It's funny for me because of the nonsenseness. "Then I took an arrow in the knee" can be fit in any prhase you say and it will still have an arrow in the knee.. I mean.. fun.

You see?

I used to be an arrow, then I took an adventurer in the knee.

I used to be a knee, then I took an arrow in the adventurer.

That kind of stuff is funny.

Of course I will not laugh of loud of this, but It's funny.

I got muted and banned from a minecraft server due to technical arrow in the knee jokes. Alright, I can make my own server.

yeah I understand its a dialog the guards say, but the guards say other stuff too and there are many other dialogs in the game why is this one in particular funny? Am I missing something?

Maybe it's only funny for people that play the game wayyyyy too much, like me. I just hear it all the time in the game. All the time. After you hear something said a certain amount of times, it just becomes annoying, but then after that it becomes something you end up saying to other people to annoy them, or just because you hear it so much, also, more commas, comma comma, comma. Mkay.

BYAAAAAAAAAGH. Ffffffffffffarrengar! The worst was Nazeem.

Do you get to the Cloud District very often? OH WHAT AM I SAYING OF COURSE YOU DON'T >:|

The worst part about killing Nazeem is that I don't get to kill Nazeem anymore.

The thing about the arrow to the knee sound bite is that so many guards say it, and with apparent sincerity.

All the other stuff the guards (and NPCs generally) say makes sense. It might be repetitive for every guard to say, "Yo, don't break the law", but it's understandable. Even them being sarcastic about stolen sweet rolls makes sense; clearly that has become an in-joke among guardsmen all over Skyrim. Cool!

But when you hear about the 3rd or 4th guard who took an arrow to the knee, it crosses over from merely obnoxious pvssyr into the realm of the weird. By the time you've heard 20 guards tell this same story, it's well into the surreal. Why always the knee? Why always an arrow? Just how many guards used to be adventurers, exactly? It no longer comes close to making sense and jars us out of our immersion.

Such blatant damage to the fourth wall is obviously good material to make fun of; thus, the joke among we the players.
