B1gBadDaddy's Big Post of Fixes and Tweaks

It's in the nVidia Control Panel under "Manage 3D settings."

If you are an AMD user, though, I can't help you.

CCC 12.1 has profiling for games in the 3D settings as well but Radeon Pro if you really want to tweak a good Skyrim game profile.

As per this thread:
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1331594-skyrim-freezes/

The bug where sometimes inventory items will conflict with the game's teleport script is still present. Removing the troublesome item from your inventory will resolve it and let the teleport happen normally without the game locking up.

I posted a topic on it, but I think it would be better suited here. I tweaked my ini and am finally happy with it except my shadows at about 10 feet away look disgusting. Is there any fix to this?

Quite odd, it's never caused a problem like that for anyone else as far as I know, and certainly not myself. I've used this fix twice.

This is good tips for people wanting to run more towards Ultra, but a lot of your tips especially for the CPU are less realistic when running Mid - High settings.

Looking at the following for running a Phenom II x4 @ 2.0 GHz with Ultra Detail, 16X AF, 4X AA, 1920 X 1080, & a Geforce GTX 570 the average FPS was around 30 which is playable. Clealy as you start to lower your settings the FPS will get a lot better.

Where is this Bias setting, where can I change it?

You have to use a third-party tool plus is also increaes aliasing on the textures and objects.

Question about forcing AA and AF from my graphics card. Do I set the ini values in the SkyrimPrefs.ini to imultisample=1 or imultisample=0?

Either, Skyrim interprets them the same way.

I'm not sure that applies in all cases, particularly nvidia cards...many (myself included) can't force AA from Inspector or nvidia tray without imultisample>0. It seems the nvidia stuff needs minimal AA activated in-game to enable 'enhancement' externally (to whatever values you wish). I set my imultisample=2 then tinker in Inspector by 'enhancing' AA.

I will be updating this post tonight to include things members have suggested, as well as some things regarding the beta patch.

If anyone has any other suggestions for this thread post away!

Have you tried.....In launcher set both AA/AF to off.

Then in Inspector.....
Select "override any application settings".... this way Skyrim has absolutely no say in anything!

And for AF select "user defined"

The drop down list for AA settings is huge,,,are you selecting "0x0000005 (Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim)" for the "Antialsing - behavior Flags"?

I should post a screen of my settings i am really happy now with how smooth the game is playing now. I have changed a few more things because of reading i have done, and the new settings work great.

Ya, I tried that...the AF can be forced just fine, but the AA won't work with either "enhanced" or "override"...I've seen alot of other people with this same thing, some have posted it at nvidia forums too.

I am pretty sure its working for me....

As i raise AA level my FPS tanks....lol

@ B1g Bad

I see a lot of people say the same thing.....I just verified files with steam , generated new INI files, and then copied my Edited INI files back. Might be a good thing to note that one should Edit the new ini. and not a copy/ paste of their other INI . I have made this mistake myself. Until i noticed differences in the INI files. Now i just open the new and old in Notepad ++ and change each setting to match my old ini.

I have Realtek HD Audio 2.67 Driver, and it doesn't fix the audio problem

I also tried to lower the sound quality down to 16-bit, 44100 kHz, no dice

Haven't tried the "Full Range" stuff though, will try once I have time

Also, can someone confirm whether the "Day/Time Sync" issue fix is retroactive or not?

There is a really good defragmentation tool available. It is called http://www.mydefrag.com/ and it can defrag a drive better than Windows can. It sorts files into zones, leaves small gaps between zones and sorts files and directories. It ensures that the files of an application stay close together and thereby reduces the seek times for HDDs, it moves known space hogs like videos and ISOs to the end, it separates system files from user files, and it plans ahead for future defrags by creating small, controlled gaps between zones. And it is free with no fees, time limits or ads.

Doing a full disk optimization with it will take very long and should be done only after (de-)installation of larger software products, like games. Start it when you go to bed, to school or to work. It takes several hours.

EDIT: Herp a Derp no clue what I was talking about. CCC is all based on how the AA is set in the catalyst(ignore, override, or ehance). The CCC seems to take control over the launcher like usual.....barring some other GPU app like Radeon Pro etc. as not all AMD users even use CCC.
