Bethesda kills off a series

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 3:25 pm

The lack of updates proves Bethesda is spread too thin.

I will agree they have spread themselves thin and I do not see how. There was 10 to 20 people who made Morrowind and yet there was almost 100+ people who made this game. The math to that equation makes no sense. People constantly say they had 5 or 6 years to make this which is DEAD WRONG. Some do not realize they played around and made Fallout 3 in between. All Zenimax wants is profit anymore and doesn't care about quality. So Todd and the Team have to play along with that philosophy and make the games on a deadline now. As for updates is where I do not agree. There have been 3 so far and another coming up this month. Morrowind took almost a year or so to finish fixes and updates along with the expansions, same goes for Oblivion I am sure.

The series is doing fine, it's theirs and they do whatever they want with it. You don't like it, another 50,000 don't like it, while a few healthy millions do like it. The series is up and running.

Killed off the series? Of course, because I'm sure that the next TES game Bethesda release will be a complete flop and no one will buy it because the apparent abomination that is Skyrim? Grow up!

I've never been a poncy mage, and always the warrior, so it makes little difference for me, but I can understand your pain if things you like are gone. Perhaps Beth will improve it with patches! :)

Not likely. Things like spellmaking for example were removed through choice, not because they didn't have time to put it into the vanilla version. Ther main reason given was to balance the game

Patches will be for bug fixes and optimization

That said, these things could be added through mods i.e 1st person horse riding, spell making, flying etc

WIth the game selling nearly 10 million copies world wide, the OP is simply employing hyperbole to voice his complaint that he doesn't like game. The series has never been stronger.

And has never been so bad/weak in quality and realisation, this from a RPG, Tale and gameplay standpoints.
Althought Oblivion was worse for me overall, Oblivion has a good system badly implemented, mainly by laziness. Skyrim has a bad system badly implemented.

The series has never been stronger.

That's dependent on what you mean by stronger.

From a sales point of view, yes. From most people's points of view, yes. But for a number of people (including myself), it has become watered down and weaker.

"Lack of updates shows Bethesda is spread too thin"

...

You do realise that for Oblivion's first patch we waited over 2 months, right?
Patching has been very fast for this game, given its only just gotten to that point and we've had 3 with a fourth nearly here

Though, admittedly Ob's patch changelogs were larger and the patches didn't introduce game breaking bugs (at least not ones everyone got)

It s sad times when decisions are taken by the lowest common denominator, but that is how Bethesda choosed to work, and apparently it works for them.
I don t say i won t buy their product again, but surely only when they hit the bargain bin, cause then :
The sistem will be optimised,
Price value will be compatible with the value i see in the product.
I will have to Mod it one big times and not have to check every f[censored]ing day if someone was already able to correct a flaw imputed by the company, if someone corrected company left over etc, etc, etc,
Bethesda is SO slow with the kit that a NPC modifyer has already been launched by modders. Now tell me, if this company has made the game, on what they did it? So they have to work more than modder to put the KIT to public.
IMHO Bethesda has a team of programers that are only able to work on a very old (Morrowind) engine, that, by the way is dead gone cause the market doesn t accept such crap anymore. IF painstakingly obvious that many of Morrowind flaws are still there.
New engine my ***, Dinamyc Snow the same... etc etc etc.

While I like the fact that somebody besides me will admit that MW was flawed, Mordobb, I can't get on board with almost anything else you just said.

For example- yes, they modified a game engine, making a game engine that wasn't used before. "New" doesn't mean "made from nothingness", although many people here seem to feel it does. Also, you feel that when they said "dynamic snow" they meant 'dynamic snow accumulation'. The snow is dynamic- the dynamic is the frequency of the snowfall and how hard it snows, based on several factors. The dynamic just isn't what you decided it would be like. the word 'dynamic' isn used by developers and in every situation I can recall, many fans of the game have completely made up their maind about what it means well before the game comes out. The disappointment in that raegard does not come from the game, but from the mis-placed expactations of the player

Like if most of the customers didn't bought it due to the hype right? all of them knew what Skyrim could deliver before hand amiright?

I bought it because of the hype, and I enjoy it, but this game got some serious issues.

It would seem to be an astounding feat if Bethesda could pull off what you're suggesting, the mass-dupe. They should ditch games and start a political party or a international crime syndicate with that type of power to deceive

The game has issues there's no ignoring that fact. My biggest one is the guild quest lines are short and unrewarding. That said there is still much more content here than you get in 99% of other games.

Wait for dlc, maybe that will renew yor faith

Even tho I love the game as is, this is also a likely situation. Both official expansions for Morrowind were pretty good. Oblivion's Shivering Isles was awesome, even Oblivion haters admited it (I unfortunately haven't played it, but I definitely plan to). So I do expect a good expansion from bethesda.

Shivering Isles was fantastic.... buy it now, for the love of god buy it now. Easily 30 hours extra content for most players, I got about 50 and I still haven't done all the quests :hehe:

Aside from a handful of technical issues, the game is exactly as advertised. I love it and I knew I would love it based on what I had seen. What's your point?

Hi, after playing for 50 hrs, I have to say, Bethesda you have lost your touch. I usually average 100 + hrs from an elder scroll game, but this game is nothing like the previous versions. I play as a mage and the entire mage thing is dead. No creating spells, no fly, no 1st person for horse riding. The list goes on and on but everyone already knows the list. The game feels rushed. The lack of updates proves Bethesda is spread too thin. The love is gone from the series. Consequently, this is the last time I buy one of your games. Bethesda you've lost a long time fan.

I felt like I was playing Dark Messiah and that is not a good thing.

Goodbye.
Bethesda aren't the only ones making quality games , and there's some good ones coming out in the near future. Skyrim is alot of fun i don't like the way they dummed down the attribute and level system but other than that it's the best TES game i've played.
