Updated to 12.4. Tried starting a new game (no mods). When i got off the wagon in the intro sequence the game froze. I couldnt ctrl-alt-del or do anything but do a hard reset. Have a 7970 and been playing fine for months. What a joke.

12.4 with latest CAP works fine for me, too. Until now I was using the 12.2 preview, that was the latest version that worked for me, but I am keeping 12.4 installed now :)

I use the same settings and resolution.

So you are getting a higher framerate compared to 12.1, 12.2, 12.3 with these same settings?
With the framerate cap on the FPS isn't higher of course, as I stay at 60 FPS 99.9% of the time. Somehow it does feel a tiny bit smoother though, so I'm happy with them.
I'm certainly not getting any of the quirks others here are nerdraging over.

12.4's working fine for me on my 6970, No improvement in fps over the 12.3's or 12.2 previews but seem to be stable.

I just tried AMD CCC 12.4 which said there was gfx bugfix for flickering boxes. I had 12.3 installed previously. It did not fix the flickering boxes (SkyUI?), and there was more flickering anomalies than 12.3. I tried rolling back the drivers and reinstalling, same results. See my sig below for system specs, it may be limited to Xfire, IDK. So I ended up rolling back the drivers to the CCC 12.3 driver (8.951.0.0, the new driver was 8.961), seems to be a bit more stable. I will continue to watch for a new driver that states Skyrim fixes. FYI.

12.4 was a joke on my system (3GB 7970). It crashed a new game of SKyrim in the intro sequence and I had all sorts of other graphical issues. April Fools Day was a while back, AMD.

There's a thread with more discussion on the 12.4 + 12.3 AMD drivers http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1368865-amd-driver-catalyst-discussion-merged-similar-topics/ already.

FWIW, I've http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1368865-amd-driver-catalyst-discussion-merged-similar-topics/page__view__findpost__p__20693695 12.4 with Skyrim pretty extensively on my system and have zero issues with my 6970. Zip. Nada. Well, some FPS drops in the "FPS kill zones" like that one random spot in Whiterun, up by Dragonreach, but I'm not 100% sure 12.4 caused those. My fault for not testing those more extensively earlier.

But definitely no crashes, system hangs, texture corruption or anything like that. Never had any issues other people reported with 12.3, either...I skipped 12.2. Now those drivers were junk.

I'm starting to wonder if it has something to do with how people are installing these drivers--I always, always scrub out the old driver set and then do a fresh install of the new ones, whereas I know a lot of people tend to just install over the old set. Either that or my GPU is powered by unicorns and fairy dust or something.

Edit: Although it's worth noting that the 12.4 set should be avoided if you have a 7850 (IIRC) and like to overclock it. Apparently AMD's gone and locked the clocks on that particular card with the 12.4 drivers to discourage overclocking. Why, I have no idea. But there you go.

With 12.4 had REALLY slow loading and REDUCED frame rate...downloading 12.5 to see if problems solved...

Does not work well with my system, either. Have completely removed all graphic drivers, re-installed with each from 12.2 pre, 12.3, 12.4 pre, 12.4 and 12.5 and for some reason still getting low fps. Get max fps after removing AMD files from Programs & Features in Control Panel but then there is no short cut to CCC panel. Sometimes load screen just is very slow but pressing ctrl alt del and then canceling that action provides faster loading. Previously on the above drivers had noticed large variations in fps day-to-day regardless of driver installed. Probably not going to waste any more time and hopefully in a couple of months AMD will resolve these driver issues much like they did with ...RAGE.

So this morning Cat started nagging me about needing to update to 12.4. I grabbed the package through the Cat control center, executed it, reboot... Cat version shows 12.3 in the control center.

Hmm, I said, manually uninstalled, rebooted, ran driver cleaner, checked Programs and Features, nothing there, fired up the installer, it runs fine... reboot, back to Control Center... BOOM SHAKA it's still 12.3.

Tried it again... pretty much uninstalled/reinstalled everything 12.3 times and it's still showing 12.3 and nagging for an update. I tried everything at this point short of sacrificing a chicken and dancing around with a tamtam. Tried downloading directly from ATI site and from the control center too, NOT A DAMN THING CHANGES, 12.3 is still there loud and proud.

How the heck do I update? Does anyone else have this problem?

Yep, same here. Googling finds many other reports of the same issue.

I uninstalled my current drivers and ran driver sweeper as usual, and when I installed 12.4 CCC told me I had 11.something instead!

I had the same issue, updated a few times and it remained 12.1 in my case.

However, I was able to finally update to 12.4 by selecting one of the alternate options from the update dialogue box, like visit website or something. Can't recall which option I selected that finally worked and the 12.4 catalyst UI is a bit different, with no "check for updates" menu, so I can't pull it up again to confirm.

I stopped using driver sweeper programs back around Catalyst 10.1 or 11.1 when I was informed that we no longer need to go through that laborious process. Since then I have always updated directly through the Catalyst Control Center, without uninstalling anything or doing driver sweeps. Haven't had any issues with AMD driver versions not installing properly for the past few years until now.

Go to Device Manager in Control Panel and uninstall existing "display" driver(s) and gpu(s) THEN install new driver.

I tried both installing via the "download now" button from the update dialogue box, and also by the "visit download page" option and manually downloading 12.4 and installing - neither worked for me.

(The version for my 64bit Win7 set-up that I downloaded and tried installing was called "12-4_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe").

Yes, I know exactly what you're talking about, I tried "download now" and "visit webpage" options, same result.

Here's the kicker: when I try ATI's own "autodetect drivers" doohickey, it told me that I already had the best driver for the device. When I tried to manually update the driver from device manager (right click on device, update driver, and selected the folder that contained the newly downloaded 12.4 drivers), Windows also informed me that the driver is up to date. Also, Driver Details shows that the driver was released on 04/05/2012, which is definitely more recent than 12.3.

So maybe it's the installer for CCC that is buggered?

Nope, that didn't work either.

Perhaps it was one of the options during install that finally worked for me, like selecting Custom Install instead of Express?

I tried a few times like you, unsuccessfully; however, after selecting one of these options differently, it finally installed 12.4 correctly.

I tried Custom Install as well! Maybe you just got lucky!

I suppose the real question I should ask you is: have you seen any noticable improvements with 12.4 (over 12.2) for Skyrim?

Custom didn't do it for me either.

[censored] it, servers me right for going with ATI. Never had these issues with NVIDIA.

I had issues with nVidia many years ago and swore I'd never buy again - but since I've been with ATI each card has had progressively more issues, and at the same time I seem to see less and less complaints online about nVidia.

I went from 12.1 to 12.4 - haven't noticed any significant improvements, but I haven't been playing much yet, just testing some mods.

Never tried 12.2 or 12.3

I've had fairly decent, consistent frame rate at 1080p since installing the game, with a slight improvement in frame rate following Patch 1.4 and 1.5, regardless of the AMD driver version. Never experienced artifacting, only some purple textures after long playing sessions back in November, but this was fixed with Patch 1.1 or 1.2.

Custom didn't do it for me either.

Are there any other options in the install menu or update dialog box?

I'm pretty sure it was some option I selected differently that finally resulted in correct installation. A different window appeared IIRC.

Or perhaps it might have been that I had MSI Afterburner running in the background the first few times?

Please list what card you use as well....thanks sorry for the offtopic just want the best driver for BF3 that still runs Skyrim in my down time.

Well now I've noticed since my last that I still get the gfx flash glitches W/12.3 (8.951.0.0) just like 12.4 (8.961.0.0). My dual 5850s were actually almost as fast as my dual 7870s which need the new drivers and thus the glitches. Never had these glitches W/5850s and the 11.x driver, and now my wife has the 5850s and runs without the flash glitches W/12.3! Seems like my flash glitches are related to the 7800 series (in Xfire config).
