Are there consequences for helping Daedra?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 1:23 pm

Basically Daedra are amoral rather than immoral. If it amuses them or furthers their plans they will do it with no concern for mortal lives or feelings. From a mortal's pov I'd say they are evil.
Exactly.

If I catch two scorpions, put them in a jar & shake it to watch them fight, am I really that "evil?"

I think most people would say no. But if you asked most scorpions on the other hand...

It's all about perspective.

Consequences? What the hell are consequences? No such thing in an Elder Scrolls game.
This, unfortunately. We don't even have a fame or infamy system anymore, so there are very few overreaching consequences or even references to your actions beyond what happens during the quest itself. Would've been nice to have kept fame and infamy but kept it regional.

Hunted by those high elfs in the super awesome armor and with the intense bigotry.

The Thalmor, I believe.

For doing jobs for the Daedra Princes? Why? Daedra are not denizens of hell, and the Thalmor are not the Spanish Inquisition.
The Daedra Princes are more like ancient europe's meddlesome gods.

The Thalmor are zealots of a religion that essentially sees Elves as peers to the lesser Aedra (Magnus, Phynaster etc.) and thus direct subjects (not worshippers) of the eight divines (Aedra - Ancestor-Spirits). The Dunmer (then Chimer) seceded from that culture and (in their search for a higher power to guide their life) turned to the Daedra (non-ancestors) that still actually have godlike-power. Then of course they betrayed the Daedra and started to worship a trio of elves that achieved godhood via technomancy.

From a Thalmor's point of view, worship of Daedra is just a weird quirk for elves, akin to worshipping your grumpy old great uncle. For lesser races it is proper behavior of course. (if they'd just finally start to worship elves as well....)

I'd find it interesting if there were consequences for colluding with them, sure, but what I'd find even more engaging would be consequences for not obeying them. Hircine asks me to kill someone, I reply, "Nah, I'm not really in the mood," and he goes, "K. I'll get someone else to do it for me." Er, what? Shouldn't he be at least a BIT peeved that a mere mortal is refusing him? I'd love to have a dialogue where he'd laugh off my lack of cooperation and say he'll give me a week to think about it. That the consequences will be grave if I continue to turn him down. And then, after a week, have him track me down and lock me down with two simple but devastating options: either I obey him or he - insert horrible act -. Like killing my follower, stripping me of all my belongings and leaving me on a frigid mountain peak, slaughtering five random innocents. Now THAT would be a price to pay for remaining righteous.

Well if you want consequences for your conversation choices do "The Break out Dawn", started st Meridia's altar, and tell Meridia off. You'll get a consequence alright lol.

Tho I do generally agree with you.

I don't know, why should the Daedra care? One mortal ant's the same as any other; for every one who doesn't there's got to be ten who are only too willing to help the capricious temperamental divine being telling them to get to the job.

Everything is foretold by the Elder Scrolls. That's why people actions don't bear consequences that are not intended or already planned :D

Really. No worse than bullfighting or foxhunting IMO.
Things like dogfighting or bearbaiting would fit in well in Skyrim. That wouldn't make Nords evil any more than our own ancestors were evil.

It'll be neat maybe , in a DLC, that we can go against all the gods, and follow our own path . But still capable of doing quests for them albeit their dialogue will change when they interact with us. It'll be interesting to see the Dragonborn flex his powers on the gods hehe

Hmmm Dragons vs Deadra

Well, are there? Surely there is a cost/reward system in place for assisting evil overlords, or are there no ramifications? Surely one does not simply do a Daedric Prince's bidding without weighing the costs, right? The question is, are there costs?

The Vigilant of Stendaar become your best friends in the whole game...

Haha, fair enough.

Maybe I'll go with a more accepted hobby for the anology... fishing is fun to a lot of people and a generally accepted form of entertainment... but I bet if you polled the worms on the hooks, they'd tell you otherwise...

Well, some of these Stendarr guards have attacked me recently. I was in the middle of the woods. My character has all of the Daedic artifacts.
I don't know why they attacked me. Maybe because of my Riften bounty.

Magnus is a lesser Aedra? Since when?
Granted, Magnus withdrew from creating the world in the last moments and retained a much larger fraction of his original power than the eight divines, but he was involved in creating the world, thus is an Aedra, and he didn't have much power to begin with, thus he's a lesser one. Most lesser Aedra ceased to exist at all (or actually turned into elves when you believe the Thalmor) This is what the ancient Aldmer believed anyway.

Despite what the Daedra may say about the soul belonging to them, the player is Dhovakin, in a way a sort of Grandson of Akatosh, an Aedra.
Who knows, maybe the grandaddy has some other plan in store for the nephew
