Are there any games which could potentially beat skyrim?

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 1:14 am

besides minecraft are their any games being released this year that could potentially replace skyrim as your first pick?

First of all, "besides Minecraft"? Oh lols. Second, define "first pick". You mean the personal favourite game of the year? Yes, I think for me it will be a close call between Skyrim and Portal 2. I've already played Portal 2 and it's brilliantly fantastic, I have yet to see how Skyrim will turn out.

.....what? I was purely talking industry speak.

It isn't really industry speak, and you say casuals are people who are only playing games like bejewelled/angry birds etc and I guess you're about right but you never know I like to think there are hardcoe Angry Birds players out there, but people can be hardcoe in their own right, I made the sorry misconception you were doing the consumer wide thing of treating anyone who isn't 'hardcoe' with disdain :P

...you say casuals are people who are only playing games like bejewelled/angry birds etc...

Have you even read the post?

A casual gamer is one who plays little and pours little money into the industry (and not one who plays only Bejeweled, necessarily, as angry gamers rant on).

Uh, yeah, I pretty much explained that in the above post. Casual means you pour little money into the industry, hardcoe means you play a game to its full potential. They are not opposite ends of the spectrum, as some people think. ^_^

Why is that?

There is no game in existence that is above Skyrim for me.

I mean I'm as excited about Skyrim as the next person, but I don't understand how you can join a couple months ago and already be a "master". You must post all day every day.

Deus Ex:HR, The Witcher 2 and Risen 2 (which is speculated for this year) are my picks over Skyrim.

I couldn't care less about Skyrim, so pretty much every potential release is going to beat it for me. LA Noire, Akrham City, etc.

Skyrim is at the top of my list, alongside Deus Ex and The Witcher 2. However, it's a good thing that Skyrim is coming out in November, because right now I have no interest in playing any game whatsoever! I've lost the gaming vibe. Except for Fifa and PES, I haven't played a game since November/December '10 (Minecraft).

Nothing will beat Skyrim. Nothing.

And really nothing will. Can you name another free roam RPG game in a fantasy world where you can do what you want and be who you want? Its in a league of its own.

ME3 was probably the biggest competition but thats been pushed back to 2012, I believe. The biggest competition it will have to face for me is AC Revelations. It lauches in November too and I. MUST. PLAY. IT.

still haven't played brotherhood...*ahem*

Really? it's a massive part of gaming culture today

I don't understand why people even like Minecraft...I tried it and thought "wow, how stupid"

My opinion though...

You can create some amazing stuff from...blocks. Like Starship Enterprise or Minas Tirith but I'm guessing that would take a loong long time (time I haven't got)

Short answer, yes. :P

Tales of Graces f
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Xenoblade Chronicles
Akai Katana
Catherine
DeathSmiles IIX
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron
Rage
L.A. Noire

And, as always, the games that may or may not make it in 2011 (in North America).

Final Fantasy Type-0
Final Fantasy XIII-2
Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance
Mega Man Legends 3

Even without The Last Guardian and Mass Effect 3, there are still plenty of games that come well before Skyrim.

Is Skyward Sword coming out this year? If so, that's my answer.

For me? No. For others, yes, I'm sure of it. Although I'm not as excited for it as much as some people (but I am excited for it), Dark Souls is coming out this year and the first one was extremely well-received, so there's one. Then, there's Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, although I'm not really sure how the game is shaping up. I'm also watching Final Fantasy XIII-2 (may not come out in the U.S., this year), albeit with a cautious eye. None have me more excited than Skyrim, but they're competition, I guess.

Depends on if Diablo 3 is released this year or next. Or if Diablo 3 is released at the beginning of 2012. If Diablo 3 is released close to Skyrim, D3 > Skyrim, hands down, at least for me. I'm already disappointed with a multitude of the changes they've implemented into Skyrim, so while I'm still looking forward to it, I have a bad feeling it's going to closer to Oblivion then Daggerfall/Morrowind, and while I enjoyed Oblivion, it wasn't on the same as level as the others, so yeah, I worry Skyrims going to be a disappointment.

Depends on how buggy Skyrim is when it's released...

Deus Ex looks pretty awesome.

Mass Effect 3 could possibly give it a run for its money, although that's a very slim chance considering BioWare absolutely devastated Dragon Age 2. Although if they've learned anything at all from the mistakes they made, and applied what they have learned to ME3, they might have a shot.

First why would you assume Minecraft?

But honestly No, IMO it will be the best game ever if everythign works out :D

Oter than that: I was really looking forward to ME3 but I don't mind the extra months of polishing for sure, The Witcher 2 will also be very good, RAGE will be very good as well I'm sure. I won't buy BF3 sicne I mostly disliek FPSs but I do admit it will be a great game. I'd say Skyrim, ME3 and BF3 were the main GOTY contenders but with ME3 out of the way...

The Witcher 2 maybe. Mass Effect 3 would definately have been a worthy competitor, but that's not being released until 2012.
