Are there consequences for helping Daedra?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 8:30 am

Well, are there? Surely there is a cost/reward system in place for assisting evil overlords, or are there no ramifications? Surely one does not simply do a Daedric Prince's bidding without weighing the costs, right? The question is, are there costs?

That's what I worry about too. But I worry more that there is no cost at all... and none of it matters :(

Nope, the vigilant of stendarr don't even mind you walking past them in full daedric armor.

I don't think anyone would hold it against you if you served the Daedra's will. I'd be scared out of my mind, I wouldn't even dare think of crossing them. I think crossing them should have consequences though, like Azura's Star and Vaermina.

How many topics are you going to create on (nearly) the same topic? Just keep it all in one.

I'm sorry, this post is more generalized than the other one. I wanted to address a broader inquiry in my first post this time. I wanted to ask it without any hint of a spoiler as well.

ill give skyrim this much. its consistent. it consistently doesnt matter what you do because there will be absolutely no consequences to any choice you make in this game at all. i can either kill some guy to get some daedric weapon that isnt even as good as the ones i already have or let him live in which case.......i dont get anything of importance either. as someone posted the stendarr guys dont care at all.

Well, most of the daedric quests are ...darker... than previous ones, so there are definately some that'll leave many people wondering about moral choices. But that's the way the whole game is. I do like how nothing is black and white here, there are moral choices where both are wrong, so you need to choose the lesser of two evils.

Gamewise though, not really. RP wise, depends on how muh you're affected by difficult moral dilemmas.

Consequences? What the hell are consequences? No such thing in an Elder Scrolls game.

Darker is the watch word. House of Horrors was rather polteirgeisty, but Sanguine's was relatively lighthearted all things considered.

Few consequences in most new rpgs, for that matter. Would be cool. Even if not consequences, it'd be cool that at a certain point, the daedra try to expect more than what you want to give, and you unseat them (not mantling, but going through some epic battle and taking over things). If anyone watched the series, Angel, he kind of did something similar with Wolfram and Hart.

It would be nice if the vigilant of stendurr hunted you if you wore daedric artefacts.

Yes, there are some consequences, though they aren't at the scope you're probably looking for. For one, guards will make comments about your daedric artifacts (though that's not really a 'consequence', per say).

A couple that I know of:

Spoiler
Afflicted Remnants will continue to attack you on occasion as random encounters if you complete Peryite's quest and leave some Afflicted alive (they might come after you if you kill all of them - I don't know as I left some alive on purpose). Nelacar will dislike you if you choose a particular path in Azura's quest and will not buy / sell items with you.

This would be the sort of consequence that would be a proper price to pay for adhering to Daedric Worhip. I wouldn't mind being harrassed for the choices I made. At least that reward didn't come free.

Quest rewards are too similar to normal quests. The price for worshipping daedra should be elevated.

Yeah, maybe the rewards should be greater as well (talking about looted artifacts mostly, not the crafted stuff). You get great loot, but at more cost or annoyance.

One consequence is known: you lose your soul. Fortunately you can sell it multiple times, and let the Powers fight over you. Some people say that because you are Akatosh's pet, he gets your soul no matter what. Soft words, but who really knows?

If you don't believe what I say about your soul, do the Companions quest line to see what I mean.

That's a perfect example though of a storyline I'd think could be turned on Hircine's head (like the Angel example I mentioned above). At a certain point, he can't be that much powerful than a Dovahkiin. What if there was a power struggle, and Hircine demanded fealty, and you got a chance to fight him instead.. Like a storyline involved in his hunting grounds would be great.

What?

REALLY?!

I kind of want to keep my soul for RP reasons.

I found this location after doing multiple Daedric quests, and none of them would even speak to me.

Will they talk to you if you haven't done any Daedric quests? Or maybe if you refused one? I just assumed that I'd missed out on a possible quest line when instead of engaging in conversation they kept saying how bad working with Daedra was.

No quest line, they don't do anything anyway.

I think the vigilant of stendarr are bugged right now along with a crap load of other things in the game. I think they are supposed to hunt us once we start doing Daedra quests. I know they will come at me from a mile away if I am in werewolf form, so I hope they fix them so they start hunting me for all they daedra worship I have done.

haha, I didn't even see the other posters names...

Nah, I started using "jobob" a long time ago on forums because the name I tried to sign up with always ended up being taken. However... not a lot of jobobs on the internet, apparently. If you see one posting somewhere, decent chance it's me.
