Arrow to the Knee?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 4:38 am

if you go to the drunken hunter inn in Whiterum,
you will learn the full version of 'took an arrow in the knee' story by talking to the inn keeper

you will ask the inn keeper why is the inn given such an odd name,
then he will tell you the story about how his brother got drunk in a hunt and took him for a deer and shot him in the knee

ps: some say the innkeeper will hire darkbrotherhood (you'll be assign the task) to kill his brother later in the DB quest chain ....
I thought he got shot in the butt?

because every guard will say it and therefore being a guard in skyrim is for people who used to be adventurers...but then they took an arrow in the knee.

Here's some fridge logic for you: If you took an arrow in the knee and had to retire from adventuring, presumably it's because you can't walk on it properly... so... how is it any better doing guard duty - standing around or walking patrols all day... you know, stuff that involves USING said knee

It's like how some people that played the previous TES laughed the 1st time about someone stealing your sweet roll

..atleast i'm sure it was first mentioned in a TES game? like the Lusty Argonian Maid

Point is well, i forgot. Too busy shooting guards in the knee.

*sigh* Here's hoping someone mods them in.... Anyone who's ever enjoyed the tale of Tarma finding her sword REALLY WANTS one of those babies....

They are in the game. Just wander the coast around Solitude and find some Corsairs. They're sporting them. Also Blackblood Marauders sometimes carry them.

I don't even think anyone actually thinks it's funny. The whole point is that just about EVERY guard in Skyrim says that. So, apparently ever guard used to be an adventurer but then "took an arrow to the knee."

It's just like the jokes "That's what she said," and "I'll ___ your ___ " that have been around for a while too. Just overused phrases...

I think in some ways it is funny, and why out of the many phrase they repeat and repeat, this one was chosen, so to speak
1. All guards say it, not matter how far into the game you are, no matter what choices you make, all the guards have this line and so all player can hear it, unlike other where you have to be a werewolf or in the db or done certain quests.
2. Time to get all English class on it, I think the juxtaposition of the guards and what their job is (as noted above, always moving or standing on it) as well as the fact they can still bring a pretty good beat down on you (at lower levels)
3. It is easily warped into other phrase and saying making the in joke work in a lot of situations

I actually have bad knees from the combination of running literally thousands of miles for training and having a stocky build. I can do patrol and stand all day, it is only when I use stairs I get excruciating pain. I literally cringed irl when I saw the path to high hrothgar :cryvaultboy:
