Anyone else play with music off?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:30 am

I turned off the music completely, and left everything else default. I haven't gone back. It's awesome to just listen to the wind in the trees and the waves on the ocean. You can also hear enemy footsteps from a long ways off. It also got anoying to me to have the music blasting over conversation so I couldn't even hear what people were saying. I would recommend this to anyone who hasn't tried it.

I do, exactly like you. For me it`s very personal. In reality you don`t have music magically following you around. It`s just a thing I do and to be honest, I thought I was the only one.

I had a friend come by to watch and I put the music on just for her benefit, but only because someone else was there.

I might try this when I play today. I've never really thought about it.

The music blends in with the environment so well that I sometimes don't know if there is any music playing at all.

I actually increased the default music volume because you could hardly hear it. Good music in this game.

Sure you could play it without it. Less epic though.

I thing I don't like is that sound you get from discovering locations and leveling a skill is treated as music and not a sound effect, but other then that it's pretty epic to just listen to the environment. It's actually pretty amazing at some of the sound effects in this game that you never hear because the music drowns it out.

in elder scrolls games i do eventually turn the music off so i can actually be surprised by enemy appearences and hear the actual sounds of the game without an invisible orchestra blaring in my ear but turning off the compass was a day 1 necessity i do not want or need to know exactly when i am going to run into an enemy or discover a location.

Actually, I usually turn off the music in every game but this is the first game where I haven't turned it off - I love it.

I'll give it a shot, but I have been so impressed with the score.

Actually, I'm disappointed. The music in MW and OB were great, a lot of times I just parked my character in a spot and listened to the melody. However, Skyrim music got repetitive and boring really fast. It seems my ears just won't pick up these tunes so I muted music and listen to Morrowind soundtracks on my MP3 while playing.

Even better to hear those things with amazing, beautiful music.

I turned off the music in Oblivion because it was so damn annoying. It freaked me out that a calm piece of music was interrupted because a mudcrab attacked me.

Since Skyrim does not have this problem as badly as Oblivion I can finally leave the music on :D

But I will turn if off eventually, playing without music has a certain kind of charm.

To be honest, I might try this. Just hearing the sounds of nature and dungeons might add to realism and the general ambiance of the game. Anyone experience this?

I used to play Morrowind like this. I might try it with Skyrim soon, although I do love the music.

I don't like knowing exactly when i'm getting into fights, and I like having the ambient noises more in focus.

Done this with every TES game i've played.

I'm also just not blown away by the music, I have more simplistic, minimal tastes when it comes to classical music and scores. To me Jeremy Soule is very John Williams -esque, can't deny that it's great, but it's way too swelling and romantic sounding for my tastes.

So in reality Dragons fly around and you can shoot magic firebals and wave a big sword without anyone stopping you?

The music is the first to go. I always turn the music down to half volume and the sound effects down to three quarters on the sliders. I can still hear it but it is low enough that I only hear it if there's nothing else playing.

I too like to hear the environmental effects over the music, but absolute quiet other than the wind is too much like being alone in the world so I don't turn it off completely.

I love the sounds of the frogs in the marshes.

i play most games with music off. i played for the first day with the music on so that i could hear them and some of the songs are awesome. however, its much more immersive with the music off and also after while i get sick of hearing any song over and over and over.
