Anyone else not using Shouts?

I use the Ethereal one because I like to jump off of high ledges and not take damage. Its fun to jump off the throat of the world.

I haven't used shouts on any of my characters, until now. Actually role-playing as the Dragonborn adds some depth to the game, and it's a lot of fun to send Imperial soldiers off into the sunset.

It seems shouts are severly under utilized. There's complaing about missing drain, damage, etc. magic stuff (and I agree with these complaints) but when you collect lots of dragon words you can gain a real advantage over the world. So while some things are missing, the shouts can be useful if used properly

I just forget to use shouts. Same with racial abilities. It seems seems I can kill whatever I'm fighting the 'old fashioned way' quicker than using shouts and other nonsense.

My "Jack-of-all" uses them, but then I was just getting the feel for the game.

My blacksmith (current proffesion, he's a retired Legionnaire) doesn't use them yet, but he will at some point.

My Mage doesn't use them either, and won't for a while yet.

My thief is likely to never use them.

I don't use shouts. The primary reason is because I just don't think about them during combat. My archery's at 100 and my sneak's at 97. With these two, there's really no need for shouts. One-hit kills for the guarding creatures and maybe 5 for the final "boss".

It's like picking strawberries. These things don't have a chance with my awesome skills.

Magic's for wusses who don't want to get blood on their robes. ;)

We must remember that the shouts are to be used only for the glory of the gods, not that of man, lest we become Ulfric and shame our master's teachings. I use them to defeat the Dragons.

My last 3 characters have avoided the main quest altogether, so no shouts here. I do collect the words though.

I have wondered about this...If you don't talk to the Jarl of Whiterun and don't give the mage the Dragonstone, the MQ doesn't start, right? So that means no dragons, right? But do you still absorb the words from the walls? I'm wondering if I can collect the words and then start the MQ later in the game, start getting dragon souls, and unlock the words at that point. Does it work that way?

On my last two characters, they've not even entered Whiterun. My mage went straight to Winterhold and my thief straight to Riften. You do still acquire the word from the word walls, though without the souls they are useless. I can't say if it does work that way, though, as I am yet to try it out, though it would make sense that you can do it like that.

I think you can still get the words without starting the MQ, because you can learn "Fus" in Bleak Falls Barrow if you're just retrieving the golden claw.

I use shouts, but only to call in Odahviing when fighting DD's dragons, because it's awesome.

Shouts are awesome, and it's free. There is really no downside to using it. There are lots of cool tricks you can do with shouts. If you give it a thought and incorporate into your game, the game will be more fun.

Have not used them yet because they really do not fit my main character. Not putting them down. I will eventually make a character for whom they make sense. However, on the three toons hat I have stood up to date they really seem out of place.

The damage ones? No, only on unfortunate little animals that stray into my path when I'm annoyed.

However, marked for death, aura whisper, slow time, whirlwind sprint, unrelenting force, ice form and become ethereal are very very useful tools to have in your back pocket.

Storm call and clear skies are fun too :D

EDIT: oh yeah, I forgot. I read about how a quick Fus can be invaluable when butterfly catching on here. Hats off to whoever revealed that to me, it never gets old :D

Like a surprising amount of people here, i don't do the quest to get it, i prefer a 'normal' character

Shouts and the rest of the Dragonborn shtick hold no appeal for me. Did the main quest once some five months ago and really have no desire to do it again.

I always forget to use them in battle, somehow. I do use fusrodah for entertainment purposes though, like shouting poor goats off the throat of the world.

I dont use them because I want to play as a "normal" character. If you fire one shout at someone then most likely they're going to die right there so I think its too overpowered. Also it makes the game alot more interesting because Im forced to adapt to certain situations like facing an overwhelming number of enemies and having to use strategic ground.
On master fire breath barely scratches enemies health.

On Master, everything does half the damage. Attacks doing less damage and enemies doing more damage to you is entirely expected. In fact, that's exactly the reason one plays on Master difficulty. If you are playing on master with 600 damage bow, your game is same as playing on adept with a 300 damage bow.

A lot of them are useless. I mainly use ice form to stop tougher enemies while a group is attacking.

I usually don't find myself using them, but that's because shouts are more of a novelty than an active gameplay mechanic, which is a shame, because they could have had a lot of potential.

I only use a few on each character, but different ones for each person. I think they're great and diverse and awesome.

I've talked to the Jarl and given the stone, and still have yet to have a single dragon ahow up. I stated this many times on the forums... as long as you do not go to the watchtower (don't get close enough to it so that the map marker shows up) and fight that first dragon, you will never see a (live) dragon in your game. I've tried and tested this method on three characters in a row, and have yet to have a dragon show up in game until I choose to actually fight that first dragon. This does, unfortunately have the effect of having an unfinished quest hanging in your journal, and you won't be getting Lydia as your Houseguest until you complete the quest...but having Lydia nowhere near you is a plus in my book...unless she's with you at Boethia's Shrine

As for the word walls, I've been able to learn the words, but until I actually start seeing (and killing) dragons in game, I will never be able to use shouts

I use fade, brilliant for surviving really long falls and really fun to go jumping off of mountains with. I also use dragonrend. Whirlwind sprint as well to reach certain areas. That's about it. I use unrelenting force to shout at the top of the tower in High Hrothgar like the other greybeards, just for fun really.
