he gave his account info to someone, probably knowing that the other person was going to do that, so he got what he deserved.

To be honest, I wouldn't care if he had autism or cancer. He cheated and therefore should be treated like the rest of them. He's no special case.

Cheaters and Glitchers of any and all varieties should be lined up and shot.

why should he be treated any differently because he is autistic?
if he cheated the same as anyone other 'normal' person then he gets the same punishments.

my friend had the exact same thing happen to him.
his gamerscore was halved and he is no longer able to earn gamerscore.
ADD TO THAT the fact that he diddnt even do anything

:o That's a little harsh, then agin, I don't own an XBox or Playstationof any kind, so I don't know what the community is like

Exactly like that person.

My experience is that people who cheat at one thing, will often cheat at many other things, or engage in other offenses. Cheaters are BAD PEOPLE not people doing bad things.

Sorry but what do you mean?,

@Zakarius, I have only ever used console cheats once, in MW, when you get stuck on a fence and have to use the console to move ypurself, or reload, I agree that people who cheat in MMORPG's, and onlie games are just [censored]s, as they destroy the community for all the legit players,

So? It doesn't matter WHO was playing.

If someone uses my Steam account and hacks, should Valve un-ban the account because it wasn't me?

Microsoft should be more like Valve. At least they aren't afraid of swinging the ban-hammer around.

Albeit an extremely poor-sighted banhammer at times. :P

Yeah but at least they actually ban people. I know of a number of cheaters that just get their gamerscore or something reset and get a warning, despite already breaking the rules and getting caught before.

I think it depends on where he falls in the autism spectrum. If he's low functioning then I don't really think its fair for everything on xbl to be taken from him. I don't care too much about cheating unless it compltely ruins the game, auto-aim, bots, stuff like that I hate but boosting I honestly don't care about. Seems like people on this forum need to chill a bit when it comes to cheating.

From MS terms of service for Xbox Live accounts:

Only you may use your Service account. You must keep your accounts and passwords confidential and not authorize any third party to access or use the Service on your behalf unless we provide an approved mechanism for that. ... You’re responsible for all activity that takes place with your Service account and any associated accounts.

Therefore, he cheated. Doesn't matter that someone else used the account. The ToS states that you aren't supposed to allow others access to the account.

I love how people are defending this because the kid is autistic.. Not to mention, how many warnings are there, all the time, not to give your informaiton to ANYONE? To prevent [censored] like this. The kid got screwed over by a friend. MS is taking action against the kid for being reckless. The kid may not realize giving his friend account information would be reckless, but this is between him and his friend. Not MS and the kid. Stop crying because a kid with a disability got screwed over. If it was someone without a disability, you'd all be flaming the guy for letting his friend go on his account.

This doesn't seem too complicated. He cheated, he deserved what was coming to him. Maybe he wasn't the one who did it, but he got someone else to do it, so he's still at fault. Maybe, instead of the mother fighting this "injustice" towards her son, she should take him outside once in awhile and have him find other hobbies.

And I honestly don't see what his being autistic has to do with anything. I'm guessing it was a detail thrown in to make this thing seem much bigger and worse than it actually was. You don't see news stories that say, "Mentally Healthy Child Banned From Xbox Live".

Moral of the story: Buy a PS3.

What does that have to do with anything? If someone cheated to get a huge amount of trophies, they would be banned or deemed a cheater also.

so he cheated and hes autistic. hmmmmmmm this could get sensationalized.... oh wait, it has.

My cousin is autistic and he plays some video games. He memorizes every single bit of detail to the point where it almost seems like hes cheating but hes just very very good at them. come on microsoft, its not like gamerscore even means anything. Its just a pointless number under your tag. this kid will get them back in no time.

For real? Your on a gaming forums and you dont see it as cheating? It is a Free For All match, a standard deathmatch game, ranked, a every man for themselves game. Cooperating in a FFA game is cheating... obviously... Just to mention it, you can't join a FFA matching lobby with a party.... if that counts for anything.

Oh please. It's a free for all, it's just an unregulated deathmatch. There's nothing wrong with cooperating with a fellow player in order to increase your kills. It's just as valid of a strategy as camping with a sniper rifle, or running around with a shotgun.

Not in a Free For All match. Teamwork in not the way you play.. Theres a reason an Xbox Live Party cannot join FFA matchmaking... because there shouldnt be teamwork..

And it is cheating, cheating by increasing deaths, getting contracts done, and increasing COD points and XP the cheap way, a cheating way, that is via teamwork in a free for all game..

Which I'm sure Microsoft hears all the time. Hell when I admined a Counter Strike server I heard that all the time. They weren't cheating, their friend who they gave info to was cheating. I'm sure this is something Microsoft warns against, or explicitly prohibits in their TOS. There is no way to determine accurately who was playing on the account at the time, so if the a person was cheating on the account it makes sense to ban it. I don't blame Microsoft, the friend who did that to the kid is a dike though.

/thread

Life svcks, but MS has to enforce their rules, or else cans of worms are open. Doesn't matter who, all are equal under the TOS. The kid should be thankful he wasn't left with "Cheater" on his account forever, and was given a free month to play.

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/01/31/microsoft-labels-autistic-boy-a-cheater-on-xbox-live.aspx He may have cheated or might not have, but comon, he has autism. I'm sure this will be fixed, but it's maddening none the less.

He has lost ALL of his achievements, his gamer score has been reset, and his account will forever have "Cheater" branded under the name tag.

For some reason when I open this on google chrome my computer freezes completely.
Any ideas? :/
