This year is a rough one. I can feel my wallet get lighter every time I look at previews for the countless number of quality titles coming out. While there have been good games in the past several years (Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas, not least of all), no year has compared to this one.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is definitely near the top of my list. I'll always follow Elder Scrolls titles, good, or bad. Bethesda has yet to disappoint me, and though this game seems to be making the greatest number of changes, compared to any of the previous games, I hold faith that they'll release a high-quality game.
BUT, that's a ways off, I still have games to get and play, like...
Portal 2.
Total War: Shogun 2.
The Witcher 2.
Duke Nukem Forever.
Deus Ex: Human Revolutions.
Dungeon Siege III.
Diablo III. (if it makes it for this year)
Rage.
Alice: Madness Returns. (maybe, I'm still on the fence about this one)
Battlefield 3.
And for the first time, I'm actually anticipating an MMORPG... Star Wars: The Old Republic. But I'll make sure to give it a few months to see how it turns out. Too many MMORPGs fail... especially when they are so hyped.
So all in all, that's about $600 out of my pocket that I don't have. So I'll be buying most of these games when they go on sale or when they drop in price. So, yeah, many of them I won't have until next year. I don't believe any game can "beat" another game. Skyrim doesn't "beat" any of the games on my list, any more than the games on my list "beating" Skyrim. I have equal anticipation for all of them, and I'll likely have equal joy playing all of them.
