not worrying with it in skyrim,
go jump in a pool with just your clothes on lets see how long you can make it... shoes and all... ITS JUST A VIDEO GAME!!!

All of those are solid. The only one that I think is already in the game is the stealth running. It's Muffled Movement in the stealth tree and I think the Muffle spell does the same thing. There is a dodge/roll but it's at a ridiculously high level on the sneak tree. It should be one of the first perks available but it's not.

P.S. I wanted to agree with whoever said their character feels like a ton of bricks. I don't care about my character doing moves like something out of a 1970s karate flick, but come on; at least make him able to climb over a rock that barely comes up to his waste. "I can slay dragons, but that rock... it's like 3 feet high! How will I ever get past it?"
To the P.S.=SCORE i hate that...

Maybe something related to climbing would be nice but do we really need an entire perk tree created just to be able to jump while running though?
I think part of the issue with climbing is really the inclusion of a third person camera. In first person, you can throw in some basic arm animations and I can buy that I'm climbing a cliff face. Toggle back into third person and it suddenly looks off and will require that much more time to properly implement. Considering Beth's animation skills, I don't really see it happening.
I miss Acrobatics too, but bringing back a skill mechanic to increase jumping ability will mean little unless the environment itself supports the mechanic.

In othe words, there would need to be rewards for having a high Acrobatics skill: More rooftops, windows or trapdoors you could enter (to bypass certain obstacles), cities with more buildings period.
That's really the problem. The loss of acrobatics, climbing, levitation. These are all simply products of lazier and lazier level design. Everything now is accessible by foot. There are no pits to leap across, no ledges to float to, no cliffs or buildings to climb. Everything is so tediously straightforward. There's barely even any multipath dungeons. This is crazy to me, because Beth is always talking about supporting the three main archetypes. But they don't. Almost every guild quest is exactly the same. Kill this, get this, explore this. Nothing really relies on any character specific trait. I can murder my way through half the thieves guild quests.

If Beth really wants to do justice to the various character types, they need to stop homogenizing everything and take some tips from Deus Ex: mutlipath solutions that take unique advantage of character strength.

I dont want it as it would force me to level up faster than I already do, I never pickpocket in this game anymore as it causes me to level up too quickly making the enemies tougher to kill while I stay at the same combat effectiveness :(
If acrobatics was present and counted towards levelling up I would feel obliged to no jump around as much.

yeah i wish they made it cooler rather than getting rid of it the roll was essential and the one from sneak isn't practical at all because you can only roll forward and you have to go into sneak first

It would be a perk tree or perk for Vampire and Werwolf....I have plenty of skills I NEVER even try to raise.

I missed the ability to dodge with high Acrobatics in Oblivion. I loved backflipping through town on the way to the market.
I've added that to the Perk Tree I created. I just wished the Devs will use it.

I missed rolling about Cyrodil in oblivion. Now we're stuck with this forward roll in Skyrim which looks a little wierd in 3rd person (Especially in a suit of armour).

I do agree that some kind of speed/athletic/acrobat skill should be reintroduced. One of the most furstrating things in a game is not being able to jump over things more than about half your height. Surely you should be able to scramble over things and stuff like that?
As for climbing surfaces it would be quite hard to animate in a fully 3d rendered world, unless your meaning climbing like something in Assasin's Creed or inFamous.

I feel you on that. I also hate that I can kill dragons, spit magic but my character cannot even jump over a dang cabbage cart

Does that sound good as a Acrobatic Skill Tree?
Yes. Hell It sounds better than some of the vanilla skill trees (lockpicking, pickpocket, speech).

I'm surprised noone has modded a athletic/acrobatic tree in yet.

Some NFL corner backs have a 40 inch vertical leap. I have a 4 inch vertical leap. 10x higher :).
