This thread started out good, OP was stating an opinion, and yada yada. As the thread went on, OP's posts became less and less his OPINION about Oblivion, and more about HOW HIS OPINIONS WERE FACT. He seems to be blinded by nostalgia, and hey, that's OKAY, most Morrowind [censored] are blinded by it too. But fact of the matter is, Oblivion, which may hold a special place in your heart, was NOT perfect, in fact it had a TON of issues with it. Let's get started with setting, outside of the boring and frozen north Cyrodil, and the slightly swampy south east, it was ROLLING HILLS OF GREEN, and endless trees. It was not very diverse at all. Skyrim had the rolling hills, open plains, large tundras, snowy and rocky mountains, a small archipelago, even a swamp, so in number of regions, it beats Obliv.
Secondly, the dungeons, don't get me started on the dungeons. There were 4 dungeon types, 5 if you count Oblivion planes (Alyeid Ruins, ruined fort, cave, and crypt), and once you've been in all 4, you've seen it all. Literally. Dungeons had the amount of variety Mass Effect "dungeons" had, aka none at all. Next off, we have the TERRIBLY broken leveling system, that not only had a huge impact on game play, but immersion. Unless you min-maxed yourself, you would most definately discover with each level you got WEAKER, instead of stronger. And don't get me started on immersion, level up a few times, and ALL OF A SUDDEN, every simple pick pocket and brigand was rolling in full daedric/glass armor, swinging mighty magic weapons. If you're a roleplayer like myself, you had to make up outrageous rp reasons why everyone and their mother suddenly was more decked out than a whole towns garrison. A common response I've seen to this major flaw is Obliv [censored] claiming, "you svck", or "you don't know how to play the game", and while the first reason is pure BS, the second does have a bit of validity. If you don't know how to exploit, tip toe around, and play a very certain way, you indeed "don't know how to play Oblivion."
Lastly, I can't really comment on celebrity voice acting and quality, as I'd rather have depth and text over voice acting; but skyrim DOES have a large cast of celebrity voice acting, more than Obliv. As far as story is concerned, TES has never really had a solid series of MQs, the draw is in how open ended they are.
