Admit it, mr. Howard, you were wrong

Remember telling in interview: "Honestly, I couldn't care less - having to wear those glasses! I'm not a 3D fan. It ruins the image for me"?
I really hope you'd try Skyrim in 3D like I did. With all the great mods that make it look ultra realistic, extreme graphic settings, perfect depth of Nvidia 3D Vision Technology and amazing HMZ-T1. Because vanilla Skyrim is just a beautiful game. Skyrim the way I saw it - portal to another world that looks as real as the one we used to.
Played about 30 hours of Skyrim in 3D and had more "holy [censored]" moments then in 20 years of my gaming experience.

The cost of 3d tv is still to high for it to become mainstream yet. Plus the current systems in place for creating it are gimmicky at best. Until there is a TV system that does real 3d without needing peripherals to look at the screen properly, it wont be mainstream.

Because of that, expecting games to feature 3d support is foolhardy at best.

This.

It looks amazing in 2D, and I personally believe that there's nothing special about 3D (and yes, I've watched plenty of modern 3D media). It's a gimmick, nothing more and a complete waste of money IMO.

I used a 3d tv at bestbuy. I could not See any form of difference. I see 3d as a gimmick a fade. Just like it was in when it was in theaters and on the Atari 2600.

I have a 3DTV and even though it is awsome to watch movies in 3D playing games isnt as much fun. Except for Uncharted 3 I havent seen one that doesn't look choppy in 3D.

Ive played Skyrim in 2D with the best graphics mods out there. It is nothing compared to 3D, sorry.
3D was a gimmick for a long time. With new technologies [censored] got real. Skyrim wont give you perfect 3D out of the box, like Trine 2 or Batman: AC. You have to put hours for all the twists and whistles. But after this it looks just insane

No 3d for me. The way my depth perception works its fooled by a 2d image but not by a 3d. So for example a long paneramic view of a castle looks like atiny castle and pulls me out of whatever I'm watching.

Way to just snipe the part of my post and just ignore everything else.

As I said before (though you'll probably just edit this out as well...), I've watched plenty of modern 3D media, and it's nothing but a gimmick. "... [censored] got real..." is a worthless statement. There's barely any noticeable effect except for eye strain. The modern 3D was brought back by a flagging movie industry, and now is simply a ridiculously overpriced option when going to the theater. Newer 3D televisions don't even have half of the effect that you would get in a theater, but yet it's supposed to be the "next big thing"...

Two years and "modern" 3D will be dead in the water. And then what will you do with that $2000 brick in your living room?

The money grubbers can keep their 3D, it's not what they advertise it to be anyway.

So, as a finishing note, don't be scared to use my whole post. But then, my entire post may just kill any argument that you have...

Alot of media currently use 3D and yes is just gimic using, although try a film that uses 3D as it should be used for depth projection and not just to throw things out of the screen at the viewer and you will be changed it is fantastic.

Yes it will be a couple of years before the mainstream start using 3D this way, but it is on its way and I for one cant wait

If its barely noticeable for you, its either something with your hardware or stereoscopic perception. Ive played about 30 games and watched even more movies on my HMZ-T1. Not everywhere 3D is perfect or even good. But where it works, its just amazing. Lots of iMAX documentaries - you feel like you're there. Games like Trine 2, Batman: AC, Dead Space 2, Bulletstorm, Witcher 2, Metro 2033... I basically cant play them now without 3D, its just brings another level of immersion. Although Skyrim is definetly my favourite 3D content atm. It blows my mind every time I play. I just wish the tech was cheaper so more people could experience this

As for the statement that its dead in the water in 2 years... i honestly think it is the future of gaming and in 10 years EVERYTHING, including games and movies with be played/watched in 3D only. More and more game devs support tech, so we'll see

The only 3D I've had experience with is the dodgy red & blue paper specs that went with aweful 3D horror movies in the 80's and the modern Buddy Holly specs that come with insanely overpriced cinema tickets.

I don't like 3D. It isn't to a point where I can enjoy it yet. Every movie I have seen in 3D has been far less fun than a good ol' normal 2d movie.

I think it's because it makes it VERY obvious that the effects are fake, so you loose that 'unreal magicalness' that modern movies have and it trashes the whole experience... I imagine that it would do the same for a game.

I likethe concept of 3d. I'll like it even more once the tech evolves but even now it's pretty solid. Just dying to try Skyrim in 3d.

They said that 20+ years ago as well... it died for over 15 years. it'll die again.

And there's nothing wrong with my perception. lmao The "modern" 3D doesn't look any better than the stuff from 20+ years ago when I was a kid. It's a crap gimmick, and is bound to fail and fall off of the radar again.

I flew COBRA attack choppers in the Marine Corps. Yeah, nothing wrong with my vision. ;)

I think the OP knows that. He's just bragging about his TV. It's like the first person on the street getting a mirco-wave oven telling everyone they can bake a potato in 5 minutes (ok, that might have been before your time...)

In my day it was the first person to own a betamax in the street showing off by having a "movie party". The 80's svcked.

Not everyone wants to join the Marine Club. I'll take my 3dtv anyday. If you haven't noticed a difference from 20 years ago to now, I'd say there is something wrong. I've used old 3d and new 3d and the old one is crap.

I'm not asking anyone to join the Marines, but I mentioned it since he speculated that part of the problem might be with my vision. Specifically with my depth perception. You can't have any problems in that area if you're going to pilot anything in the military. That's why I mentioned it.

But this "new" 3D will die off just like the old one did. It's only a matter of time.

Oh okay.

Yeah 3d will probably die down, but will probably be resurrected just like last time. Who knows, 3d could just be a stepping stone towards a better technology. We wouldn't have cellphones if not for the telephone.

Well, I dont know whats wrong there for you, but for me and many others 3D definetly makes huge difference. Read this post for example:
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=215465&view=findpost&p=1327183
And those expressions were on vanilla without all the new graphic mods..
