Any other console Gamers feeling left out?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:18 pm

This. ^

I wish Bethesda would select some of the coolest ones, 'certify' them and then release them as DLC packs for a few bucks each. The main problem with this (for me - I know the main problem with most everyone else would be charging money for them) is that the cool 'trashy' ones would never be approved/certified by Bethesda.

And do the original authors get compensated for their work?

The real trick here is, Don't buy a beth game when it first comes out. Wait a year (console) for the bugs to get worked out. More like two years on PC, so there will be mods that address aspects of the game that just plain svck.

Do they now? They do it for the 'show-off' factor. I'm sure most of them would be fine with a credit flash screen and being able to add it to their resume.

I wouldn't be surprised if gamesas legally owns any content created with/for their intellectual property.

That's usually how it works for things like the Creation Kit. Usually there is a clause that states that you agree that they own it either by clicking the box, or with the first time that you use it.

I think it's where the glow remains after you've plucked them. :nuke:

Ever been to the PC section of this forum?? Screwing with the game seems to lead to nightmare-ish scenarios where you can't even play the game.

I'm so glad I don't have the ability to completely screw everything up.

You're confusing two issues. You're talking about user-created mods, distributed free to the community. The post you quoted was talking about Bethesda releasing user-created mods in their own name for a profit.

If Bethesda ever asked me if they could release one of my mods you'd better believe I am going to ask, "How much am I getting out of this?" If Bethesda says "Nothing," my answer is likely to be, "Then you do not have my permission to release it."

Which introduces the point slooma_fiend brought up. In the EULA for all of Bethesda's editors there is a clause stating that anything created with that software belongs to Bethesda. They have gone further on several occasions and have stated that anything created with any software is legally under their control, if it was designed to run with one of their games. Some people say these statements aren't legally binding, but until one of us actually takes them to court to prove or disprove it, Bethesda's word is as good as law.

I don't. Couldn't really care less about mods and although being able to fix issues myself would be nice it has never bugged me enough to want to get the game for computer. Most of the times I have tried to play games on computer anyways have been a pain in the butt, errors for different reasons and things like that. In my 23 years of gaming on consoles I have only had a bad Xbox once.

Well, Bethesda isn't gonna' do anything for free. I never mentioned Bethesda taking credit for them - hence the "flash screen" (I actually meant "splash" screen). As for paying I meant something reasonable like $3 for a 10 mod pack.

So, what's the big deal with this "Atomic Nirnroot" craze? Why are so many people acting like the game is unplayable because of it? It glows, whoopie! That won't stop me from enjoying my game.

It's mostly an annoyance. Mostly. Not only does the glow stay after you pick the plant, another glow is added each respawn cycle whether you picked the nirnroot or not. Aside from the stupid bright glow, it's contributing to save game bloat which eventually causes long load times and eventually, crashing. Why they haven't fixed this yet is a mystery. A modder found a work around in December or January so it can't be an insurmountable problem.

if you get it and play long enough on the same character, than yes, it will stop you from enjoying the game on that specific character, because after slowing down your loading in that cell at first, it will start to cause the game to crash every time it loads.

As a primarily console player these days I don't feel left out with all the patches Bethesda has done (quite a costly thing to do as I understand it) I think they've made a lot of effort.
I am disapointed and often frustrated with the amount of bugs and glitches I run into I've never owned a game that has so many problems as I've encountered in Skyrim.

I think they could be a little bit better on communicating what they're working on when it comes to patches, but as long as they haven't actually stopped making them yet I'm not too bothered.

As a PS3 owner, I am a little upset that both PC and Xbox360 are getting exclusive things to them. I'm okay with the mods not coming to consoles because that's a logistics and legal nightmare, but the Kinect exclusivity thing rubs me the wrong way.

I knew Microsoft made a deal to have DLC be exclusive to them for a month, but suddenly they're getting exclusive content. If this had been announced before launch I could say I knew what I was getting into, but to say the deal was such and such and suddenly change it after I've already bought the game doesn't seem fair.
I have a pc and xbox, but what is so bad about xbox getting the kinect. I don't have it and a lot of other xbox players don't have it so you can't bunch everyone into the same category and say it's bad for ps3 players when most xbox players don't have access to it. Think about it to even get kinect they have to pay £99 for something the majority of games don't utilise.

Code? I'm not at all sure what you're talking about. Could you rephrase that to be more clear? None of us - not even modders - look through code. The closest we come to code is scripts, which is not quite the same thing.

Also, buying a PC to play games on is a waste of money to me, I have no other need for them. Plus it sounds far too confusing
You don't need a PC for email or any other function? To me, having a dumb computer sitting around that will only play games is the waste of money. But I use the PC for other things besides gaming. And it's not all that confusing- you tell your computer guy or Dell customer support that you want a gaming PC, then you keep your drivers up to date- most of them will do this automatically for you.
