GoTY awards are useless, because everyone and their mother is allowed to give one.

Sure, you, me and the next guy can have our personal GOTY and it changes nothing.

But when a specialized and well respected magazine picks their game, it's a different story.

A wee bit of a fan induced white lie in that article about the magic. Magic hasnt been improved from Oblivion, in fact it can easily be argued that its been gutted since Oblivion and no longer as effective as weaponry combat. However, most of the other points noted are similar to my own thoughts.

Loved this part. Thanks for the link. :)

"But it was, and every time Bethesda jump a bit closer to achieving that dream game, that incredible feeling of freedom hits me again. Every time they give us a new world to explore that way, my brain buzzes at the possibilities. Skyrim makes such huge improvements to the magic, the stealth, the characters and the landscape that they all feel real again, and the immersion is complete.

It won’t stay fresh forever. But when Bethesda release a game that makes Skyrim feel clunky and barren, we’re all in quite a lot of trouble."

GOTY awards are great marketing for the company. All that matters is what you think of the game.

PC Gamer is well respected?

They wouldn't be on the market since 1993 if they weren't.

To be fair it means more from publications/sites like PG Gamer, Gamespot and IGN.

Skyrim has recieved more than half of the big GotY awards, as well as [censored]loads of awesome reviews. Yeah, I know you prefer SS, Obsidian is awesome and Morrowind was way better, but you still gotta deal with It.

yep, like Modern Warfare 3. it's sad that awards are given to games with no innovation and small improvements, sorry but Skyrim and MW3 fall into both of those categories. I'm sad that PC gamer even called Skyrim a PC game.

You know if PS3 magazines give Skyrim game of the year, you know they have been paid off.

GoTY awards from magazines don't mean anything. How many PS3 magazines praised the game as though it were the Second Advent, despite the huge mess that it actually was? There likely isn't a single magazine out there that actually gives good, unbiased reviews of games like Skyrim. It was immensely popular because of casual gamers finally jumping in on it, and no magazine in their right mind would give unfavorable reviews of a game like that. It would end up destroying their reputation.

The guy above me is right on. MW3 is just like Black Ops is just like MW2 is just like WaW is just like MW. It's the same game with different maps and weapons, yet people treat it like an Apple product (which are essentially the same thing, but that's for another day).

Oh please you haters thought a business magazine (Forbes) giving Skyrim a poor review was somehow the most prescient and insightful article of the century. Now a REAL gaming magazine that has been in publication for almost 20 years gives Skyrim GOTY and it "means nothing" and is "fan induced"

Just so everyone can see your hypocrisy:

IGN = PC/RPG top game, lame who cares, means nothing, paid off, yadda yadda yadda
PCGAMER = GOTY, So what, means nothing, respected magazine?

Forbes = Skyrim svcks.. OMG spot on, best review evah eleventy 11!!, See a credible magazine says it svcks.

You guys are idiots, crawl back to your hole. IGN and PCGAMER carry infinitely more weight and respectability when it comes to game reviews. I want to invest in a business I read Forbes, I want game reviews I read IGN/PCGAMER. You can't parse it both ways to your advantage, that is the mentality of a 5 year old.

So what? The EDGE gave The Witcher 2 6/10 and they can get away with it since they hate RPG games and that's no way you should review a game with that sort of so called "respect" and weight.

I'm not saying it doesn't deserve GoTY, I'm playing it and loving every second. I just get bugged by the fact that everyone makes such a big deal out of it when there are dozens of magazines and websites that give them out, and what's more there are a ton of games that were also very well made and very fun that released this year but the only ones any publication pays attention to for GoTY are the ones that release in the holiday shopping season.

BTW, MW3 has gotten no GotY awards that I'm aware of, maybe a "best shooter" somewhere, but to be fair was either that or BF3, which is pretty much the same game with a different cover.

I don't really care if PC Gamer said Skyrim is GOTY. To me, Skyrim is GOTY and this is what really matters. ;)

Another GOTY award

Shouldn't there only be one GAME of the year award?

I almost feel bad Skyrim is stealing so many GOTYs from Arkham City. Arkham definitely does a lot of things well in places sorely lacking in Skyrim - animations and combat namely - and probably would've been a no brainer GOTY if it weren't for Skyrim competing. But... Arkham City has GFWL which is horrible and needs to DIAF so it's okay.

Why? everyone gives their own, just like there are Oscars and Golden Globes, as well as hundreds of lesser awards.

Love the Trolls dismissing another GOTY award win.

Skyrim is awesome and deserves it's GOTY awards.

Not trolling, just saying it it doesn't deserve PC game of the year because of the state of it's release on the PC. It seems to me that none of this was even taken into account either that or PC Gamer enjoyed their technically broken version of Skyrim.
