Nope, that didn't work either.

You would now NOT have ANY drivers and Windows would install ANY version drivers you gave it!

I tested 12.4 for a few hours today and it seems to be running great. Not sure if there is any significant frame rate difference from 12.1, but I haven't noticed any microstutter, even without using any frame rate limiter program.

Still hoping that someone would work out the update issue. I feel like I'm missing some kind of double-secret inverted quaterway-upside-down handshake that I'm supposed to perform in order for the update to take. It's driving me absolutely nuts to be sure.

I agree completely haha. I wish AMD made things easier to update.

I'd like to know how you enable http://benchmark3d.com/mlaa-2-0-performance-and-image-quality-review

there is supposed to be some kind of option that looks like http://benchmark3d.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/MLAA-2.0-Settings.jpg, but my menu options look like this: http://i.imgur.com/sck95.jpg http://i.imgur.com/WFRNF.jpg

Looks like you don't have 12.4 version, because I can clearly see Morphological filtering checkbox above Anti-Aliasing slider. Is it option you're looking for? To be honest I'm a bit lost among all these different AA variants. I also don't see much difference and don't know what the fuss is about. :pinch:

I am HATE AMD right now. I have done everything I can to try and get things back to the way they were with 12.3. After updating to 12.4 my FPS took a huge hit so I did my usual uninstall and driver sweeper of all things AMD. Restarted and installed the 12.3 drivers... FPS is still low. No changes made to my ini files, no extra mods, nothing.... So I tried getting rid of 12.3 and doing the beta 12.5... same FPS. So got rid of that garbage and tried installing drivers from disc then installing the 12.3 again because someone said it would help... nope. So now I bit the bullet and just went back to 12.4 because someone said it worked well with the SMAA injector... nope, same exact FPS.

Anyone got any suggestions? Keep in mind I have been using driver sweeper each and every time I get rid of drivers.

This is how I made it back to 12.3 from 12.4. Note that if you are using AMD motherboard or have some other AMD drivers this could cause major issues.

1. Uninstall everything related to CCC using the Control Panel's "Programs and Features"
2. Reboot machine
3. Delete the AMD folder in C:\
4. Delete all ATI and AMD related folders in C:\Program FIles and C:\Program Files (x86)
5. Reboot again
6. Install the older CCC version.

I also had some issues left when I first did only the "normal" uninstall. This longer routine worked well for me.

It sounds like your Xfire is disabled, but I can't tell, you don't list your sys specs.

I keep my Xfire disabled at all times. It blows. It is absolutely pointless. I get worse FPS with it on then with it off.

Did all that now Skyrim wont launch.

*EDIT* Eff if. Re-installing this piece of garbage AGAIN!!! This game and my GPU are going to give me giant stress induced tumors.

*UPDATE* Well... that didn't work. I want to [naughty word]ing scream!!! Will not open. For some weird reason I just got "Steam - Error: This game is currently unavailable. Please try again another time.". WTF IS THAT?!

It's definitely the 12.4 version http://i.imgur.com/SLA1H.jpg

Maybe you have to do something with Application Profiles in order to enable MLAA?

Well... 12.3 breaks Skyrim now for some crackhead reason. So now after a ton of work, I am right back to these nasty 12.4 drivers. I wish a 60 ton middle finger would drop out of the sky and land on the ATI/AMD building.

well I know some of you already know this, but FYI when I turned off Xfire all my flickering glitches and microstutter went away. However, it was not completely without compromise: I noticed in a couple of places the rendering was unusually dark, then it brightened up quickly and gradually for no apparent reason. Many ppl prob would not even notice it. Also, now the clouds now look more realistic, like I am looking at the real thing. I have not seen a performance drop yet either.

Have you tried to remove and recreate the skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini in the My Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder?

And as I mentioned it could cause major issues if you have other AMD components installed. You can check if some drivers are missing by opening the Window's Control Panel / System / Device Manager. There shouldn't be any marks in front of the devices in that list.

"This game is currently unavailable" is a Steam problem (screw you, Steam), not a driver problem.

I had it happen several times with Space Marine.

Have you tried verifying the cache?

question for ya, does driver sweeper clean the registry? if not run ccleaner, thats all i ever do....and auslogic defrag.

I had some time and made some tests with different Catalyst versions. Here are the results:

Catalyst 12.3: In Whiterun 60 fps.
Installed 12.4 via CCC because it's not available at AMD's home page: In Whiterun 15 fps.
Uninstalled everything and tested with Win7 drivers: In Whiterun 60 fps.
Googled and loaded the 12.4 driver separately. Installed wtihout any previous drivers: In Whiterun 15 fps.
Uninstalled everything and tested with Win7 drivers: In Whiterun 60 fps.
Googled and loaded the 12.5 Beta driver. Installed wtihout any previous drivers: In Whiterun 15 fps.
Uninstalled everything and tested with Win7 drivers: In Whiterun 60 fps.
Reinstalled Catalyst 12.3: In Whiterun 60 fps.

I also noticed that 12.4 and 12.5 Beta showed in CCC as 12.3 no matter how thoroughly I removed everything related to AMD or ATI. So I'll stay now in 12.3 because those newer drivers have something really badly wrong.

My specs:
Intel i7-2600 (overclocked to 4,2 GHz)
Dual Radeon HD 6950 with CrossFireX enabled
16 GB memory installed.

For the folks trying to upgrade to 12.4 via the CCC and running into problems: what happens if you follow the method I described http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1368865-amd-driver-catalyst-discussion-merged-similar-topics/page__view__findpost__p__20693695? That is: express uninstall (ONLY if you don't have an AMD-based CPU) your older drivers via the Catalyst Install Manager (found via Control Panel -> Uninstall a Program), reboot, install the new drivers--downloaded from AMD's site, then finally reboot again? (I always pick the express install option, FWIW.)

I have never had a driver install fail with this method. Not once. Also it's worth noting that when I installed 12.4 using this method, I haven't had any performance issues in Skyrim (or any other game I've tried), the CCC correctly reports my driver version as 12.4, and I have the "Morphological filtering" tickybox in my CCC settings. So basically 12.4 is working as intended for me.

Be sure to go to Control Panel/Device Manager/Display adapters/(video card)/Driver to double check installation or removal.

I suggest using the latest 12.4's for your build, As far as asking us if it will run ok then we cannot tell you that.
Are you using Intel or AMD as a base?(CPU/MOBO)

You hear mixed things about both AMD and Nvidia's drivers, honestly. One day it's AMD is terrible, next day it's Nvidia. FWIW I've yet to have a bad driver...although it's also worth pointing out that I skipped 12.2 for a reason. :P

Anyway. Since you're getting the 7850, are you planning on overclocking it at all? If so I wouldn't recommend 12.4, since AMD for whatever reason (accidentally or not) locked the clocks on that particular card with the 12.4s. So you can't overclock it without some third party trickery, I believe.

If that's the case, or if you find that performance just isn't where it should be for your system, 12.3 is another good choice. If you go much further back you'll run into drivers that won't play well with 7xxx series cards, but 12.3 should be all right.
