Anyone else not using Shouts?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 2:16 pm

I keep seeing people here saying how awesome Shouts are, but on all my characters (I keep making and remaking because I'm not happy with my perk points, Ever) I've only ever used that initial shout after killing that first dragon, then never bother using them again.

So am I the only one that Never uses them?

Some of ny characters do not use them because I have no desire for thwm to go thread the main quest or fight dragons.

I dont use them because I want to play as a "normal" character. If you fire one shout at someone then most likely they're going to die right there so I think its too overpowered. Also it makes the game alot more interesting because Im forced to adapt to certain situations like facing an overwhelming number of enemies and having to use strategic ground.

I don't use Shouts... My character are mage, and he don't need any other "magicial" Shouts. But I collect a Words for fun.

Sometimes in these games its fun to have a character that completely ignores the main quest and is "normal" as tar as TES goes anyways but what is normal. O.o

Count me in. Outside of the MQ, I only use clear sky because the snow storms tends to become annoying after a while.

I don't do MQ, so I guess shouts are not an option.

All of my main-quest characters use them, although some less than others. I personally love them, and I daresay this is one of those rare things where my opinion affects my character's opinions ;)

At some point most of them become weak and useless.

My last 3 characters have avoided the main quest altogether, so no shouts here. I do collect the words though.

Shouts can be very useful but you have to use them a lot to think about the right shout. Examples:

I was wandering around Windhelm and saw three frost trolls and some bandits. Although I'm a powerful level 45 warrior, playing at Expert can be very dangerous when encountering multiple strong foes. So I used the shout animal allegiance to befriend the frost trolls that killed the bandits for me. After a while 2 frost trolls were left and all bandits were gone. Because the animal allegiance spell was still active the frost trolls were docil and I could kill them without them fighting back.

Fus ro dah is very useful on ledges because when you shout a bunch of enemies down most of them will die from fall damage.

Marked for death is usable on multiple opponents. Combined with two handed sweep strikes gives a good chane against multiple foes

Slow time when fighting dragons so you can easily navigate to the side and get a few extra hits before they fly away

And lots more strategic advantage can be achieved with shouts, but you have to use them to see their usefulness

Not sure what is so useless about them.

Fus Roh Dah is a perfect life saver if you are surrounded, Whirlwind sprint to close gaps, Mark of Death on enemies that just do not die, and I'm starting to love the befriend animals shout so I'm not bothered by random bears.

What irks me is that it's a PITA to select one and equip it in the middle of a fight. I know it freezes combat while you do it but it's still several buttons just to effectively change weapons.

Some of my characters use them.
Slow Time is very useful for my fire mage.

Others don't even realize the word walls have any power because they are not the dragonborn.

No MQ, no Dragons...no shouts. That my usual approach to the game. Even when I trigger Dragons, it is because I want my character to face Dragons not to use shouts.

I rarely use Shouts. The only one I use is Elemental Fury, otherwise I see little point in using them.

I tend to play for a long time before I even learn a single shout and even after I have learned them I rarely use them.

I use them in these cases:
I am in trouble and need to use one.
I am assaulting a CW fort and have Storm Call available to speed things up.

Only my first character that actually followed the Dragonborn quest line uses shouts. The shout ability hasn't fit any of my other characters so they don't even go as far as to take out the dragon at the Western Watchtower.

Personally, I think Shouts are one of the silliest combat mechanics I've eve seen in a video game. I kept thinking my character belched and people were staggering from the effects of his bad breath. To me it was the opposite of heroic. It looked unintentionally funny.

I used this one the most of all. Which was a rather limited selection, for me, to start with.

I'm not sold on the whole Dragon born story myself. I have tried using the shouts, but they dont do much for me. So i dont use shouts at any time really, other then when required to get the MQ out the way.
