so basically, we're all [censored] past 70 hours?

Level 35 - 80 hours into the game - seen only 2 cities. Save file about 8mb in size.
Had one CTD a while back but that was after a lot of experimenting with ini files.
Started over with clean ini files and only tweaked the more important stuff like
shadows etc. Rock solid stable ever since. I use hard saves and quick saves.
I do delete my quick save every 3-5 quicksaves not for it to get overwritten too
much. I use the original TESV.exe patched with the old patch tool. I also use
quite a few re-texturing mods, and a few others

Only bug was a Dragon that froze in place during a fight, not dead, not killable
by any means. I had to go back to a previous save and do it all over again.

No. No, not at all. Hey, I made to somewhere around 100. And can still to go places I've already been. It's only the new areas that won't load. You'll be fine if you just make a separate character for each quest line and don't wander off exploring lots of unrelated areas.
Why would I want to do that? That goes against the whole point of an Elder Scrolls game.

My save is at 7MB right now. This has me worried. Thankfully I obsessively save new files now and then.

I have none of these issues, and I almost only use quick and autosaves. I don't have vsync enabled either.. which someone mentioned would 'screw up my game' when turned off. Only bug I've encountered so far was the guy behind the locked door in a mainquest. Which was solved by exiting and re-entering the area.

My saves folder is 1.3Gb total. My guess is that your issues comes from your configurations. I have not edited any .ini files. Apart from adding a zoomable map.

Same with my gf who plays on my old laptop. No bugs encountered at all. And she's changed everything to look like my little pony.. or there about.

72 Hours played. I just had CTD 3 times in 15 minutes. I love this game, but I'm just going to stop playing til the patch comes out. Not like I can really play it anymore anyway.

Nope. I just know what I am doing, and run a clean system.

I am definitely having the same problems and it seems to have something to do with the auto and quick saves, seeing as I can't reload them half the time after a crash. It's gotten to the point where any transition to a new cell either locks the game in a loading screen, crashes to the desktop during the loading screen, or cruelly teases me by successfully loading only abruptly crash about 30 to 60 seconds later. I really hope the patch fixes this. Unlike a previous poster, I really don't know much about the proper management of memory and disc storage -- but honestly, I shouldn't have to to play a game.

It's a good thing I also have Saints Row 3. I think I'll stick to that. It has a few bugs, but has yet to crash on me.

Yeah. A lot of problems are from the auto/quicksave feature, which from what I understand overwrites the same file over and over, which can cause problems. Hard saving to a new file (using ESC) will avoid this, but you'll end up with an enormous save game folder.
If you take the time to actually look at your Save folder you'd notice that Skyrim creates a new auto-save and quick save every time, because it renames previous saves, so quicksave.ess will be renamed to quicksave.ess.bak (similar to how Wrye Bash makes savegame backups) which also makes it really easy to restore a previous save! If anyone's really concerned about their save games constantly being overwritten then go into the Save or Load menu and simply delete any autosaves and the quicksave on a regular basis. Simply put, Skyrim DOES NOT overwrite the same save file over and over! :whistling:

I love how frequently I keep see the implication that if the game isn't running smoothly there must be something wrong with the system. It certainly couldn't be the game.

Obviously I can't speak for everyone's particular situation but I have a new install of Win7 on a new HDD done about a week before the Skyrim launch. I haven't even had time to download questionable programs or delete a bunch of things that may be causing registry bloat. I've defragged the HDD a couple times now, whether it needed it or not, verified the integrity of the files on Steam and defragged there as well. I ran the Furtest and Mersenne test and everything checked out. There are no extraneous process running in the background when I launch the game and I verify that with Process Explorer. I haven't made any tweaks or changes to the ini or renderinfo files, I've tried both the 4Gb launcher and the EBNSeries, together and each one separately. Other than that, I've not used any mods. The only thing I've used the console in-game for is to change the FOV and toggle the HUD a few times for screen shots. Drivers are up to date, sound is set to 16 bit 44100 Hz, I've cleaned out all the little bits of dust from computer when I put the HDD, the air-flow is good, temps are well within acceptable ranges and my power supply is working just fine and perfectly adequate for the components I have.

So if there's anything I've overlooked or something else that could possibly be wrong with my computer, I'd love to hear it because the game that was extremely stable for me the first 60 hours or so has become increasingly hard to keep playing.

No issue at all. Autosave and quicksave are the only things I use (I made manual saves after so many hours but never used 'em), and I just made it past 105 hours.

It's what I'd heard, but it sounds like you know more about it than I do. I just know that using auto and quicksaves seems to have caused problems in Morrowind, Oblivion, FO3, and FO:NV; in each case once I disabled 'em I got fewer crashes.

That's a lie especially considering horses climbing up mountains is universal. So really, anyone claiming 0 bugs simply doesn't know what a bug is.

To whoever asked about time played versus save game file size....

I'm at 82 hours, my saves started at about 3.1 MB and are now 15.1 MB. And while I have had some CTD's, I'm definitely not having all the problems that others are.

Well this is odd, maybe something here can help some one. I've got over 100 hrs, level 35, been over half the map and my latest save is 7.8mb (I have a large inventory and thousands of individual stored items in containers in my house, about 20 or so completed quests and about a dozen active at any one time). I've only had two CTDs (no error report) and 1 apphang and that was over a week ago. I haven't been online Steam since I installed the game so haven't had to deal with the DRM patch and am running LAA with enlarged mem tweaks at 45 - 60 fps (I left Vsink on) on ultra with reduced shadows full AA and full anti-stropic filtering.

I use quick save but not quick load because I noticed in Fraps that quick loading dropped my fps by half and turned it red whereas manually loading my quick save worked fine. I only use the three timed autosaves and limit my total save slots to 20 by overwritng save 1 each time I manually save (oddly enough that doesn't overwrite my first save but the next one up and continues the sequential numbering.) There are a total of 24 saves in my save folder ( includes the 4 automatically created backups for Quick and the three Autos.)

I only ever pick up things I want and if I get overburdened only drop them in a container, I never just drop them on the ground.

I don't use horses or carriages, I do use fast travel occasionally. I've only been using companions when the quests require it.

I have over 30 hi-rez texture mods loaded but no esp/esms ( I'm waiting on Wrye and TESVEdit, not sure yet about the new NMM so I haven't installed it yet.)

I close out the game every couple of hours and run a memory de-frag (leakage doesn't seem too bad, usually only 60-80mbs), optimize my SSDs every couple and days and just log off my computer (rather than shutting it down) every night so TRIM can do it's thing. ( Actually that's after I run registry cleaner and system clutter remover and re-start.)

I use a shortcut to the launcher to start the game and even though I play offline I'm still racking up achievements for some reason, I guess they'll transfer to Steam the next time I log on to it, not that I even care, but it will be a long time before I turn control of my computer back to Steam!

Here's my Dxdiag in case that can help anyone -

I am at 72 hours or so now. I've had a few CTD issues while playing Skyrim, but they certainly do not appear to have been play time related in any way, shape or form - most appear to have been caused by Auto-save.
In fact I found the main cause of issues I had with Skyrim was adding the following to the [Papyrus] section of my skyrim.ini

iMinMemoryPageSize=100000iMaxMemoryPageSize=5000000
After removing those lines from the INI, the game started working again as it should for me.

If you are having issues with Skyrim and have made INI modifications, I would recommend you try going back to Stock INI's to see if that makes any difference (easiest way to do this is simply to delete them from Documents/My Games/Skyrim).

I felt I should update. I took a peek at the 4GB file on the Nexus and saw it had been updated. It didn't work for me before, but I decided to get the new version and try it. So far, just one hang on a transition screen and after rebooting the game, I was able to take that exit without a problem, instead of being locked out of taking it forever as usually happens.

I don't constantly overwrite the same save, but FWIW--I'm about 20 hours in, with a stockpile of about 20 saves. They're all roughly the same size, between 3 and 4MB, but they are gradually getting larger as time in the game goes on. My very first save is 3,134KB; last save is 4,413KB.

I'm another holdover from the MW days and only trust manual saves, so I don't use autosaves (the game does autosave, but I never load from them unless I can't help it), and I don't even know what the quicksave key is. Certainly never used it or done a quickload.

I am experiencing increasing instability in the form of "silent" CTDs--where the game just up and quits without an error message. Though at least in my case, I'm well and thoroughly convinced it's got to do with the patch Bethesda kicked out the door last Monday. My game was fine before that, now it is not. I haven't done anything to my system in the meantime--no driver updates; I don't think there's even been any Windows updates. No new programs installed. Only thing new is that patch.

I wasn't using LAA or anything, either. <_< The game is still "playable," but I have to be ready for it to just up and decide to quit without warning. It's even done it before the main menu (while at the Bethesda logo) once.

I have no problems with quicksaves or autosaves, even ones where the game crashes immediately afterwards. I keep hard saves just in case, but the random crashes have been present for me regardless of play time.

I've been everywhere except 10-15 locations, and done all the content except the quests that are broken on this patch level/my game. My save file is 22MB with 170hours played (gogo Sabbatical!).

I CTD every 2-3 hours but have had no problems loading any files, or anything out of the unusual. Using baseline game with no 3rd party patches or mods on High Settings.

I'm at 140 hours and have used autosave a few times and frequently use quicksave. I have over 40 hard saves and my most recent is only at 9.4 MB. I haven't had any problems related to this issue.

I'm a little surprised that the save game files are small, even after 100 hours of playing <15MB

No. No, not at all. Hey, I made to somewhere around 100. And can still to go places I've already been. It's only the new areas that won't load. You'll be fine if you just make a separate character for each quest line and don't wander off exploring lots of unrelated areas.

Is it only me that think this is not okey?

Sometimes random things lose their texture and turn completely white (armor pieces, usually), and I am getting crashes more often than before. So either it's the amount of hours I played (40 so far, 11 MB save file) or the new exe.

I had alot of crashes and the same issue with textures except they turned a blue color. After a while I got a CTD with in 30 seconds everytime I loaded my last few save games.
Then I tryed walking around in an area I had been to before. The wind ended up blowing me and my horse all over untill I ended up riding it in the sky. Then the wind stoped and I fell to my death.

Game runs more sluggishly since my save ran over about 15 megs at 120 hours, but had only 1 random CTD so far (at 70 something) and 5 game related CTDs because I was actively reproducing that crash (coding issues). But other than that, no.

And since getting to Riverwood I've only used quick/auto (prior to that only hard saves)
