Are there any games which could potentially beat skyrim?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:09 pm

besides minecraft are their any games being released this year that could potentially replace skyrim as your first pick?

don't understand why you say "besides minecraft"

skyrim is a continuation of the elder scrolls we have been waiting on for five years. Meanwhile, I have zero interest in minecraft

you can't scratch that Elder Scrolls itch without an elders scrolls game.

this year has an unusually large number of great games being released. Deus EX Human Resources, Witcher 2, NOT Mass Effect 3, Battlefield 3 etc. besides minecraft are their any games being released this year that could potentially replace skyrim as your first pick?

for me so far there is pretty much just Deus Ex.

not talking about sales figures just your personal preference for games.

Minecraft? Bahahahahahha

While Skyrim is definitely on my top 5 for the year, it is actually pretty low on the list. My biggest game this year is actually Deus Ex. Aside from that, I am awaiting both the Witcher 2 and Rage a bit more. Skyrim falls just before Battle Field 3. So yeah, for me there is a couple.

ah crap how did i miss RAGE

I don't get this hype about Minecraft, I tried it for an hour or so, I personally think it pretty much svcks, not because of the graphics, I think it's ****ing boring, and it will NEVER ever get close to ANY other game, not to mention Elder Scrolls... It couldn't even compete with Robot Unicorn Attack :D IMHO

I can't wait for Fable 3, Witcher 2, Mechwarrior 5, but the best of the best, is TES V :)

Minecraft, what the hell?

I really can't see what people like in the witcher series, the first mostly seemed like "Ye old Swinger" due to the fact the main point in the game was just to get lucky with all the ladies and kill some generic badies.

You must have played some other game and mistaken it for The Witcher.

The Witcher 2 and Deus Ex are at the top of my list. Mass Effect 3 was as well, but luckily it has been pushed back. Not that interested in Skyrim actually, but if I have money to spare this November I'll check it out.

Deus Ex HR, if it's as good as the first one (unlikely), which I consider the best game along with Morrowind.

If Deus Ex HR is what it could be it'll be similar to Skyrim on my agenda, and that asumes Bethesda can sort out the flaws of Oblivion for Skyrim. I don't why you're including Minecraft in all this though, it's been in open Beta for ages and doesn't really compare to an AAA full release.

Let's see. People who want Skyrim want to have an open world action RPG, with (on the PC) grand capabilities for a casual hardcoe title. There are no other open world action RPGs or other big RPGs arriving in November, or even the later half of 2011. The only thing other than Skyrim arriving for the casual hardcoe player is indeed Minecraft. So the basic fanbase should absolutely not be divided financially, since most people who would want Minecraft probably already have it.

Just ignore him, I now ignore anyone who classes someone as a 'casual' or 'hardcoe' based on what and how they play, games like all other mediums are subjective, so let people have their opinions and leave them be and quite trying to prove your OPINION is the truth because it ain't it's your opinion :P

wth is a "casual hardcoe player"

The most denied type of gamer of the big industry, and the one that most gamers tend to become after some years. A casual gamer is one who plays little and pours little money into the industry (and not one who plays only Bejeweled, necessarily, as angry gamers rant on). A hardcoe player is one who plays games to the max. So a casual hardcoe player is one who purchases one or very few games but plays them to the max. A game with lots of content and modding ability is the perfect food for those. Examples include the games from Paradox, Morrowind and Oblivion, Total War, Civilization, and even The Sims, which has developed into the biggest and best sold franchise yet - and it was the only one to realise that female players can become the perfect example for this.

.....what? I was purely talking industry speak.

The only game that may have come close for me was ME3, but now it's been delayed it's going to be a purely Skyrim winter for me this year. :D

Bwahahahah what should that be? Nothing can best TES. If BF3 is released before Skyrim I will buy it and play it. And when Skyrim arrives, forget it for quite a while.

It is, adn its just a dumb downed bad version of Fable 2, besides that it is an incredibly boss game.

The one thing that could compare to Skyrim is MODERN WARFARE 3!!!!!!!, Jokes, but seriously that game is one of the games I am really hoping is gonna be good, new devs, hopefully they breathe some life back into dead series.

Infamous 2 looks to be good, and Battlefield 3, this is the only game I know of that could possibly out class Skyrim.

This year is a rough one. I can feel my wallet get lighter every time I look at previews for the countless number of quality titles coming out. While there have been good games in the past several years (Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas, not least of all), no year has compared to this one.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is definitely near the top of my list. I'll always follow Elder Scrolls titles, good, or bad. Bethesda has yet to disappoint me, and though this game seems to be making the greatest number of changes, compared to any of the previous games, I hold faith that they'll release a high-quality game.

BUT, that's a ways off, I still have games to get and play, like...

Portal 2.
Total War: Shogun 2.
The Witcher 2.
Duke Nukem Forever.
Deus Ex: Human Revolutions.
Dungeon Siege III.
Diablo III. (if it makes it for this year)
Rage.
Alice: Madness Returns. (maybe, I'm still on the fence about this one)
Battlefield 3.

And for the first time, I'm actually anticipating an MMORPG... Star Wars: The Old Republic. But I'll make sure to give it a few months to see how it turns out. Too many MMORPGs fail... especially when they are so hyped.

So all in all, that's about $600 out of my pocket that I don't have. So I'll be buying most of these games when they go on sale or when they drop in price. So, yeah, many of them I won't have until next year. I don't believe any game can "beat" another game. Skyrim doesn't "beat" any of the games on my list, any more than the games on my list "beating" Skyrim. I have equal anticipation for all of them, and I'll likely have equal joy playing all of them.

Dark Souls could because it is a multiplayer game but still a role-playing fantasy game. But even though i love OB and demon's souls and will love dark souls and skyrim, I'd say Skyrim is going to be better.
