Are you happy with your lifestyle?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 12:05 am

No. I don't have the kind of lifestyle I want. I don't have animals to raise, or crops to take care of. I don't have enough disposable income to give out alms to the poor. I live in a suburb north of a confusing cesspit of a city (Austin).

And I blame Western society, the price of good land, and the indoctrination during public schooling for it.

If I was Christian, I'd go join the Amish. But since I cannot, I'll just have to mope until I can scraqe together the money to move to Idaho or Montana, get me 10-20 acres, and build a slightly porous, metaphorical wall between me and my kith and kin, and the dung heap that is the rest of the world.

No, not really. My life seems to revolve around academics.

Someone please tell me it gets better in college.

Nope , highschool all over again with more clubs most likely and lots more noise.

Not in my case. I have a ton more time, feel a lot more independent, and was one of the best decisions I have made in my life.

College is on a whole other level.

I was never social to begin with. Spent my wee years with nose buried in books in my parents house. Mildly social teen years a few friends and boyfriends. But yeah...major introvert all my life. And I'm fine with it.

Married a tech-geek introvert, and we spend lots of time with me in my pc room and him in his. Sometimes we meet in the family room and watch TV. It's awesome.

I really do hope you're right, Suffca. Every minute of my free time is practically spent doing homework.

I have a love of video games and a healthy social life. Multitasking!

This but I'm a man so I can't multitask so I don't know where that really leaves me.

Oh, I feel with you. Glad I am finished with such nonsense almost 2 years ago. We are actually trying to get rid of homework in my country, even though it may mean longer schooldays.

I feel your pain. Texas truly is the worst place on earth.

Montana, however, is one of my favorite states. Why? Because of how John Steinbeck described it.

"Montana seems to me to be what a small boy would think Texas is like from hearing Texans."

Well, it ain't perfect, but at least beeing poor in this country does not mean you can't have a good life. I am poor, my eldest brother even poorer, but still we can afford everything we need. We just like to give people more freetime, less work. At least, that's our goal.

I know many people here are for lack of a better word nerds. So my question to all of you is : are you happy with the lifestyle you live? Would you rather have not found a love for video games and lived a more social people orientated life? Or is this the life you chose for yourself instead of just falling into it ?

I fell into it. Then when I started college, I attempted to do things that would almost resemble a "normal" life (volunteer to be a honors society officer, attend night clubs, etc.) and I decided that I liked none of those things. So I did away with all of that and continued to play video games and have no social life. That is where I intend to stay.

Well. Here in Sweden playing videogames is more or less the norm. But I'll admit doing it more than the average person, probably. But then again, 90% of that time is spent with friends on Skype and when I'm not the lot of us are probably hanging out somewhere, so, I'm rather happy.

And dear god, how I sound like I try to justify myself. :P

99% of the people in Sweden play either Call of Duty, Battlefield, LoL or HoN. At least in the part where I live :P

I've heard the folks of Sk?ne and Norrland prefer Battlefield, patriots as they are.

The north holds the most glorious of the states. Idaho, Montana, and the Dakotas (if you want a job that is. Otherwise the Dakotas are kinda....flat). Texas is living off its old image, but it gets tarnishes more and more everyday thanks to things I can't talk about.

True, it got its perks. My rent is paid by the state, so I don't need to work for paying it. Only need to work to pay for food, clothing and drinks really. And since I am politically active, I often get free food. Worst thing about Norway is the winter. It's coming.

GrandDukeAdense: Yeah, my friends from Sk?ne and Norrland seems to prefer playing BF3 atm. My neighboorhood here in Oslo is 30 % swedes, mostly from G?teborg and Sk?ne. It's funny to hear them yell in their "wonderful" dialects.

That's probably it - you don't know many people here, if any at all. You can't do, we are all avatars and opinions on a screen. I've been on this forum for over a year and I don't really know anybody. I know what opinions certain people hold, what type of comment to expect from them, and it's all good. But I don't really know anyone. And neither can you, since you only joined the forum about two weeks ago.

If you're asking if enjoying video games makes you a nerd, then that's a no. We all enjoy our free time in different ways, I only got immersed in video games about 18 months ago (thanks to Fallout 3). Prior to that, I didn't care much at all. But I don't regret the time I spent here, and neither should you, if that is indeed your question. After all, it is possible to like video games and be socially active; the two aren't mutually exclusive.

This sounds like a much more preferable alternative. I spend about 3-5 hours on homework daily and barely get any sleep.

That's what many of us here also think. But we got far less homwork than the U.S genereally hands out, maybe 1-2 hours every other day, so it's a shorter road.
