Bethesda is due for its Sgt Pepper's moment

Two Worlds was not the Sgt Peppers of its day.

Bethesda has learned to be massively successful, and will one day realize (if there's anyone 'there' ) they can try....something more.

I apologize for not being able to explain 'why', but believe Bethesda is closest to creativity. They have the 'feel'. I think of the Beatles when I think of them. The Beatles were massively successfull and changed- grew, tried something new. The went into the studio and made music. Bethesda never left the studio- they aren't in concert. (we are their concert) But they have potential. I'm not like many of you- I didn't grow up with games, (other than the ones people were playing on each other) and am not versed in the history of the genre. What I know is because of my interests in similar fields; literature, SF, comics, music. These games are natural for me- I looked into them and why not?

I asked a local farmer once about these games...nonchalantly, passing time until the check out line at the gas station finished.
"I don't have time for games, I have work to do."

Games aren't in his home, but they're in most everyone elses, and I mean it when I say you grew up with them and will want more. How many zombies can you kill? I'm tired of 'advlt' video games that are really children's games with the addition of profantiy in place of great writing, (for realism) and sixual content for young men in their teens and twenties. ( I like women in their underwear too, but an entire world of women in their underwear is mocking the buyer and the game art.) I'm also more than weary of PC forms but that's another topic and wont' neccesarily damage The Great American Game. That's it, really; some of you did not get into literature, but gamed. The Great American Novel is done, but the Great American Game is not.

And I'm not so patriotic that I wouldn't love the Great Austrailian Game, or the Great Kurdistan Game. Just please, give me a great game!

I don't know Todd Howard can do this- but his company is closest to it.

If there's another game I should be playing please let me know.

It's so obivious, so over due. There isn't any art form like Games. Combine literature, plays, opera, comics, movies, and instead of a passive viewer we have participation.

That is begging for genius.

I think that the main difference between games and art is this: in the end, games are made to sell copies and make money. Art is made purely for the sake of creating it. So, by my definition, games can never be art. I'm not saying there aren't creative people working in the gaming industry. But, there are probably creative people working at a greeting card company somewhere too. It doesn't make the card I buy my wife for Valentine's Day an artistic acheivement.

It isn't so much that games are solely about making money, as the fact that you can't create a game at the moment without a significant investment, so it's a lot harder to justify creating it for its own sake. It's like building a car, you can't do it without a huge investment and a lot of technical know how, so cars just aren't really considered a typical artist's medium (apart from that crazy guy up the street that glues a thousand troll dolls to his VW bus.) Still, some cars can probably be considered works of art, and I'd say some games are starting to come close.
